SHAKE gets his first taste of the Apache, and the fellas get in some target practice at the local airstrip.

Well...I guess it works now? The TADS targeting issue still frustrates me but the FCR did what I needed it to. So who knows?

I love the Apache but there are some weird things that happen on certain areas of maps.
have you tried clearing the memory on the missile before you shot? have you tried lasing the target to store the track data into the missile? I get the feeling you are missing a step here with the radar but I havent really used the radar yet. I know you dont need to lase to store a track, but its something to look at for troubleshooting.
Yep, did all that. The video itself is confusing because I am complaining about the FCR but am using the TADS when I miss the Shilka. My main gripe is that sometimes ALL modes miss targets for no reason. FCR, TADS with K and L model hellfires. Some days, most of them work, some days nothing hits. In fact, when I hover at the north end of that particular airfield - NOTHING will hit the target. Yet at the first objective 20KM to the East, every single missile hits its intended target. Weird
@@wraithdcs the radar doesnt identify if targets are destroyed, so it should still pop up on the radar return. Im not certain about why they're missing though, it seems like they arent searching for a target so that means they dont have a target stored in memory.

Use a Kilo. The Lima uses a radar signature that you are just telling it an area to aim for. So if the area is cluttered it just finds a target in that area. The Kilo will ride a beam to what you are aiming at. At the moment the FCR can't differentiate between dead or live target. Still a WIP. Trust me I feel ya on some of these headaches.
Yep. I started carrying a mix of both. Used Limas on out in the open targets and Kilos on clusters of vehicles. But when I refuel and rearm, the problems start again. Not sure why.
Yeah, it seams like it doesn't seem to know what's loaded. I usually have George select the different weapons through his menu. This seems to work a little since he knows what's loaded. So, many times I have had to cycle through menus to get the system to know what it is loaded with.
Well at first you're out of FCR range for your target. 6K plus FCR can't detect static targets. As for the lofting behavior I've seen much the same on my side. Best practice for me has just been aligning my nose a bit more.

Testing again tonight with fresh Doppler data. I would rather run out of gas to test my theory. Going FCR at different altitudes, then trying TADS at close range. Fingers crossed
Been seeing this too on the server that I play on.
Bug report thar stuff
you have two different designations, the FCR has one designation and the TADS is designating another, this could be an issue? dont know how the apache system is supposed to work, so hard to say if there is a bug, or user error.
I agree. In the video, the FCR isn't picking up what I can clearly see Line of sight through TADS. Either way, my issue is that on some areas of a map, everything works great, on others - it doesn't. Could very well be user error. I can only get Mavericks to uncage in a Harrier about 50 percent of the time. It's fun though.
Did you lase the target? I know it may sound odd but often TADs shots with RF hellfires require you to lase it for a few seconds before shooting. Might help
Yep. Can't fire in TADS without target data. Lazed but it won't hit what I targeted. And this literally only happens on certain areas of maps. 20 miles southeast of that airfield, is another airfield that my missiles hit everything I target.
@@wraithdcs that's super odd, in the video I don't think I saw the laser cross but I might be mistaken
Nope double checked you did lase, that's so weird
@spikef22 and by all means, I'm very new to DCS. But when everything works on one area of a map consistently, and then further north, it doesn’t - I'm at a loss. My "Grand Theft Apache" video confirms it. Aim, laze, shoot, no problem. The only issue I ran into was clusters of vehicles, which makes sense.
@@wraithdcs Hmm def report this on the forum I wonder if its some sort of tangential FCR related issue
"Anyways in other news look at this other new shiney module we just released for DCS!"
😀
Only thing I can think of is it appears to be locking the ground instead of solid objects (Have the same problem with flir in the hornet), try adjusting it so the crosshair is aiming at the ground beneath the target, see if that works? At least that is the case for gps guided, laser should fly right to the side of the dude unless there is a bug where the laser goes through. But if you look at the crosshair and where the missle flew, it hit the point on the ground behind the target
The area it hit was around 50 yards from what I targeted in TADS. The Shilka was off to the left of the ant mound the missile hit.
That's not how radar hellfires work, since this is beyond 2.5km on a stationary target the missile is forced into LOAL mode. It will fly to the general area marked by the current sight (TADS in this case) and look for targets with its built in radar.
@@thomasgallagher6935 That makes sense. I just can't get the hellfires into LOBL. I've even tried aiming at the tracks or ground in front - but every few missiles will vere off to patches of grass.
Try LOBL? I think just a bug, mine does that too often...that or it hits the same target 5x even though it shows it cycling the targets
I can never get LOBL to activate. And yes the constant hitting of the same target is very frustrating.
😂😂😂 ohhh daaaamn ! Nice vid 👍
O hell nah

I get it it to, it seems to be when you are a using a tv picture on one of your MFDs, If you dont have a TV picture up then mine is fine. If I use the TADS its flashes
I've had it flash in the A-10 and Harrier as well. I'll have to check and see if it does it with screen on/off.
Ok, thanks for posting this. Last night my screen was flashing in my Ka-50 during takeoff. I chalked it up to my VR being weird, but my mirror on the monitor was flashing as well. After seeing yours here in 2d, it's clear, it's a game problem. The chances we both have driver problems are way too high....
Yep. It's an annoying glitch. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Why someone flying a chopper that high
😐
What do you mean, relax from the start until you meet the rocket?
That was clever sir
I try.
Brrrrrrrrrt?
Thats what the A-10's gun sounds like.
Is that an Apache helicopter firing those missiles?
Yes
Track woes concurred! Insta-subbed (nice chan - keep 'em coming!)
The funny thing is I made that a day before 2.9 came out. Low and behold, they are now worse. At least in the AH64.
I truly think the Apache is a bigger resource hog than we know; it is noticable whenever I'm online and there's some on the server. Especially if I'm the one in it. Makes sense it makes the track algorithm more upset than other airframes.
@@RibshackTV Working on an update video that is either complete luck - or I found a way to make track files work. And I mean, actually work with Apaches. Plus some camera tricks I figured out.
Looking forward to it bud!
@@RibshackTV Annnnd, they fixed it. So far, track files are working.

the slow-mo is a bit excessive but good video!
