1984 Honda Nighthawk 700S POV ride through town and country with close call at the end.
Переглядів 742 місяці тому
This is a vertical POV video of my nighthawk S on a nice day in May. Made so those looking for one of these can see how they ride. Rode through town and some country roads where I experienced a close call in the last minute of the video. Enjoy!

This is my 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700 or CB700SC. Riding a bit through town and then on country back roads. Takes a while to warm up so that's why I ride it like I do in the beginning few minutes of the video.

Nice! I have an '84 too. Best bike ever,
Sounds great, looks light! Cool bike 👌
they are deceptively heavy, but it’s still lots of fun!
I’ve got an all original ‘86 RWB with 13k miles. What’d use on the exhaust to polish it? Nice CMS keychain too 😉
mother’s mag and aluminum polish! Stuff is great, if it’s rusting/pitting it’ll come back after a while but it looks a lot better
@@averydavis4758 thanks for the quick reply, I’ve worked on a lot of bikes but did not want to risk jacking up that black chrome finish on a mint ‘86. Thanks again!
Beauty 😍 I may be buying one this weekend. 40 years old now and only 34,000 original miles on it 😊
definitely be wary of some things with those miles but that’s awesome!!!
killswitch link?
kill switch is just the original one for the 1970s honda CB’s i didn’t change it
bought my red 84 cb750sc new. 100 000km on it. still looks good and runs great but yours looks really good. ua-cam.com/video/Fhs5q2Ksps0/v-deo.html
Very nice bike you have. Take care it. You will regret ever selling. My all-time favorite of 12 bikes owned in 40 years and 200,000 miles of fun. I bought a red '85 in 2004 that had 1,950 miles on it. The previous owner a year earlier traded a jeep for this bike with 85 miles on the odo.. Like new. It drew a lot of attention. Below 100 mph it had no trouble keeping up with modern sport bikes on the curvy mountain roads we are blessed with in the Pacific Northwest. The Nighthawk S earned respect and astonishment as it whizzed past less experience riders on much faster new sport bikes. What I loved about that bike was the visceral sound and sense of speed. I could ring its neck, push it hard and still stay on the road. Full throttle, 8k to red line is a thrill and I could go coming out of every curve. My previous older bikes would not have stayed on road going that fast. Newer sport bikes are too fast to push that hard. I would miss that red line rush. I loved my VFR800, a better bike in every way except the perception of speed. I could relax at 100 mph in its air bubble. That fast on the Nighthawk S I had to hold on tight, yet it handled brilliantly. I rode the Nighthawk hard for 10 years and 25k miles with no issues. Then hitting my chest into a deer at 60 mph on a DRZ ended my riding. The Nighthawk S was the most fun I had on a bike.
AWESOME story Steve! I got hit by a drunk driver in august and it ended my riding for a bit, but this bike got me back into it. By far the best gearing on a bike i’ve had. Not the biggest shaft drive fan but still. I miss my 70s feel from my old bikes but i will miss this one GREATLY
bought one brand new in84 for $2500.. loved it.. hardest decision was blue or red, I went with red
I really like your build, perfect as you said keeping the spirit of the original but cafe racer looking.
Nice job.
What a cool bike.
how the fck did th needle break?
I think i explained it a few minutes into the video, I did NOT take it up to 180 lol. When they sit for a long time the cable dries up so the mechanism becomes very inaccurate and erratic. The first day i rode it the needle was bouncing all over the place, then it cranked all the way up to the max and hit the stopper which broke it off
@@averydavis4758 Common issue & can be fixed with a cocktail sword & glue

For sale by the way.

very nice Nighthawk, I remember daydreaming about this bike back in the 80s. Enjoy it and be safe.
It's alive!
Nice job. I love it! Have you the links where you bought the parts? Thks
thanks, i put some links replying to the comment about the CM200T. If there are any parts you want links to just ask
Do you live between Illinois and Indiana?
in ohio, but they do all look pretty much the same lol
Nice vídeo

Nice.

This was my first bike. Same color and year when I got it in 94. First trip with my newly minted license was from Indiana to Laconia. Little did I know what a great bike.
sick bike, where did you get the handlebars and the mirrors from?
they are both from amazon MICTUNING Universal Motorcycle... www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCCJR87?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share 7/8" 22MM Drag Handlebars Tracker... www.amazon.com/dp/B07LF3XJ7B?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I had an 86’ in black and red. I miss that bike.
have the same bike but 1992. Interesting that NH700 has more power and lighter then next gen NH750.Hard to find good examples most are mutilated
Of the many bikes I have owned I would like to have this one back. I had one the same color as yours. Put 62,000 miles on it before getting a v45 magna. Thanks for the flashback.
I had a Black Honda 750 sabre I liked a lot. Until 2 racing full log trucks came at me head to head on making me launched bike over embankment. Truck never stopped! 2 old ladies in car behind me saved me! That when Sabre was totaled an I bought 86' Yamaha Venture Royal!
This is my post-wreck bike! Somewhat similar situation totaled my 78 Goldwing in August. Always thought the 750 Sabre’s looked cool, see lots of them lasting upwards of 50k miles
@@averydavis4758 I miss sabre, crashing my wing would be horrible!!! During covid Washington State lockdown, no one was buying big items, so I found good deal on 88' GW being stored as collectors item for $1800, (bike sold for $18000 then accessories added) including better suspension, new tires, airbrush paint scene. I had crack windshield around holes drilled for wiper accessory. I made template of lower profile an shorten shield, checked oil an gas, aired up rear tire an rode it! I'm riding it now while working on my 03' Dyna FXDX. Ride Safe! know that riders care about you and your!
🏍👍
What exhaust do you have on there? Sounds amazing
thanks man. Cognito Moto shorty mufflers.
Cardboard FTW
Hello, your CB 360 looks amazing! I'm starting to buy parts to restore mine! I have a problem here in Brazil because it is not possible to walk around calmly as there is a lot of motorcycle theft. It is difficult to have goods (new, semi-new or old) here. With everything I'm going to fix my CB 360!
Ugh yea I have heard that is a big problem there! Good luck with your build
I got my first Honda twin CM200t. It’s all original, very corny seat, tank…it has a really ugly stance from the fork tube travel being ridiculously long. I already lowered the forks, giving up performance over looks. I have a tank and a seat in the Mail, plus round bar stock to weld in the frame tail with the curve of the seat. This tiny 200 starter bike is for my daughter who is very short and on the small side. My question for you is before I buy all the Amazon led stop and turn signal kit, what type of LED mod box did you but on the bike? Is it necessary for the new leds to work? Where does it get wired? Or clipped in? I’m sorry to ask such a question, I am totally in the dark with wiring and electrical work on bikes….oh, and did that headlight assembly along with front turn signals simply plug into the original wires? I really would like every type of light replacement you have on yours. It looks good on these 70’s Hondas. Would you be also kind enough to put links to all the lights you bought? Thanks a lot for the video.
Yes i’ll put links at the end of this comment. Motorcycle Rewind has some cool videos on cheap mods to a cm200 check it out. No mod box or anything required. The headlight i bought plugged straight in to the harness. I’m not certain what the cm200 connector looks like, but if it’s not the exact same you can always splice or solder connectors that fit. Bottom line is that the light will work electrically. The light itself was a separate unit, and i then bought the headlight bucket and rim as a kit. All the turn signals were plug and play. Given that the rear signals also have brake and tail function, i took off the single female billet connector on the harness and replaced it with one that fit 3 wires. If that becomes too difficult you can just buy signals that only work as turn signals. LEDS were not around at the time they were made, so they may flash weird. They make special flasher relays to replace the original one, but i didn’t need it. All i had to do was unhook the indicator light on the gauges and they all flash like they shoot. It may take a little thinking but it’s not that hard. Bro I just found this video!
Haha that’s awesome! Yeah this the first time i got any life out of it. I’ve got some videos on here and a lot on tiktok you can see what your new bike was like
I just saw this bike on marketplace.
small world! Come buy it!
Nice job on the bike. I'm the original owner of a 1976 CB360T.
Very nice! Original owner is very impressive. I much prefer the original design of the 76 tanks versus the 74&75
How did you fix this?
a frame up restoration lol. Could have been a number of things. I had real low compression on the left cylinder so i did a top end rebuild. New intake manifolds could have been what solved it as well. Also oem air filters
Sounds crazy
Hey man ! What is that led headlight ?
BICYACO DOT 7 Inch Halo LED Headlight with White Halo for Electra Glide Street Glide Fat Boy Road King Heritage Softail Switchback Headlamp Black a.co/d/9z7Wm7E Simple plug and play perfectly with the harness. The halo light is an additional wire so i connected it to key switch power. It will not fit the stock headlight bucket though. I ordered a build your own 7”headlight kit from 4into1.com, just put this light into it instead. 4into1.com/build-your-own-7-side-mount-headlight/ It seemed expensive at the start but you can’t get a good headlight with a bucket that fits the bike for anywhere close to that. For only like $120 i can’t complain. Much brighter
Thanks a lot I'll try to fit it on my own 360. Nice build keep it up!!@@averydavis4758
beautiful machine! congratulations!. One question, what is the size of the rim and covers in front and in the back? thank you!
Thank you! What do you mean by covers? They are stock/original rims, which i think may be 18 inches. Google tells me the tire size is 18-100/90 for the front and 18-110/90 for the rear. I’m sure they have the rim size on google somewhere
You should measure your floats at an angle, at the point where the tip plugs the port. You are measuring the floats with the full weight on the plunger spring, resulting in a gas level that will be too high, defeating the purpose of the spring-loaded plunger.
could u show a vid of the battery hook ups i can't find them on my bike
The ground is the thickest black cable on the bike. It runs from the right side in the middle of bike at the back of the engine. That would be black on your battery The positive cable comes off of your starter solenoid. In my most recent video somewhat near the end i show under my seat and you can see there how it is kind of
Awesome build! Did you have to rejet the carbs or notice any change in performance with the shorter muffler?
No i did not! They aren’t straight piped so i figure that is why. I really think it would have a minimal effect on it anyways. The air filters are the real killer. Bike is twice is good without the pods i bought it with
Somthin aint right 🤨
what’s that? I can’t remember the factory “suspected” top speed but i don’t really expect it to do anything over 70 on a flat road
But the thing in neutral for gods sake 😂 would’ve been over just like that if it wasn’t propped up and clear
Factory exhaust?
I got these from Cognito Moto. They sound awesome, maybe a little loud though. I just posted this video to send to a forum. The right cylinder was firing intermittently
Sounds like a loose rocker arm. I had a couple of classic honda bikes and sometimes they needed some adjusting...😎
Do you know the name of this muffler?
Don’t know if this will do you any good but that style is called a shorty pipe
Hey man, what muffler is that?
Sorry man, unbranded something from ebay or whatever the previous owner got. I will tell you thought that it was not the correct size and the forced it on with heat or something so i had to cut it off. There was nothing inside no baffling etc. So if you want yours to sound that way it shouldn’t be too hard, practically straight piped
@@averydavis4758 Gotchya. Well thanks anyway amigo! I appreciate the reply. The previous owner of mine straight piped it with no muffler and I was looking for something that sounds very similar to yours without sounding like a total jack ass every time I drive out of my neighborhood
@@porkchop-uq5zx if you look at my recent video i have new mufflers that would fit the bill for that. They get pretty loud when you get on it but nothing crazy like the straight pipes. Definitely check it out. They are from Cognito Moto
Retarded timing is firing late, your right though, some sites won't let you post various words with different meaning
How's the clutch feel I this thing, definitely want to get one as my first bike but haven't seen any videos go into detail on how well they ride and feel.
How’s the clutch feel? In what aspect? I’ve never really had an complaints with it, once it was set correctly. Check out my recent video to see the restore version of the bike. I’ve never rode a hydraulic clutch bike so i can’t compare to the cable clutch. The system is super easy to work on though, i really enjoyed that aspect of it i was impressed. This was my first bike. I would not recommend it unless it is 100% or close mechanically. Was not a good learning experience but it can be done of course.
