No, I spent 3 days adjusting timing, to dial it in without a GM techII, and once I got the timing set to run cold start with minimal exhaust fume at startup, I manually reset the TDC. It takes about 8-10 revolutions to crank, then about 45 seconds to run cold start, and then evens out nicely. Does not always smoke at startup, but is the only time it puffs at all, unless I'm blowing coal at WOT. Make sure that your batteries are FRESH AND STRONG no less than 800cca, matching set, and that your positive battery cable to your starter is FRESH AND BIG CABLE. Make sure to scratch all the paint and oxidation off of ground cable ends, and ground points. Put batteries on a charger when not in operation. Freezing months ALWAYS PLUG UP YOUR BLOCK WARMER. If your glow plugs are not new, replace them before winter. Can not stress these parts enough 🙏🛠🎵🎶 do not buy cheap parts. These are big machines, built for endurance, and quality parts are worth the run time

Glow plugs are working perfectly. I received the truck improperly timed, cracked fuel line under IP, with a bad pmd, two dead honda batteries, and one exploded glow plug. I replaced the glows with ACDelco, and fixed everything else. I put in 2 Oreillys 800cca AGM batteries, a new starter cable, cleaned all grounds... Timed the IP static to approx 3.5°, sent lift pump to a switch, primed the fuel through the filter housing, then through t-bar, then cracked all 8 high pressure lines on the injectors. Once fuel primed in all 8 cylinders, it fired all the way through. I spent the next 3 days adjusting timing by hand. No techII. Once in time, with good cold starts, I manually reset the TDC. 🙏🛠🎵🎶

Thank You, that's what it took to get the fuel through the mech IP. Pumping 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. But really, we found out that after the IP was rebuilt, and fuel system cleared, with 2 new filters, there was another clog that came from the tank. He was running a bunch of bio fuel, without starting or cooling down on strait diesel. The system is down again, and I still suggest not to run biodiesel and diesel in the same system. The truck needs REAL Diesel to start. And it needs REAL Diesel in the injectors before its shut off. 🙏🛠🎵🎶

This bus had run bio diesel, without separating diesel from bio... I revived it, and this was 2 years of sitting, and 2 days of pistons pushing up oil with no fire, burning off. 🥰🙏🛠🎵🎶⚕️

Bio diesel was run through the main fuel system, instead of separated, started and shut down on pure diesel. New IP, burning off 2 years of sitting, and 2 days of pistons pushing oil up. 🙏🛠🎵🎶

The synchro to 5th gear exists in the outer left side <drivers side> housing on the xmsn. You must pull the cover, and replace the fork and synchronizers. It happens because of shotty bushings in the shifter ends on the xmsn side. Replace those bushings with ABEC skateboard bearings as soon as you get one of these cars. Or, Any car with these types of linkage 🙏🛠🎵🎶

I still drive it like that doing 80 mph every day to work lol and I just hold it only drive 20 minutes away

⁠@@zusclhzmy celica pops out of third. The bushings were re-installed incorrectly by the last owner. The washers were underneath the cables and the cotter pins were gone. The rubber bushings were also in bad condition very brittle. I’m going with mwr brass bushings. Hope that fixes my popping out of third gear issue and slight grinding, not all the time. I also changed the trans oil myself. Hopefully the car wasn’t driven long like that so the synchros could be somewhat in tact.

Check your master/slave cylinder seal. If it is not leaking, have the slave cylinder bleed, with new oil added in 🙏🛠🎶🎵

The failed bushing is the cause. Replace with skateboard bearing. Just know that the damage is done, and will need nursing until 5th fork and synchros are replaced 🙏🛠🎶🎵
