Moving to Eugene VS Moving to Springfield
As a professional remote pilot, I'm concerned that you are not following FAA guidelines, especially operating in the downtown area over moving vehicles, government buildings. It's imperative that all pilots know the rules and regulations before you fly and post on UA-cam. This gives professional pilots a bad name and reputation. He is also clearing going beyond his visual line of sight, which is incredibly dangerous. Also the altitude at Willamette river appears exceeded.
Born and raised in Eugene, OR since 1982.
As someone who’s family’s owned property here for years, Oregons zoning laws are insanely strict. It’s uncommon for people to be permitted to build second houses. Unless it’s along the lines of a shed or summer kitchen your out of luck.
I agree, very difficult. There are some ADU options, hardship dwellings, etc. but overall very difficult to have multigenerational living on the same tax lot with a separate home. Unfortunately it seems to become only more restrictive over time. Lane County zoning laws do not help with the affordable housing issue.
This one was more accurate than most. Unless you are skilled trades, plumber, electrician, lawyer, or work in local government, school admin, or EWEB your pay-scale sucks. there used to be jobs at the Motor Home plants but those are gone. And do not bring a nice bicycle, the main past time for the local tweakers is stealing them.
Something needs to be fixed when it comes to the contrast between average income in the area and housing prices. It's my hope we'll continue to see more development in the area that brings more jobs and opportunities that help retain a higher number of graduates from the local colleges.
@@exploringeugeneoregon The only way that is going to happen if for the city to grow the urban growth boundary, and the local banks to lend money to builders to create neighborhoods that don't cost 600,000 dollar starter homes. The one per centers in Eugene are loyal to each other.
@@Telephony954 well said, most of the new construction that is well built is priced for the very upper end of the market, and out of reach for most buyers.
You should try the meckenzie
Fair point, I’ll have to include the McKenzie River in future conversations.
@ there is a boat shop called great wakes and merens and I is great and also in Springfield vs Eugene you forgot to put in the bow rack it is one of the most popular spots to go
Helpful video. Could you describe allergy season(s) in Eugene and does it bother you? thanks
I start to notice allergy season late May sometimes early June, and it's mostly over after the first week of July. Yes, it bothers me, and many people take shots for allergies. There are pollen trackers online, and it shows air quality and pollen count during allergy season. Fortunately you have the mountains and the Coast to escape the allergies when it gets intense.
Born in Eugene and I live in Springfield. I can't imagine living anywhere else! C🎉help the racism! Ignorance is free! Alotta tweekers! Scumbags!
This is a crazy video. The camera makes the streets look almost unrecognizable.
thanks for the feedback, I’ll keep that in mind for future videos. It was filmed in 360 and then reformatted from there.
It has changed a lot since this was posted.
Definitely some changes, might be time for another flyover before long.
To late I fell in love with a stripper and jumped on a greyhound with a backpack and gym bag from Denver I'm a little impulsive I'm also not joking I actually live here now and that's actually how and why I moved here
I don't think healthcare is as a real industry. It's like art and entertainment. Construction is all that a lot of places have going for them.
thanks for the input Michael
Maybe no cliff jump? To get in for experience cold adapted folks looking for a natural plunge in a beautiful place is a special thing...spiritual for some. I hope that never gets banned.
You mentioned the danger of the Willamette river, yet you show idiots without life jackets in very flimsy flotation devices.
Fair point. Thanks for the feedback. Be safe out there everyone.
As I recall, 40 years ago, which by the time I lived in beautiful Eugene for about 3 years, Eugene had 70,000 people and Springfield 100,000, strange, is´nt?
times have sure changed since then!
@@exploringeugeneoregon Yes, sure Eugene is even more beautiful, TY.
Completely missed one of the biggest drawbacks of Eugene: it’s overrun with thieving dope head homeless bums that steal everything that isn’t nailed down and can set up campsites and defecate/urinate where ever they want and openly use drugs.
Also not discussed is the lack of diversity which is quite disappointing.
thanks for the input
Lots of types of white people.
@@kelliott7864you haven’t seen enough of the country if that’s what you believe. It’s factually not and there’s census data to prove it.
Eugene is a college town. The entire city is flooded with students from every walk of life in America as well as foreign students. WTF are you going on about?
You're correct. It's not diverse enough. There are too many woke, creatively gendered, moronically liberal sheep that live here.
Where are all the ppl
Good question… I’m assuming my videographer was filming during work hours.
... and you can't pump your own gas in Oregon. New Jersey and Oregon.. Ridiculous. The Diversity is wonderful in So Cal. Very noticeably absent in Oregon.
Oregon finally changed the restriction on pumping your own gas. About time! Thanks for the input.
Great video. Don't care for the cheap stock footage though.. ;)
thanks for the feedback, always room for improvement!
I appreciate the feedback, thanks for watching Dan.
Whoot a trail named after the great Prefontaine! Great VLOG
thanks! glad you enjoyed the Pre reference, the trail is the perfect spot for runners to train.
Please do another flyover of Amazon Park, including the new YMCA, the second largest YMCA in the United States. Also please increase the quality to 4K, and, include enough resolution to see the Albertsons and the new Dental clinic at 30th & Hilyard. :-) There's also several *MAJOR* new buildings along Franklin Blvd, just east of downtown.
thanks for the feedback Todd, the new YMCA is definitely an exciting development. I was thinking about covering new locations in Eugene for future drone footage, but there have been some positive changes worth covering again.
The lens was all wrong. Made all the cars look stretched, and steets
thanks for the feedback!
Surprised you didn't mention one of the biggies... politics. Eugene seems extremely left. As a moderate conservative who was visiting last week, I certainly didn't feel it was a welcoming place to anyone outside of Dem circles. That is probably hard to see when you're there in the middle of it.
That's a fair point. Many people in Eugene have strong political stances, and the University of Oregon seems to be one of the big influences. Surrounding cities and towns have different perspectives and the political views in Eugene aren't reflective of all of Lane County.
Why would a realtor talk about politics?
@@EdwolfXx Because leftist councils and boards mean leftist, lunatic policies. Because of those policies, for example, Eugene is a city where you cannot utilize city parks and recreational spaces, because they are overrun with street people. Ditto the library and bike paths. Imagine a town where you cannot send your kids to the park to play. That's Eugene. Far FAR too dangerous. One park, under the Ferry Street Bridge, had to be torn down to bedrock... even the topsoil had to be removed. Needles, rats, Typhus. Leftist policies also effect building codes and enforcement. In a city desperate for affordable housing, Eugene policies make it almost impossible to address it. And the homes already in place come under assault by the city as well. We could go on all day on this subject of policies and how they negatively effect owning a home in Eugene... which is why a realtor should mention politics.
@@EdwolfXxseriously?
The bluest city in the bluest state and never a day goes by when I don't feel thankful that this is where I was born and have lived all my life.

How do you pronounce your profession? Real-A-tor?? and where you live? Will-A-mutt Valley?? Look them up !!
Always room for improvement, and turns out I also say "fer" on camera instead of "for" from time to time. I'm a homeowner here in the local area.
Two completely worlds apart. Oregonians have a better relationship with their neighbors in the north than their neighbors in the south.
I agree, tough to compare the two! Also, completely different living in the Southwest vs. living in the Northwest. This video was an initial attempt at comparing the two... a follow up is probably needed.
Be honest w me did you run your video through an ai filter???
honestly, no I didn’t. What makes you ask? feedback is helpful
@@exploringeugeneoregon the speed at which your facial expressions shift made me think you took the video and added a smile filter on it
ah that makes sense, it’s sped up by only a few percent so that might be the reason, but no AI filter.

Do u know if Springfield has low income apartments or mobile homes? Senior cause I just turn 65 thanks.
There are several 55+ and older manufactured home parks with different pricing for homes and space rent including Maia and Golden Oaks, but pricing continues to be a challenge with constant increases. For housing assistance either Homes for Good or St. Vincent de Paul are worth contacting. My understanding is they typically have a waitlist, but they should be able to point you in the right direction. I hope that helps!
@@exploringeugeneoregon yes, thank you for answering my questions.
@@aquiconfeya you're welcome! here to help if you have additional questions about the area

you’re right, looks like it still hasn’t become official yet. There’s a lot of discussion about the ban, we’ll see what happens.

i think it’s a great idea. i’m tired of hiking in there packing a stokes and hauling out 4-5 injured people a year. it gets old. especially when it’s 90 degrees out
A different perspective than most. Thanks for everything you do.
I do thank you for your service. Rescue service is part of the freedom of exporation unfortunately. Bad decisions and freak accidents will always exist. People like you will always be needed. I understand your frustration, however.
Kurt is the only Realtor I would use in the area, great info!
Thanks. I go the extra mile to support my clients!
This is great! I would only disagree on the quality and accessibility of healthcare.
thanks for the input! any specific experiences or additional thoughts you'd like to share on healthcare in the area?
Well done! I just bought a house in Eugene….moving from CA🩷
welcome to Eugene! Reach out anytime if you need recommendations for food, places to explore, etc. Thanks for watching!
Please no more Californians, you've already destroyed California, and over the past 20 years Californians have moved here and brought the same type of thinking and high prices.
Nice objective video, but why no mention of one of its university and that it draws, scholars from around the world. I may sound prejudiced, but I was a graduate student at the U of O after receiving my undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley, and I found the U of O just as stimulating and challenging. The U of O is a world class university yet you don't mention it.
Great feedback. The university of Oregon is a central part of living in Eugene, from academics to Ducks Football, the number of people employed, and the impact on rental housing that the student population creates. Definitely worth noting. Thanks for tuning in, and glad you had an excellent experience in your graduate program.
I love the drone footage. I've been thinking we need to do some videos that are primarily ariel tours of our area. Would certainly give a unique perspective.
Thanks for the feedback. It seems to be easier watching for viewers than just doing a drive through of a location, but with a bit less detail on individual residences and neighborhoods.
Loved this!
thanks for tuning in! We tried to provide a broad overview of what it looks like on a sunny day living in Eugene. Maybe we'll do another one in the future with different locations.

Great looking home! That's pretty far South of Eugene...how wide is your typical range of service?
thanks! typically I stay within about an hour of Eugene by car. Keeps me busy and allows me to best serve buyers who may have a shifting search criteria.
Eugene is my hometown for 47 years. I can no longer afford to live there due to all the people from California driving up the real estate prices.
sorry to hear that! home prices in Eugene have definitely skyrocketed over the past several years.
Very well done. A nice take your time bird's eye view of Eugene and environs. I especially appreciate the relaxing music (with so many using pounding "exciting" background music for everything these days). Nice smooth piloting...what model Drone was used for this? Consider adding that to the description.
I believe it was a DJI Mavic, thanks for tuning in!
