In my understanding, the patch improved the lights and shadows, the grass and the view distance. And probably fixed a list of bugs we didn't know about in the first place.

honestly they should had just been remastering this entire game from the ground up. All the Resident Evil games getting remasters and being successful, could had been great for Half Life 2
