@@theflyinghobo4259 Very embarrassed to admit this but nothing was ever wrong with COD: Blitz joystick configuration in the Options, Controls, Axis menu. I simply did not understand that you had to DOUBLE click the left mouse button while pointer hovered over the COMMAND box in order to have it bring up the next menu to find and assign the joystick to the movement shown to the left of this box.

Stock CFS3 uses DX8 shaders which didn't have those features. About 10 years ago a DX9 shaders mod was created (linked in the description) which added self-shadowing, much better reflections, and many more enhancements. It has been updated several times over the years and a new update is nearing release which will contain significant improvements to the sky, among other things.

I always set limited ammo. 300 rounds per gun at about 1,200 rounds per minute gives you about 15 seconds of firing time in a Spitfire MkI. Good trigger discipline and firing at close range can make a big difference in what you can do with those 15 seconds.

Thanks! I know what you mean about Il-2. It *should* feel better, but it doesn't, and I can't say exactly why either. As a pilot by trade, I've focused my mods on trying to capture the small things that I think you aren't normally conscious of, but seem to pull more than their fair share of the weight in creating an experience I find satisfying. So far it's going well, and progress continues. This video is a few years old, and looks a bit dated compared to next round of mods that I'm close to releasing.

@@theflyinghobo4259 Hello. Your caption states that the mods you've linked will get the game close to what we're seeing in the vid, but not quite. Why aren't all the mods available? Mate, I would pay money for it; I'm serious. I'm trying to find the patches to allow the game to run on windows 7, but so far no luck, in fact I don't even know where to begin. I have the game on disc and the V2 update. I haven't installed anything yet. Any help would be appreciated and as I said, I'm prepared to pay.

​@@ilguitarothe mods that I can't release currently fall into two categories. 1, some are mods of others' mods which I cannot release on their own. 2. Some are so complex that there is no way to release them without creating a completely new standalone version of the game. I am presently working to replace the mods I can't release and folding them into a new standalone version of the game that I can release as a single download. I may be biased, but I think the results will be pretty good. Unfortunately it will take a while. I'm just a guy working for fun in my limited spare time. For your questions about getting CFS3 working in windows 7, I've forgotten the details, but I used to run it successfully on Windows 7 before I had to upgrade to 10. I recommend asking at the CFS3 forum here: sim-outhouse.org/sohforums/forums/cfs3-general-discussion.7/ I go by gecko over there and there are lots of helpful people who I'm sure can get you up and running.

@@jasonschofield37 Yes, I've heard it's been done successfully. I'm not clear on if the full VR 3D effect has been achieved or not. I have never tried VR, so I can't comment on that.

I am trying to get it all to the point that it can be released as a standalone version of the sim. That's a long slow slog still ahead of me, but meanwhile you can try the mods listed above.

It has a lot of similarities. WOTR is built on top of CFS3 just like this, and thus the scenery is compatible. I have ported the WOTR scenery into my modded version of CFS3, which gives it a similar look. The Spitfire I'm flying in this video is much more technically detailed and demanding than the one in WOTR, but WOTR remains more polished overall.

Where are you getting this information? The terrain textures are indeed ported over from Wings Over the Reich, which is payware, but every other mod is either freely available or still in development and not available anywhere. If you are being asked to pay (other than to buy Wings Over the Reich) you are being scammed.

it was on the mediafire site its say if i wanted to download more files i have pay. Also the game does not work on windows 11. Shame really. Thanks for the reply

@@Mulberry2000 I had a look at it and mediafire has made it confusing, probably intentionally. If you right click on the individual zip files you have the option to download them individually without upgrading to a premium account. As far as Windows 11 is concerned, I know for a fact that people have it running. I'm still on windows 10 so I can't give specifics. Thanks for the reply, the no cd patch does not work, it keeps asking me to put in cd 2. I have tried to download single files and mediafire does allow me to do so, it keeps asking me for money. Also I have tried a compatibility test and put the Cfs3.exe to windows xp service patch 3 but again it does not work. Also I have lowered the resolution in the compatibility settings to what was offered - again it does not work. I just gave up and put it down as a lost cause as the game refuses to run on windows 11. I have already been to the forum and tried to do what was suggested but no joy. The game is so old it cannot be run on windows 11. Right or left clicking on mediafile files does not work I have to pay to get It. Like I have said the game is too old, it will not work and it is a dead game etc. No I have not done bulk downloads.

@@Mulberry2000 Sorry to hear you can't get it to work. Not having windows 11 I can't help you further myself. I can only say that I don't think your experience is typical based on what others have reported. If you try at the forums somebody else may be able to help.

I'm using TrackIR. I believe some people have gotten VR working, but that the 3D effect is limited.

DCS is the modern combat flight simulator. It is indeed epic. You also have War Thunder which is a more expansive, free to play, but more casual (gamey) version.

Never. IL2 was ahead of its time.

Granted I have modded everything about my copy of CFS3, but I think the graphics and the depth of systems modeling in the Spitfire is better than the original Il-2 series. Graphically, the Great Battles Series is still better of course, but the systems modeling in the Spitfire is definitely ahead of what is in Great Battles and I find it a more satisfying experience to fly it.

I am looking for one that looks more like a vintage 1930s-1950s fighter than a more modern F-14 or Mig-35 one. @@Melvorgazh There are replica flight sticks for several WWII aircraft on the market. They are expensive, and I don't own one. I don't remember the manufacturer, but a Google search should give you what you are looking for. Modding is altering or adding to the files of a game. Some games allow for more of this than others. CFS3 allows a significant amount of modding. Other games are much more limited. How you do it depends on the game, each one is different. If you want to get into modding a specific game, ask the people who are already doing it. For CFS3, you can find them at sim-outhouse.com. Mods are often made available to download and you can learn from those and asking questions about how to make your own.

No, I'm using TrackIR.

I believe it is possible to use a VR set as a full motion head tracker, but as far as I know, true stereoscopic VR is not yet possible. I don't own a VR set myself, so I can't say for certain.

Mainly because I can't mod it nearly to the extent that I can CFS3. CLOD is a really pretty sim, and sometimes I do enjoy flying it just for that. But CLOD has had, and still does have issues that I just can't get over, and that always ruins the experience for me. Near the top of that list is a superhuman AI with perfectly timed lightning reflexes that can do multiple full deflection control surface reversals in a fraction of a second. Just watch their ailerons next time you are one one's tail and you'll see what I mean. At the same time, their maneuvers and aggressiveness are really bland. As a single player guy, this is something that really kills enjoyment for me. The other big thing is the aircraft systems modeling. Different systems in the aircraft do not relate as they should and engines are too fragile and prone to overheating. I say this because in spite of the wonderfully complex modeling and equations that try to take everything into account, you still end up with an aircraft that isn't capable of being flown the way flight test data, pilots notes, and combat reports indicate that they were flown. Some people might disagree, no worries, they have CLOD, and it is still a really cool sim. I'm not one to go whining to devs about stuff, so instead I went and built something where I could enjoy my flights without those issues.
