In my case I just called my dealer (West Houston VW) and they took care of it. Initially I didn't know of the recall either so I just said "hey uhh....my car just started to pump fuel out of itself onto the ground" and they had me bring it in. After about an hour if driag they called to say it's a "known issue" and that they'd have to keep the car a few days to replace a lot of things. They provided a rental car (free of charge) and did all the parts/labor free of charge as well.

The car started and ran fine for a while and then it started to get a bit rougher. When this happens the fuel pump can essentially (from what I understand) push fuel through your emissions system. In my case it filled the charcoal canister full of fuel and eventually started pouring raw fuel out of the back of the car. Problem with that being essentially that you no longer have proper venting if the fuel tank so the pumps struggle to deliver an expected fuel pressure to your motor which is where you get a rough running engine. I still drove mine to the dealer like that but it’s probably not the safest. When I pulled into the service bay there was literally a trail of gasoline leading up to my car on the ground. Kind of sketchy.

VW should warranty it. I’d run it up to a dealer.

No way, that’s awesome! I grew up near Robb Ave & Cole St but moved away in 2004. Haven’t really been back much since then. This was a trip down memory lane for me.

Yeah it was a surprisingly random feeling crash. I always pre-flight check over the thing for any kind of stress marks, cracks, and to make sure the propellers are spotless. I'm not really sure what happened but when she landed it's missing a whole propeller so I'm guessing one failed. I do have DJI Care on it so the bird has been sent back for repair/replacement. For a base model Mavic Mini 3 to go 2025km over 355 flights I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks! Yeah I have DJI Care so I'm sending her in today. Hopefully they get it squared away for me. Over 2000km on the same airframe is pretty solid.

Sure thing. It’s a Full-Race (branded) kit with a Borg Warner 6258. Walboro 255 fuel pump with Acura RDX injectors tuned on Hondata FlashPro. Fully stock long block & trans so in only ever pushed it to 8psi but it did pretty good.

I am working on attaining my FAA Part 107 exam so I can potentially turn this hobby into some supplemental income. Sounds awesome to get paid to fly drones!

Good question! Yeah before it’ll even let me launch the aircraft it has to link up with at least 13 GPS satellites. As soon as it gets link it knows where “home” is (original launch GPS coordinates) and if I fly out of range on the controller it will perform an automatic return to home. It has saved me many of times with signal interference and range limitations. Whatever DJI put in this new aircraft firmware has really hurt my available range, hopefully that gets resolved in the near future. I can barely fly around the neighborhood without severe signal fade/loss now. No new obstacles in the way, full altitude for direct remote-to-aircraft signal path and it’s still not anywhere near how it was.

Appreciate the kind words! I do see some people fishing occasionally. I also have flown over a few gators in that pond, pretty big ones too! Most people in the neighborhood are aware of it and tend to keep some distance. As for the peeping tom part, yeah I try to keep my distance (fly high) so I don't come across as a creeper as that's not my intention at all. So far so good; no complaints or comments other than some people stopping by saying it's cool. Hopefully it stays that way because I still love this little thing!

@@BrandonLanczak Thanks for the reply. I never get tired of aerial views. I took flying lessons in 1966 and after soloing I had to have back surgery. That ended my flying. I keep thinking that a drone like this is a great alternative. As for the gators, maybe you could catch some and ship them to the southern border...LOL

Yes. And it did get better after a month or two. Turns out I was going too easy on it. Mike at Ringer Racing told me to drive it pretty aggressive; which I think with a torque rating of almost 700ft/lbs it’s a bit difficult to “push” on a stage-1 flashed GTi. After a month or two of driving it decently aggressive, the chattering seem to calm down. It never fully went away, but it did get much better.

DJI Mavic Mini 3. Flies pretty good; as of this flight I have 1,762km on it.

Wish I could provide a good update but I ended up trading in the car for a newer model year Rabbit. I started to chase a misfire issue and after plugs, coils, carbon cleaning, PCV, injectors (and seals), and so on I just couldn't shake the issue and got frustrated. I even did compression / leak down testing and the EQT coil grounding kit. It was crazy. Clutch was great for the whole time I had the car though. The chatter really subsides but never fully goes away. Tons of bite though! I'd suggest it to anyone looking for a clutch on the MK7 platform.

@@BrandonLanczak thanks for the input. My RSR clutch is starting to show symptoms of slipping after 40k miles of abuse with IS38 Unitronic Stage 2+. I don’t know if I should replace the clutch again or put the car back to stock and trade it in for a newer DSG model…

@@RSXengineering honestly I’ve been in manual cars for the past 13 years or so and when I traded my GTi I went DSG. The DSG is pretty slick! I still enjoy a manual car but I’m a big DSG fan now too.
