Dietrich Stoeffken Suite in A minor
Переглядів 1984 роки тому
This is music by my all time favorite composer, Dietrich Stoeffken. This selection is a lot closer in musical ideas to J. S. Bach's music but it still retains the sublime introspective beauty of the other Stoeffken's bass viol compositions. Five movements: 1. Allemande 0:06, 2. Courante I 3:26, 3. Courante II 4:58, 4. Sarabande 6:33, 5. Gigue 8:51.

Nádherné! Pane Svobodo, bylo by mozne Vas nejak kontaktovat? Omlouvam se, jestli obtezuju, ale chtel bych se Vas na neco zeptat. Jmenuji se Libor Cerny a ziju v Praze.
Georg, this is a real miracle! To be honest, I have never heard such music before. Yes, there is Bach and he is a genius, but behind the peak of his form the sensuality and those experiences that are heard in the Dietrich Stoeffken suites are obscured. Each of his suites, even in major, is imbued with such quiet sadness, where one can barely hear timid hope. To be honest, I listen to it on repeat, and every time it’s like it’s the first time! Thank you for sharing such a treasure. A low bow from me. I am sure that musicians all over the world will discover his enchanting music.
Good afternoon! Could you tell me where I could get the sheet music of this amazing composer? I want to make an arrangement for the archlute. But I can’t find any links or information about the notes anywhere :( Maybe you still have some sheet music materials?
Hello Dmitry, I am not surprised that you cannot find any written music. It took me a very long time to compile some of Dietrich Stoeffken's music and I looked everywhere! I found bits and pieces in different sources mainly in tablature manuscripts, some bass viol publications and viola da gamba recordings. I got enough material for five suites which I transcribed and recorded. If you give me your email address I will be glad to share this Suite in A minor with you. It is originally written in G minor so it should sound beautifully on archlute. I opted to move it from G minor to A minor and keep the guitar in standard tuning.
@@georgesvoboda Georg, I’m trying to write an email in the comments - but there’s probably some kind of restriction on UA-cam - writing an email in the comments under the video. I wrote it on my Youtub page. If it’s not difficult for you, go and have a look there. Thank you!
Hello Dmitry, you can go to this website and download the PDF files of the music, you will see it on the page. This music is so beautiful that people need to hear it and play it. I put a lot of effort in collecting, transcribing and recording it but I do not want it to just sit in my drawer. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I did. Cheers! Thank you Cassandra! 🙂
2 things I would like to comment: first keep a seady tempo; Second make the sound intonation more equal ; and you're close to it. It is my hope I make my self clear; and you have chosen pieces that are not easy: Bravo for the effort!
Thank you for taking the time to listen and comment on the video. The intonation is a known problem for the guitar I played. Miguel Rodriguez was stubbornly resisting to use scientific method of spacing the frets out on his guitars. The result is a magnificent sound but sometimes the intonation is off. Mine is not the only guitar that has the problem. The tempo fluctuation is sometimes intentional :-) I always felt that the Moog synthesizer recordings of Bach's works did more harm than good for public perception of Bach's music. When I play his music I just try to go where the music takes me. Thank you again for listening and your thoughtful analysis and critique.
So beautiful Jiri! Great to see you still playing.
qué maravilla!!
This deserves many more views.. must have been killed by the pandemic? . . about the time that Rome would have shut down?
Thanks for going through all that trouble to put it up. That was a basket full of memorization and practice to get that! Tarrega would have played that without nails as well. Quite a chore. Segovia went to go play for him once, but was advised by his followers not to play for him due to his use of the nails. Hard to fathom, but that is supposedly the true story. He was buried in a "cheap" grave ( Tarrega ) but was later exhumed to be buried in a more "honorable" spot. Chris Parkening's method book has a photo of this event. I thought that I read that Tarrega's widow finally sold his guitar around 1913 in Cuba, or to a Cuban. Someone would know more about that than I do, I'm sure. Nice tribute.
Very interesting story about Segovia, I did not know that!
Excellent!
WONDERFUL PLAYING BRAVO ............👍👍👍.....!!!!!

Beautifully clean and measured performance! Nicely phrased and with unforced tempi! Bravo! Guitar is evenly resonant too!
Hello Mr. Svoboda I took you class in 2008 (Music 100) Your class was my first music class that I ever took in my school life. It changed my life : - ) I took many other classes after that, I transferred to UCSD and Today I am an Electrical & Computer Engineer with Minor in Music! I will never forget your class. Thank you for your class. Mike Chahini
Thank you Michel, you have no idea how delighted I am that I made a difference in your life. As I am nearing the the retirement from teaching I can look back at my career as a teacher and professional musician and see that it was all well worth it! 🙂
You are such a clean player. You really let the guitar speak for itself.
wonderful, great music! very romantic! Blessing for heart and soul! thanks a lot for uploading this gem!
you have a guitar MASTER ! ( its a Hauser ? )
The guitar is 1977 Miguel Rodriguez with cedar top and Honduran rosewood sides and back.
@@georgesvoboda beautiful sound !
Struggling sound. Perhaps the recording. Much Nail sound. But extremely well played.
Magnifique ! merci pour le partage
I agree with others saying your rendition is majestic. I will also add that it was in good taste to perform with a dark wooden guitar, and the tones are definitely something new in your particular interpretation.
Thank you, Professor Svoboda, for continuing your wonderful guitar teaching legacy! I took your level 1 guitar class back in 2001 at SDSU, and continue to be influenced by your teaching strategies as I teach 5th grade elementary students how to play guitar! I will be forever grateful for learning basic techniques the right way. You are a phenomenal teacher. I have been teaching music over 20 years now in Chula Vista elementary schools, and guitars are one of my favorite instruments to introduce students to, thanks to your excellent teaching. Many many thanks, Professor! Kind Regards, Miss Bethany Myers
Hello Bethany, thank you for your kind words. What a wonderful message! Makes me so happy to hear your story. Be well and keep enjoying and teaching music!
