Ep-08 Haridwar Darshan | Maya Devi | Mansa Devi | Chandi Devi | Kankhal | Ganga Aarti | Dev Bhoomi Series |
Maya Devi:
Goddess Maya is the Adhisthatri deity of Haridwar. She is a three-headed and four-armed deity who is believed to be an incarnation of Shakti. Haridwar was previously known as Mayapuri in reverence to this deity. The temple is a Siddh Peetha which are the places of worship where desires get fulfilled.
Mansa Devi:
Mansa Devi Temple is a Siddh Peeth (These are known to fulfill the desires of the worshippers). It is one of three such Peeths located in Haridwar. The inner shrine has two deities, one with eight arms and the other one with three heads and five arms.
Chandi Devi:
The temple is situated atop the Neel Parvat on the Eastern summit of the Sivalik Hills, the southernmost mountain chain of the Himalayas. Chandi Devi Temple was built in 1929 by Suchat Singh in his reign as the King of Kashmir.
Kankhal:
Kankhal's main magnetism is the Daksha Mahadev shrine, which is a temple to Shiva. The temple's charter legend tells how Shiva's wife Sati (who was also Daksha's daughter) went to her natal home when her father was sponsoring a sacrifice. At the sacrifice, Daksha publicly affronted Shiva, and in her anger and shame Sati self-immolated on the spot. Shiva was furious when he heard the information, and sent his minions to demolish Daksha's give up, which they did. In the end, Daksha proclaimed Shiva as the maximum god of all, and out of loveliness Shiva agreed to remain on that spot forever, in the form of a linga. This particular temple was built in 1961.
