Testing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024!
I’m a veteran flight simmer that tested my first sim in the 80’s as a kid, but I’m also a real world pilot and today I tried to fly a route I have flown many times in real life, ENKB to ENML in Norway.
The first impression is how mind blowing accurate the the landscape is, from the height of the topography to the shorelines, bridges and overall feeling of the terrain. And this is stock, without any add on scenery which makes it that much more impressive!
This is the biggest asset of the sim for me personally, and as a real pilot this is a nice tool for familiarization with foreign airports and areas that I’m planning to fly to.
Regarding the handling and flight characteristics compared to MSFS 2020 and other sims I have tried during the years, I just have to say it’s superb! Much better ground handling, rudder authority during takeoff, more realistic turn radius and the feeling of weight during flight. A sim can never replace reality but this is the closest I have felt to fly a real plane so far.
When it comes to performance I’m also impressed.
I know a lot of people have reported problems with the sim and understand the frustration, but my experience so far is good. 100-150 fps with settings high to ultra on most parameters and silky smooth frame rates.
My conclusion is that this is the future of flight simulation and I have to say that the future looks bright! Thanks to Asobo Studios for taking on the monumental task to recreate the world 1:1 with this type of fidelity and to let us fly in this artificial world!

Spectacular approach in Norway!

In this video we make an approach to runway 24 at Hovden Airport (ENOV) Norway. This particular approach is a special one as you fly between mountains along the fjords. You will hug the mountain wall before you line up to the runway that is “hidden” behind an other mountain. The scenery is amazing but this can be a challenging approach if you have not flown here before or when the weather is bad.

Very nice... Apprentice. That was my first plane as well. They fly wonderfully.
wow ur so good
Fin landing
Hei.
you flew a jabiru over water. You are mad
You are just jealous that you do not own a Jabiru............😁
@@steinrich56 Not quite, I own a 2009 Arrow III. I’m grateful to not own a jabiru
I own a warrior also but we have more problems with that plane than the Jabiru. 😂 PS. I dont fly over big areas with open water in the Jabiru and there is gliding distance to land at all times. 😊
Does a Jabiru know when it flies over water? Wow... :-)
@@sterkoder Yes, with synthetic vision. 😊
Very nice ... have same type here in the UK..
Nice little airplane and very low maintenance cost compared to the PA28 we also fly. Enjoy your Jabiru. 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
❤
Fin tur dette. 😊
Flott
Bare hyggelig. 😊
Flott
Stunning scenery, and weather! We have the same plane - a UL-450 - but I've not been able to fly for a long time because here, in the east of England, it has been raining on-and-off for weeks and the grass runway is like a lake! Looking forward to some dry weather and getting back in the air 🙂
It’s been a long and hard winter in Norway with minimal flying also, but things are getting better now that the winter is loosening it’s grip. Happy flying when the grass runway is dry again! 😊
@@Windwardairways Thank you. Whereabouts in Norway are you? Two years ago we had a fantastic few days in Tromsø and Skjervøy. Beautiful country.
@@NotSoBigDaveC We are located in a town called Kristiansund in the middle of the country by the coast. The airport is called Kvernberget airport and ENKB is the ICAO code. Tromsø is farther north, but it’s also a beautiful place to fly. Other than the 450UL we have a PA28 and England would be a fun country to visit sometime.
Er så moro! Nydelig tur!
Love that intro and outro walking the airplane. Hope to visit on the next "Open Day" - the last one was HUGE with a vast number of aircraft. I hope your windshield was not as foggy IRL as it showed in the video. And great to include that ATC comm sound. Thanks!
No, it’s not so foggy as it looks but the fog also clears as soon the airplane is airborne. We are planning to repeat last year’s success and cross our fingers for nice weather and hope that we get a lot of visitors this year also. ✈️
Amazing video! It's a flying school owned aircraft? Can anyone rent it for such a flight?
Hi. No, this plane is privately owned by me, but we have a PA28 which we rent out to pilots who have a LAPL or PPL (a check out with instructor is required before renting).
@@Windwardairways Oh, well thanks for the answer. Tussen takk :)
'Promo sm' 🤔
out of 10 how much would you give the sim Archer for realism?
Hi. It’s difficult to comment on the flight characteristics because I don’t know if it’s limitations in MSFS or in the airplane model, but I can write down what’s positive and what’s negative. Positive: - All instruments and equipment work good and are close to real life. - Textures and layout of the cockpit is true to the real airplane. - Feels ok when in the air (but a simulator can’t replicate a real flight so I don’t blame Just Flight for this). Negative: - The rudder is to responsive both on ground and in air. In real life it’s more sluggish. - The turn radius on ground is way to good and the real plane doesn’t have this sharp turn capability. - When the altimeter reads 1000ft the perspective to the ground in real life is more like 500ft (maybe this is a MSFS limitation?). - It’s easier to trim the real plane and hold the assigned height. Conclusion: I think this is a good product and I use it for instrument training/procedures and getting familiar with new airports I want to visit in real life. Later I will try to make a direct comparison between real life and simulation.
@@Windwardairways wow thanks for this very comprehensive answer, was going to ask specifically about the trim, I find it so tricky in the Sims.
@@fulanitoflyerNo problem and happy to help. In the simulator you can bust airspace by 200-300ft in the blink of an eye and this is not realistic. It would be “catastrophic” if this happened in real life in a controlled airspace. So I think the suspicion you have is correct.
great video just waiting for the market place to post the latest update for the Arrow lately it tried to kill me with the AP.
Thanks! Ok, I never use the autopilot since I don’t have it in the real plane either (had to remove it because of the same reason, it was dangerous 😂). Hope Just Flight fix it soon. 😊
@@Windwardairways another real pilot cool cool

Very nice, Merry Christmas! 🙂
Hello from Washington State in the US. I have one of 4 Calypsos registered in the US (almost the same plane as the UL-450). I'm enjoying your videos. Today was my longest day of flying so far. This time of year it can get a little smoky here, but it's also beautiful.
Thanks for the reply and happy flying. The Jabiru is a fun plane to fly and affordable compared to other planes. 😊
