I prune my apple tree so there's no central leader. The tree has given me more fruit since I stopped letting the tree dictate how it grows. Most other professionals who have videos on UA-cam say apple trees should be in a goblet shape. The reasons are so wind doesn't have a target. All limbs that try to grow straight up should be cut off. That's how I do it, and the fruit is better, and more abundant.
Karl Pearson that’s good to hear ! Do you have any recommendations for pruning a persimmon tree with lots of new straight upward 5-7’ branches above old wood growth ? Would it be good to cut those back to three buds or so or just leave them or cut them back to the main woody branches ? Thanks so much ✅🕊
