Advanced methodological frameworks for enhancing clinical trials with RWE and virtual evidence
REDDIE (Real-World Evidence for Decisions in Diabetes) is an EU-funded project that aims to enhance randomised controlled trials using real-world data from diabetes databases. Throughout four years (January 2023 - December 2026), 16 partners will work together to explore how RWD can complement RCTs to improve the efficacy, safety, and value for money of technologies to prevent and treat diabetes.
Enrico Longato from the University of Padua (UNIPD) shares how they are improving methodologies for retrospective observational studies and real-world data simulations in healthcare. Their work focuses on automating key techniques like propensity score matching to scale up studies without manual intervention. This means more accurate, faster results across a wide range of medications and outcomes.
The overall aim of REDDIE is to support the use of RWD in diabetes and health-related research for the benefit of people living with diabetes, resulting in safer, more efficient, and cost-effective interventions.
