Tech reviews from a blind perspective.
New updates to iPhone/iPad and Mac, wonder how bugs exist and how to squash
I talk about updating to iOS 18d and MacOS Sequoia. I focus on personal voice and remind the tech and internet world to take seriously the access to webpages and apps while using assistive tech like screen readers. Always feel free to comment on anything. #accessibility

Kindle Reading with VoiceOver on MacInterface with VoiceOver on Mac your finger, even Worse lol

I explain how to navigate the Kindle app using VoiceOver on Mac. Just a few key commands gets you from one book to another. Also, burnt food is disappointing but a burn on your finger is way worse, in my opinion. lol

I love to talk about the magic mesmerizing "World of Technology!" Looking back through the years at tech's many caterpillar to butterfly advancements. Things have come a long way since the early days of the internet and cell phones. Tech is extremely helpful in so many ways. And shopping is one of them!

Learned To DownLoad Books on NLS EReaderlearning! Love to learn!
Переглядів 895 місяців тому
We never stop learning! I learned finally! How to download books from the Bard site onto my EReader to read in Braille. I figured it out yesterday and have been super excited!! And proud of myself for figuring it out, all on my own. IF you have a Bard account then all you need is the EReader itself, on wifi, to download books onto the reader from Bard. Really enjoying my Humanware NLS EReader B...

I talk a little bit about the new NLS EReader Braille display I got from my public library service for The Blind and Physically disabled. I mention something I just learned about non-compatibility, as well as why I find it to be my new Friend. I haven't learned how to download a book onto my NLS EReader from Bard. If anybody has any tips, please post in the comments. Cute and nice little free t...

Great demo Kristy!
How to get Your voice on the phone, I want to do it
Hey, quick question. Would you say this has the best compatibility with the Mac? Like can I use the scroll buttons on the side to scroll through items on my Finder and Doc? Can I perform something similar to the JAWS input commands on a Focus 40 blue display, but instead do things like access the menu bar/menu extras, perform a VO right and VO left arrow to move through the screen, access notification center, control center, and system settings? Like can I do all of that without needing to ever touch the keyboard?
Happy Birthday!

@@tiernandevine2849 Thank you. Hope you are doing well.
@@KristyViers I am thinking about getting an apple laptop. What type do you think I should get? And can you do a video on RTÉ? Use VoiceOver with a Mac? Hi to use VoiceOver on a MacBook.
Great review 😇😇
I still need to create my personal voice!
Yay! I'm glad they added the feature you mentioned. Wish it was done sooner but good none the less
Great demo Kristy. Love your description of the Roku voice as being “mublish!”
Thank you so, much for watching. Yeah, I enjoy sharing the good and bad about different tech. I joke and say, "Roku Screen Reader needs some Prozac! Sounds so sad, and hard to understand. lol
Great information - really great news that you got the clicks 😊
Thank you!!! I'm so happy to have the keyboard clicks!! It's like Christmas!! lol Thank you so much for tuning in. Hope you are well. And enjoying your summer.
@@KristyViers@KristyViers My pleasure. Unfortunately summer is off to a slow start in the UK - raining as ever 😅😂
Tons of rain is no, fun... We've actually have gotten a decent amount of rain this summer here in Michigan. Was rainy some today in fact. lol Just been a hot summer.
Hello Mister Colson! Did you like your treats?
Independence feels wonderful!
thanks. Im pretty amazed too by the modern world and technology and Im 30. Makes me wonder what people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, etc think.
Thanks for the video! So many cool things we’re benefiting from technology-wise these days
Same here. Only 2 days left until the event!
I agree, I'm very excited to see what Apple launches. There are so many possible useful features you can build with generative AI for accessibility.
Yay!! Just a short while till we find out what we'll see in the next updates!
I was given one of these when I joined the Iowa Department for the Blind and I love to use it to practice my Braille on when writing on my iPad or reading books.
Nice!
Can we be friends?
Feel free to post as much in the comments as you want. I appreciate the UA-cam community.
@@KristyViers ok. I love making new friends. That’s why I asked you if we can be friends.
Hi. Nice meeting you.
I'm not blind, but I would totally love to have access to a braille terminal for experimentation in a Linux environment. Awesome fun!
I've been watching kindle accessibility since I got my first mac in jully 2023. As far as I know the kindle classic wasn't very good with vo before amazon stopped in in october. Currently with the latest version of kindle on macos 14.4 its accessibility is as bad as on ventura when I first downloaded it. First time seeing your channel, cool to see our community is being modernized! Also sorry but can you have at least get earphones or something so voiceover doesn't interrupt you speaking with your face position info? Anyways, see ya! Just subscribed to your channel.
If the dumpster are across the street, which I assume they are, when do you cross the street… When the cars are straight in front of you, or by your side? I know the answer to this, but I’d like you to tell me what you think, so that I can further assess your OM skills based on what I know… Which, again, might not be wholly accurate. Take practice, and lots of it. It’s several hundred hours of doing things like that good at professional and good, that is. 6:53
The dumpster here is across a parking lot, not across the street. I glide my cane back and forth for any cars in my way, I've gotten super, good at taking out my garbage. Like great! In the last week. Like you said, practice. Makes perfect. I listen for parallel' traffic and the perpendicular traffic in a cress street situation though. When cars next to me go, I go, when cars in front of me go, I stay put. The more traffic the more confusion. Me and far independent travel have never been the best of friends. I think I have a learning challenge in far distant cane travel.
? They usually tell you to “square off, “which means putting your back against a door or other object, and walking the street forward from that point. I am not an OM instructor myself, and never wish to be as I think decided instructor. Can “lead the Blind, “ a lot better than we can lead ourselves. So, if you go out your door, and put your back against it. When you walk forward from that door, what do you find? Try not to hear in either direction, right or left, and you will have “squared off. “ of course, you do know your cardinal directions, correct? You have a braille or audio compass? It’s recommended not to count steps. I’ve heard that from my instructors, and it takes away from other mind tasks that you could be doing, like echo locating clothes, and other things. if you use a cane, remember to sweep it across your body in an ark, with constant contact on the ground. Is your right foot step forward, the cane should sweep left, and vice versa. Of course, you know about trailing and shoreline, correct? You might if you were taught by an OMS, orientation and mobility specialist… Or CMS, which just certifies the orientation and mobility specialist. Again, I am neither, but I’ve read some things in the past and done a few courses. Of course, I did them as a student. If this is wrong, please contact a professional OMS or CMS for more incorrect information. 6:34
You are an inspiration and full of positive energy.
Aww thank you!!
Thank you!!
Cool, so I think you’re good on OM skills. I can’t remember what you said you read braille and wrote in it as well or not, but wish you and your cats a good day. Try to stay cool wherever you are during these hot months in the summer. Have you ever thought about getting a guide dog? Of course, according to the ADA now, you’re supposed to say, dog guide, just like human guide technique, is replacing sided guide. The reason for that is because the blind truly can lead the blind. Got dogs for blind is a school, but the dog guide is your literal dog guide, Putting the animal first and using of course person first language. I’m glad you do that too.
It’s good to see you 1:12
Wish you and your cats the best in your new apartment! 🙂 Thanks for the video!
Thank you! 😊
Wow, that’s really cool. Also ups my opinion of apple
Great video, thanks for sharing
In braille display on your iPhone, can you use activities to create tactile graphics?
I can tell this is really poignant and so I have to watch it in parts. But I would feel bad if I don't comment now that what I have watched is inspiring to me and I couldn't agree more with the title. <3
What voiceover 0:19 voice are you using on your computer?
Currently It's Samantha.
I am using Samantha inhanced for all my VoiceOver voices. I think you will like it.
I hear ya. I walked away from religion years ago precisely because of the narcissism so prevalent in the Christian churches. Good job on seeing through it all to the truth of it.
Thanks for sharing. I hear you! 🙂
It's really hurtful to have a church / church community not see you as an individual or listen to you. If you are still looking to find an accepting community, I know there are a lot out there! But unfortunately there are still a fair amount of Christians who are literally not practicing what they preach. Saw this quote recently about how we treat those we perceive as powerless: The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Amazing
Very cool to learn this! I am teaching my Japanese students universal design and thought this would be really interesting for them. Thank you for sharing the process in such an easy-to-understand and succinct way!
Thank you for doing this ❤
I worked with a blind mainframe programmer 22 years ago. He said he used JAWS to read out what was on the screen. He had been a music teacher previously, and one time he brought his violin to work and played a classical song or two. Someone requested "orange blossom special", and he started out playing normally and then to show off he put the violin behind his back and played it perfectly behind him. We were all pretty amazed. Unfortunately, we all experienced one of the first waves of offshoring after that, and I think he returned to teaching music. One of the most optimistic people I have ever met.
searched all over on how to raise and lower the platform. Thank you!
This was super helpful! I wasn’t sure how to change my same old playlist that would always auto play every time I started a workout! 😀Thank you so much.
Мощно.
Amazing. I watched this years ago as part of an accessibility course. I'm going sharing this with my workmates for when we design elearning training items.
This should also work on the web as it is a VoiceOver functionality! :)
