This channel is an amalgamation of the you tube videos that have been posted by many and various people - to whom I am very grateful - over the years. I have gathered them together in the hopes that this will make it easier for folks to find them - although it is a bit daunting to watch myself age throughout these many years! However, we are all aware of the alternative to aging, so it has never been a prospect that worries me unduly. I love my life, our music and all the great folks who have encouraged me to continue to write and sing. Thank you all.
Submarines and shanties - I was on the Shanty Show!
During my summer tour of Ontario, Canada, I spent time with Toronto's shantymen Pressgang Mutiny. We got a lot of singing in, spent time in the studio, and they interviewed me for their podcast all about shanties, The Shanty Show.

Tom Lewis is a brilliant singer and songwriter, and has written so many well-known and loved songs including “The Last Shanty”, “Marching Inland” and “Sailor’s Prayer”. Like Cyril Tawney before him, Tom is also a former submariner with the Royal Navy having spent years circling the arctic in diesel-electric submarines during the Cold War. We caught up with Tom in between performances on his recent tour of Southern Ontario to talk through his life story, his influences, his time on subs, and of course, his famous songs. With a special singing appearance by the Bytown Sea Shanty Collective.

This song was written by the late ALAN BELL; long-time organizer of Fylde Folk Festival, wonderful musician, and good friend to many 'folkies'. The instructions tell me to mention: @tomlewis968.

This is my latest song, recorded with the help of very dear friends in California. Hopefully we will all be able to sing it together in person before too very much longer. Meanwhile, raise your voice and sing along!

Tom is singing Cyril Tawney's great song of naval life & loneliness. When he and his Polish cohorts (Qftry) recorded this, the Poles created a slightly different arrangement, with which we have fallen in love. Regrettably we don't have a video of this to upload, but you can find their version (with Tom) on Poles Part Two (The Song Goes On).

This little ditty is also known as:- The Captain Played his Ukulele As The Ship Went Down; and never fails to get the audience singing along! This was part of an extensive Australian tour, culminating in 5 days at the National Folk Festival in Canberra.
Nassau Bound (Sloop John B) at Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival

This amazing festival is run to raise funds for the RNLI; this was filmed at one of Tom's many performances there, and is a slightly different take on Sloop John B!

This is Tom's poignant song about sailors' nicknames, but also about the life-changing friendships life at sea can induce.

This piece is from a wonderful poem by Ciceley Fox-Smith. Her poetry is redolent of the tang of the ocean and the sweat of the sailors.

WELOME ABOARD DAD ❤
Never ever stop making music, people love it, save us at the same time, thanks for the music and since I have heard "the song goes on" I never stopped playing it since then
I've always loved that song, first as the beach boys version, then I say you in Chicago and fell in love with the original. thank you for posting this here for me all to find. :-)
For a submariner he doesn't sing too badly - think how good he would have been if he had been a WAFU. Best wishes Tom and heartfelt thanks for the years of music you have given us. Yours Jan Carey WAFU 1st Class. 🤣😂🤣😂
This was such fun to make, hope to do some singing together again someday! I listen to this when I’m in the doldrums, gives me a bit of wind in the sails. I wish I could give YOU a million views. But I will just give a million thanks for all the wonderful music over the years!🍻⚓️
I had one of them squeeze-box things as a young sailor - but I left it in a bar somewhere and didn't realise it for several days - as you know, we sailors had spells of time a bit like that - totally lost days. I also lost a mandolin and several brain cells which I've never found again. Nowadays I'm plonking on a uke with the local uke band as well as risking my health with a Fender 12 string acoustic box. Best wishes Tom, if you are EVER in the Lymington area of 'ampshire let us know. We have a good club here wot meets once a month, it would be good if you came down and showed them how a shanty man might perform. Regards Jan Carey AKA The Glastonbury Ferryman.
Thanks for this Tony - and apologies for the delay in responding - I'm not great at this stuff! However, I'm touring your way in October 2024, so am letting you know, as per your instructions! Be good if we could organize something! All the best. Tom
