Is the shear bucket designed to split bales and hold the plastic?
Yes it is, and it works really well will silage bales but currently we’re only feeding pit silage so the shear bucket is only used the odd time to spilt bales.
What was the fitting you got for the air to go in the blank space and where did you get it thanks
We just got a hose tail adapter with 10mm coarse thread out of a local spot in Ferns called Denby’s. If you online you can get them easy enough I’d say, looks like screwfix have them.
@@wicklowfarmlifealright thanks so much
keep doing videos on the rye and triticale till they are harvested ........would be. interesting to see how they turned out ..........your crops are looking very good at the moment ......the weather has played ball so far ........
Thanks 👍🏻
The starter compound what is the breakdown of it.
51 P + 1% Zinc
Keep up the good work guys👌 Very educational for somebody starting out in small scale Irish silvoarable … great info on the forage rye, triticale & fodder beet 👍
Thanks 👍🏻
Really enjoy your content for the last few years well done good music also
Thanks 👍🏻
Comment to support your channel, top class content 👍👍👍.
👍
what variety of beet is that you are lifting .............?
Few different varieties, the orange beet is Jamon and the yellow and white beet varieties are delicante, bangor and bolero.
Great Job... turning into that field with a one row is a fair bit of work, the harvester is looking well good few of them around my area back in the sugar beet days! Looks a decent crow, did you work out yield after and why chose that variety?
In the end that field yielded about 32 tons to the acre and we always grow a few different varieties of beet. In previous years we grew only low dry matter beet because it’s good for grazing with the sheep but this year we grew half low dry matter and half high dry matter beet as high dry matter stores better and sells better. With all the different varieties our stack can sometimes look like a bit of a rainbow with the orange, yellow, white and sometimes red beet but every year we use/sell it all.
Excellent video, so much better without the music, much better listening to the Tractors , machinery and you're commentary, Can you tell us more about you're farm ? size, cattle numbers, rented or owned land etc, also more about yourself, are you full time farmer or in college? Hobbies etc You sound fine btw🙂
Glad you enjoyed it more without as much music. I’m planning on doing a video explaining more about our farm and about myself so you may just keep an eye on the channel and that video should be up soon enough 👍🏻
@wicklowfarmlife Thank you
Great video Sir, keep it up! Liked the Crop walk aspect to the video, Maybe when you walk it again you could talk about what or who the forage crops are going to and what do you expect in yield! - Like I said keep it up!
Thanks and I’ll keep that in mind for the next one 👍🏻
There's a small tub feeder, 3 PT hitch mounted. Seen on donedeal a while back. Think there's an agent up north.
Sounds like an interesting piece of kit, may have a look at one. Thanks👍🏻
@@wicklowfarmlife I think the brand was VDW or some like that.
Thanks 👍🏻
Are they rearing calfs iv pedigree salers i used have pedigree charolais
Currently most of our cows are finished rearing their calves as we calf mostly in the spring so the calves are old enough to be eating mainly silage and rolled barley.
Is it pedigree cows ya have jesus you giving them some feed
Yeah pedigree Parthenaise cattle, they’re a French breed.
Are the dry cows getting maize and beet
@gadgetfitzgerald5749 At the minute they are but the closer they get to calving the less beet they’ll get and they’ll be changed onto haylage instead of silage.
Check other farmers to see if they know where to get one or if they know someone that has one on sale. Very good video. How many acres do you have and how many fields do you plant and what kind of cattle do you have and do you milk cows
We’re farming pretty much 135 acres, half grass and have with crops, we sow barley, maize, salad leaves, triticale, forage rye and fodder beet in rotation through the whole farm so all our grass is no older than 5 years. All our cattle are for beef not for milking and our cattle are a French breed called Parthenaise. We also have 100 ewes which are not milked.
I’m a retired farmer don’t live on farm sold my half to my brother he has it now I’m from Indiana lived here all my life my hobbies are making fudge , rock hard candy different flavors , noodle maker , dumplin maker and cook plus some house work flower gardens a little hot bed garden in boxes an fishing and camping. I just love watching all you farmers everyone , I seen so far do all different things . You got agricultural seeds and fertilizer farmers , dairy farmers, beef, and pig farms , vegetable farmer , dairy sheep and goat farms , horse farms. Some got hills and hollers , flat lands , sandy lands , clay lands .Some have no electric heat with wood or off the grid farmers solar panels some have windmills to have electric. But just love watching all of them it brings back quit a lot of memories for me .
The pedigree Parthenaise cattle are sold to other breeders, mainly bulls and any other cattle are kept or sent to be slaughtered. The ewes have there lambs in April and we keep 20 ewe lambs as replacements to allow us keep a relatively young flock and the rest of the lambs are slaughtered. We rarely sell any sheep to other farms, mainly just sell sheep to the factory to be slaughtered👍🏻
Must have a closer look at one, how much seed would the hopper hold, im currently using a mf30 drill.
The hopper in this video is a 250 litre which only holds about 230kg of seed. You can get a bigger hopper though and it has a 800 litre capacity so probably 750kg of seed. Our plan is to buy an Erth Agriseeder with the 800 litre hopper next year.
Love the seeder be interesting to see how it goes drilling cereals!
All our winter crops have been sown by the same seeder. Our spring barley was sown with it too and it turned out pretty good.
Someone show farmer phil
Thanks 😂👍🏻
Was thinking the same 😂
Great video, great to see the old machinery still working, please no music, let us hear that 7610
Thanks, next time I’ll get more footage with the sound of the 7610👍🏻
Thank's very much 👍
Great vid..... Shout out from Avoca 👊🙌
Thanks 👍🏻
Just subscribed to your channel love your content more videos on beet please not many channels in ireland pulling beet.please stop the music love to hear the sound of machines working.what part of wicklow are you in love this county I go down to the irish horse welfare Trust in woodenbridge a few times a year farm safe
Glad to hear you enjoy the content, plan is to make at least one more video of pulling beet this year and we’re actually very close to Woodenbridge, just down the road outside Aughrim.
Another very good video, fair play to you! The 7610 looks in good condition, is it your own?
Thanks, the Ford is a local man’s as well as the lifter itself 👍🏻
Hi
Well lad👍🏻
Good video nice to see the 7610 at work.
Thanks 👍🏻
Great see Old Ford still earning her keep 💪💪 Looks grand beet. 🤙🤙👍👍
New set of tyres and she’ll earn her keep for many years to come👍🏻
Super Video. Fair play.
Thanks 👍🏻
Lovely outfit harvesting beet.. May be slow but quality work. No stones either and good quality tops too. As regards trailor light no compaction. Grear video as always.
Thanks 👍🏻
great video keep it going
Thanks 👍🏻
22 acres less than 2 hours what were u at
22 acres split up in to 4 fields and 3 fields were a long draw back to the yard and then we had lots of rake trouble. 4 different rakes had to come row up the grass because the first 3 broke down. Once we got going good though we were travelling well over 12km/hr so if you could keep grass and trailers to the harvest you’d easily lift 10 acres an hour.
Another good video well done young man, you'll be at 10k subs in no time at all at this rate!
Thanks lad👍🏻
Good stuff, following you all the way from Kenya
Thanks 👍🏻
How do you find the erth seeder? Is that suitable for grass, red clover and cover crops?
The Erth Agriseeder was designed as a grass seeder but we’re confident enough to say that it could sow almost anything, Except beet. We really like the seeder and we will keep experimenting with it and learning what it can and can’t do.
👍 I invite you to my channel
Super stuff, was that grassland and did ye spray it off first?
The field that I droned the ploughing in wasn’t sprayed off, it was just grazed down tight but the other field that we ploughed was sprayed off
Another great video. How do you rate the Puma versus the Maxxum? Are there anything diffrent? Keep up with your good filming.
Very similar tractors only different gearboxes. Personally I prefer our active 8 gearbox which is in the Maxxum. With the Puma I felt I was always between ranges so I was either too slow going up and down the field or too quick then turning on the headland. The Puma has been mapped so it’s loads of power compared to our Maxxum but we’ll be mapping our Maxxum up to almost 200hp next spring.
Could you tell me what the tread was on the bold where you tapped the air from?
The bolt had 10mm tread.
@@wicklowfarmlifewhat kind of thread is like not size is it like fine thread or course thread

Does red clover not need fertilizer?
Red clover fixes N to the soil which feeds the grass and in return reduces the amount of chemical N needed. So no red clover does not need fertiliser but applying fertiliser will do no harm, it will only help the grass and clover and encourage them to keep growing. Red clover could be grown without any fertiliser. Since it produces its own N, you would still get a decent crop off of it.
Thats mint😮😮
