Short video with most of the rapids. Level was 7 on the bridge gauge which might correlate to 25 cumecs.

The river rose from 80 cumecs to 100 cumecs. In just 8 hours it rose 150 cumecs! That's 2800 cfs to 8100 cfs.

Our crew paddled it towards the end of April 2021. There were 3 avalanches that crossed the river at various points so a decent amount of wood was scattered about the rapids. I believe the flow was about 2000 cfs.

    Awesome footage, fun fact -early explorers were terrified of this river as it had a reputation for rapidly flooding and becoming uncrossable often trapping expeditions in the river valley for weeks at a time

    Very curious about the very tight boulder squeeze around the 5:30 minute mark. Thankfully on of the last drops with a huge boulder on river right never claimed the lives of at least 5 known substantial underground swims. The drop got rebranded “PICK POCKET” in the early 90’s and hopefully the dangerous underground dynamics have been eliminated. The large mentioned boulder on river right was big enough to make a seal launch reentry entertaining enough. First remember seeing the vastly different drop 1979 so no surprises on huge alterations

    Excellent video! Question: I want to float the flat section above the Box, and below the Honeymooner, entering just below the confluence with Crandall Creek, and exiting just above the Box. Is there a route OUT of the canyon just above the Box, up the canyon wall, emerging at Hwy 296? Thanks!

    Looks like you should have dug out a Jefe or 1st gen Nomad that day...they would thought they were in North Carolina...if boats could think.

    Sick! How portagable are some of the harder drops on this run? Not the mandatory portages, just wondering if you can step it up over time here (I paddle V's). Looks like mostly clean sick boofs and pools. Also looks like some pretty committing multi-drops.

    Diving boards and water slides! Not quite sure why they call it Dinky Creek. Looks pretty big to me. Some really excellent kayaking going on in this edit. You can tell that these paddlers are really on top of the game!

    Thanks for all the videos you make! Sometimes they remind me of all the kayaking I used to do, especially the laps my sister and I used to make together. She's been gone for quite a few years now, and I'm disabled and can't paddle anymore, but these bring back happy memories of times on the rivers with my sister and with friends. Thanks again, and keep up the great work, especially in bringing more women into the sport. There's nothing like the support of other women on the river.

    Melissa, I' love that it's a long video - they're the best and that you had other kayakers in front - the POV alone doesn't do justice (perspective) to the river.

    Nice run! I've been studying your video amongst others as I'll be running this for the first time next month. How did you like the Machno for the NF? I haven't decided if I should bring my Machno (that I love) or 9R2 (badly oil canned, but planing hull). Prob can't bring both.

    Hi! I’m so glad to find female paddler in YT. I want to buy Scorch and I’m struggling with size choice. I’m 5,8 ft (173 cm) and 145lb (66 kg). What are your sizes. Could you please advice.

    • @MelissaVaughnKayaks
      @MelissaVaughnKayaks 2 роки тому

      I think you're the perfect size for a medium! I'm 5'4" and 140 lbs and that's what I paddle

  • @andreasonline9282

    Cool video. I am interested in the Scorch. The problem is that as per manufacturer specs with my 192 lbs I am at the very upper end of the M and very low end of the L. Looking only theoretically at the volume I think the M has enough. I am an intermediate paddler of class 3+ to 4+ doing mostly low volume runs and some few boulder rivers. But I also want to unlook the speed of the boat. I do not want to overload it and/or have the edges always engaged. What do you think is the better size for me, M or L ??
