Limber Pine - NEW EASTERN WHITE PINE ALTERNATIVE 🌲
Переглядів 833 місяці тому
Pinus flexilis is a species of Pine native to the Rocky Mountains. While this species is very tolerant of high alpine soils and climate, it is also very versatile to other conditions such as heat and clay soil. It is a better alternative to alkaline soils than the Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) in Eastern North America through USDA Zone 7. The species is hardy to -40°F. The needles are thic...

Mature Kentucky Coffee Tree (Gymnocladus dioicus)
Can I see update please
❤
We have 4’ trees planted this spring. We’re located in Lubbock, TX and can have very cold dry temps in the winter. Should I still try and water once a week on mild days if overnight temps get below freezing? Any other 1st winter suggestions?
I left my tree outside too long the leaves fell off and part of the stem is dead should I cut it off at the stem
Can we see it now
Great video, Thanks for sharing. Do you do anything different with the stalks once you top them ? What did you end up doing with the cuttings? Thank you
@southerncomfort971 you can root them. I think I've made a video before about propagating Dracaenas. I've done it successfully before, but actually failed with these specifically. They tend to root easily in water when the bottom leaves are striped off
@@NatureMan1 I recently had to top my plant back, it was a 2nd shoot, around 18 inches tall, but pests got it. killing off all but 1 leaf. I cut it on a angle just above the leaf, now I am waiting to see what happens. I am afraid to water it, or feed it right now since it might be a little sensitive. But I am keeping an eye on it. Any thoughts? I am told it could take about 2 months to see?
Do you water them? Or wait till spring to water them?
Excellent video nature man. Especially the end where you gave reassurance of filling in and the aggressive early growth upwards.
I was 3 years old when hurricane hervay struck in Houston I was in Houston
I leave a couple inches head room in my pot and wrap the legs around the inside...
This is great info, thank you! Keep it up :)
Thank you!
Does it do well in pots to wheel in and out of the garage, as I am in zone 5, please?
Any updates on this plant?
Is there an update video for how this went??? I am itching to propagate mine because the lower leave are all yellowing and sad, I think it got over watered by rain while i had it living outside. But the top of the plant is just gorgeous and growing new leaf after new leaf, all looking bigger than the last, I'd like to put the pretty healthy growth as its own plant and then kinda restart the bottom damaged leaves
I left my palm tree outside in march for 2 snow storms and my palm was buried under 2 feet of snow. It’s still alive and growing in Maine
💚

Woah woah woah. House plants don’t grow in low light! Most all will stunt. They need a lot of light, even filtered sunlight, and they’ll thrive if you train them to be outside. They just don’t have sunscreen/plant melanin. They have to be slowly exposed to the sun so the leaves can produce the chemicals that protect them from UV rays. “These plants are extremely slow growing” THATS BECAUSE YOU THINK THEY’RE LOW LIGHT PLANTS! Almost no plant is “low light”. Poor plants…
Are the berries edible?
Thanks for sharing so now I can get ready for the winter season 🫶🏽
I have a very sick Audrey Ficus that I caused harm to by moving it outside and scorched some leaves from direct sunlight. I brought it back inside andI have had so many issues with it. How did your propagation turn out?
@jlouhand Thanks for the comment! Yeah, leaf scorch will happen when a plant is not acclimated to the sun. Leaf scorch doesn't mean your tree is sick, so treatment isn't necessary. However cutting it back will allow it to flush new growth and also allow it to become a full plant again. Pretty good, I've also rooted other Ficus species as well.
@@NatureMan1the trunk and branches of mine a pale grey ish color which concerns me. It has a whopping seven leaves which seem to be thriving even though a couple of them are scorched. I am not ready to give up on the plant yet, I’m considering propagating.
I like pine but the Coulter pine will always be may fav.
was that a birch pillow?
thanks. stupid me had a healthy, cascading plant until i took it outside for some sun last month & many leaves burned. hoping it will recover.
The leggy vines without leaves, will leaves ever grow back on them? Or just cut them and start new roots? Also do you need a cut piece with a leaf to propagate? Thank you
I LOVE LOVE LOVE geeky long explanations and tough love plant tips. I'd rather learn the right way than learn the hard way. Thank you so much. Been doing research and you're the 3rd person that has suggested water props. Off to get a moisture meter ❤
I, for the life of me, cannot keep my ficus alive! I’ve mastered everything from any succulent adjacent plants to known harder ones like fittonias and prayer plants, but my ficuses are the hardest to keep alive. They hate to be moved, they hate any form of change, they shed their leaves for seemingly no reasons, sometimes all at the same time - I was sat next to my Ficus robusta when it literally dropped all of its three big beautiful leaves all at once… I don’t know what to do to help it anymore, I had three small plants, but they’re all barely holding on…
God put that there just for you ❤
Wow beautiful
Thank you for the info. Looking for a holly in Michigan, zone 6.
Great tree! I grow this and Edith Bouge with no problems in Southern Ontario, Canada
When is the best time to plant these poplar cuttings?
What is the growth rate?
Will it do well in zone 8 North Carolina???
Probably a bit too warm for your region. You could try one, make sure you have excellent drainage
Nature man your getting a little to involved with the scientific terms and names. Use layman and common terms for trees instead so you don't lose people with your descriptions.
How are your propagations doing? Can you let us see how you pot them up? I did exactly the same, and wonder how long the roots may be before potting up. Thanks already!!
Love for you to do a video on zone 8 a in the high desert at 4,000 ft
That is a great idea! Dwarf Cryptomeria would be an excellent option, Dwarf Deodar Cedar like the 'Feelin' Blue' variety. Golden Threadbranch False Cypress. With proper watering Boxwoods or Japanese Hollies would likely grow in your area.
@@NatureMan1 thank you. I'll look up all those names. See what they look like
I always called this a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. They are beautiful trees.
I’ve had my vine plant for 18 years. Its name is George. George got left out in the sun on the hottest of the year so far in southern Utah. Now he’s dam near dead. I’ve had to cut all the rot off and now I’m adding soil trying to revive it. I’ve taken some stems and added them to water in a cup.
how much watering do these need please?
Arborvitaes need regular watering tbe first full growing season in the ground. Give it at least a gallon per day when it's dry and hot out. They tend to dry up easily especially after transplant
@@NatureMan1 thank you so much!
Hi I just got one and noticed some black spots...what am I doing wrong??
Sounds like not enough indirect light and too much water. This combination will lead to dark spots on the leaves due to the lack of light. Not enough light for photosynthesis so the plant can drink the water it was given. This is a common scenario for ficus trees. Move the tree closer to a window that has good light and don't water again until the top few inches of the soil has dried. Use a moisture meter like was shown in this video. Good luck.
Hard to say without seeing it, however in the past I've noticed black spots on leaves can be a result of fungal infection as result of overwatering. You need to let the plant dry out before watering again and I would spray it with neem oil or a systemic fungicide. Best of luck! 😊
They are absolutely fantastic plants.
I found an almost mature one for less than $5.00 in South Africa I shouldve bought two.
In in norway they get big like REALY big easily 100 feet and they easily grow 4 feet a year and they self seed. In norway most forest's consist of norwegian spurce beacuse they out compete most other trees. in norway kids like to eat the new yellow shots, eat them before they get to hard, the shots have a bitter/Intresting taste
How long does it take to root
I have a windmill palm in Minnesota but I have to keep it in most of the winter. On less cold occasions I do leave it out just to see it covered in snow lol. I’m a fan of how cold hardy they are, it’s a nice tropical touch and makes living through midwest winters a little easier
Yeah, they are tough no doubt. But they absolutely have their limits even in zone 6 Indiana. Temps into the single digits can burn the leaves. Temps below zero kill the center of growth (aka the crown). But as long as temps are above 12ish degrees (F) they can be out unprotected. Hope yours continues to thrive for years to come! 🌴
Thank you, your videos are very cool
Mine started growing just like this!! I got her as a free chunk on Facebook. She is at a point that the leaves started growing closer together!! And look full on the front end. There is a large gap from the original two leaves she came with to the new leaves! She has gotten up to around 4ft tall and I clipped her to propagate. I made sure to cut where there were plenty of area roots starting to form!! I have also noticed that the original growth steam has an area roots growing back down towards the dirt so I think that she’s doing pretty good. I am going to slowly but surely cut pieces to propagate over time!! so this video has confirmed my suspicion of this being a vine plant and also that I was taking the proper steps to propagate!!
Thank you nature man 🙏
