    How about we start by teaching "The 4 Rules of Gun Safety" to every child in schools... that would save many more lives than making it take longer to get your defensive gun loaded and ready in an emergency. In a country with more guns than people every child should know those 4 rules whether they ever plan to touch a gun or not. At some point it may save theirs or someone else's life.

      The last major school shooter was taught gun safety by his parents, who then bought him a gun. School shooters: 1 You: 0 Play Again? Insert Coin Just giving you shit, you're not wrong, and they don't have to actually fire a weapon to learn everything there is to know about gun safety. Obviously a child could bring a live round from home, so we can't have operable weapons even for education purposes; at least not in a public setting.

      @@RealCaptainJaws Teaching gun safety is not going to stop people that are suicidal from killing themselves and others. But it definitely will make a difference in "accidental shootings", and negligent discharges. I don't care how "locked up" your guns are in a home. If a teenager wants in there they will find a way to get the key from the parents... Safe storage only works for small children. Once they reach a certain age all bets are off. If they want access to the gun safe, they WILL find a way.

    Fun fact: firearms don't increase your risk of suicide very much if you're not suicidal in the first place. Context is a bi*** ain't it? Teach your kids how to be safe and responsible, and use your brain to make sure your family is protected and nurtured. What that means for each family at a given time is going to be different. Yep. I had kids, and now it's in a safe. At my feet, under my desk, with the key near my hand at all times. Will it take me longer to access it? Sure, but I also don't have any personal enemies so the actual odds of being the victim of a home invasion is insanely low. Now, I understand what they're trying to say about storing ammo separately, but if my four-year-old can actually chamber a round then I'm apparently raising a supervillain anyway. I keep it loaded, but unchambered, and I'm always present. There is only one key, and I have it. That's my middle ground.

    Touch grass, gun safety? Yes, keep them away from high risk people, locked, and unloaded, away from ammo? Absolutely not and that’s ridiculous 😂 hold up dude trying to rob and possibly harm my family I gotta unlock my safe, open up the dresser to get my ammo, load up the mag and chamber one and then I’ll be ready 😂😂 the best way to safely have a gun in the house is to ensure that everyone in the house can safely be around and operate a gun.

    • @VidiVee
      @VidiVee 7 місяців тому

      That by definition, is not something you can ensure. Even trained therapists miss suicidal ideation in family members more often than not, and the average gun owner is substantially less qualified to measure mental wellness than they are. The purpose of keeping ammunition seperate is to give a person time to reconsider during a momentary impulse, and to stick to swiss cheese safety principles (Google it) should a mistake happen with storage (which being owned by humans, is when rather than if). You are several times more likely to have a family member shot with your own gun, than to be a victim of a violent burglery.

    • @64gaelan
      @64gaelan 7 місяців тому

      @VidiVee I just looked it up on the fbi website, firearms are used in home defense and defensive situations far more often than our average yearly suicide numbers. Try again. Last year 49k people committed suicide with or without a firearm. Handguns alone were used to deter 875k cases of home invasion.

    • @VidiVee
      @VidiVee 7 місяців тому

      @@64gaelan That would have been a great point - if I had made that argument. But I didn't, so it isn't. My argument was and still remains that your family is more likely to be shot by your gun than killed by an intruder - Not that you are more likely to shoot yourself than be burgled.

    • @64gaelan
      @64gaelan 7 місяців тому

      @@VidiVeeaccidental firearm deaths are in the low 500s on average in the us. Accidental injury is harder to find but several sources seem to agree that 627 people were injured by accidental discharge of a firearm in 2022. The fbi and cdc agree that firearms only account for 428 justified homicides in 2022. That said according to the cdc firearms are used against home invaders non lethally around 2% of the time, or roughly 14k thousand people in 2022. And according to polling by the fbi, firearms were used to deter more home invasions than home invasions that took place in 2022. I have serious doubts myself about the fbi statistics, so I looked into a variety of other statistics from other sources, and since no one can seem to agree it would seem that fire arms are used to deter crime between 69k times a year and 4 million times a year in the United States. Whatever the real number, it's obviously more than 28,177 which is the total number of gun suicides and accidental inury and fatality added together.

    • @64gaelan
      @64gaelan 7 місяців тому

      @@VidiVeeunfortunately I lack knowledge on where to get official statistics for home invasion and burglary specific deaths other than the department of Justice, who published a report on burglary victimization between 2003 and 2007. In 4 years 266k were violently victimized by people entering their home without permission that's more an 66k people a year.

    Locked up, absolutely. And I don't think anyone is arguing against that. Unloaded and away from ammo? Go to get. There should be one in the chamber and a full magazine at all times. And the only people you should give the code for that safe to are the people you know can be trusted with the things inside of it. Bonus Points: You can tell the people that wrote this and the actor in it have absolutely no clue how to properly handle a firearm because the dude racks the slide from the side, rides the thing all the way forward, has his finger on or hovering directly over the trigger the entire time he's doing it, they're it from one hand to the other like a fucking softball, and when he picks the gun up off the ground to "clear" it, he pulls the mag part way out, shoves it right the fuck back in there, and reracks the God damned slide. All he did was confirm that his mag was loaded and chamber a brand new fucking round, making that gun 100% just as dangerous as when his daughter pulled the trigger on it the first time. They're showing you the biggest idiot gun owner in existence as a fucking scare tactic, if you have ANY training whatsoever, you're never gonna be as likely as that guy to have any of these things happen in your house. Bonus Bonus Points: The reason there is a higher rate of suicide about gun owners is not because gun owners have more attempts, it's because gun owners have more _successful_ attempts; a firearm is more likely to be fatal because of it's lethality and how it basically does all the work for you and there's no going back, whereas slitting wrists requires actively pursuing a blade into your flesh, ropes can break, you can throw up pills, and falls don't always kill you. Gun owners are no more likely to attempt suicide than non gun owners. This is not to make light of suicides or how much of a problem they are, but simply the facts. And that sense of security your guns give you will shatter the instant I tell you that your gun is virtually useless if someone kicks in your door and you're too damned show of shaky to retrieve your ammo from the other side of the house and load the guns before they've stolen your blender and spray painted your dog.

    • @ohioflyer_12
      @ohioflyer_12 7 місяців тому

      I would argue against that. They are my guns, and I will do with them as I see fit. If you live alone why lock them up? They don't just go off. Here are a few simple solutions to locking up a gun that would render it useless in a home intrusion. Got a kid who can barely crawl, put it up high and out of sight where they cannot see it. Got Toddlers who like to explore? then keep the mag and gun separated but unlocked. Got kids who can walk? There are solutions for that. TEACH your kids gun safety. I Agree with your statement minus the first line. A locked gun is a useless gun.

      > All he did was confirm that his mag was loaded and chamber a brand new fucking round All he knew was to redo the "click-clack thingy" sequence of moves, without a clue what he's doing it for, so he did it the way he's seen it done in action movies. Big brain.

    • @RealCaptainJaws
      @RealCaptainJaws 7 місяців тому

      One in the chamber? Now my 4-year-old CAN discharge it. It's like, no matter how many times you're shown the statistics proving that your family is more likely to be injured by a chambered firearm stored in the house than an intruder you'll probably never experience, you'd just rather let cognitive dissonance win. I get it: it's a really tough conundrum. The firearm is there to protect your family, so your perspective is based in "Well what will I do if I have to use it?". What you need to do is take a further step back and ask, "What are the odds I would have to use this in my home?" It's actually negligible. Now, out and about you might be a witness to a random crime, but in your home it's just not very likely STATISTICALLY; meaning that you very well could live in that one house next to that one neighborhood that means you're a sitting target for daytime burglary, but that's such an outlier that it becomes an unreasonable debate point. As someone else further up the comment section said, as gun owners we have to take risk analysis more seriously, even when our findings make us uncomfortable.

      @VidiVee 7 місяців тому

      Having to load a gun does increase risk, but the entire point of the video is that having it loaded is a far larger risk to you and your family. From an objective risk management standpoint, it is increasing rather than decreasing danger. It's not a zero sum equation, so zero sum math falls short of reality. For home defense a gun is very far down the onion model - It's shocking how many people have spent a mortgage downpayment on an arsenal and don't have a single CCTV, No plates on doors etc. It's much safer to avoid being burgled in the first place.

      Hi. The live stream had a lot of pre-meeting on the front that needs trimming. Also the AC noise was significant. Correcting these issues makes for a better viewing experience. No one is hiding the original video. But there is some time when the new file is uploading and transcoding and the old file is deleted. Occasionally there is a technical issue with the process and the delay is more than we would like. This was the case this time. Thanks for your comments.
