I can’t see any of the South side except the City Hall and the views of it from the North Side. Could at least give us Douglas Street / Barrack Street area of the south side.
Nobody in Cork cares about all that crap. Never once heard any mention of that there. People are too real in Cork. Best city for normal and genuine people. Women are the most beautiful in all Ireland. Nobody cares about crap from so long ago, they`re getting busy or they`re gettin drunk.
I create immersive walking tours mostly from cities in Ireland and it is so wonderful to be able to compare 2023 Cork with the city in 1980... Just loved it. Thank you so much
This might sound outdated ? But does anyone remember this pub Called THE BELFRY? I'm guessing it's closed.zGreat place that was banter was terrific. And of course the characters int there . Me including that night.Great time.
Looks more like around 1991 from some of the shop fronts. I left in `94. Whoever filmed it had real historical vision because some of the things highlighted were simply `normal` then, and would have been easy to leave out. Thank goodness it was caught. Thanks for posting
@@TheMuller35 Oh ok, thanks. I suppose it didn`t change much over those years anyhow. I miss the old places. The Donkey`s Ears corner, Sir Henry`s and all that. Good times. Great people. I was DJing around then. Just the best memories. Peace bro.
I was a english kid who moved to cork city in 88, 16 going on 17 years of age at the time. In the 7 years I was there there wasn't a day that I was sober I shagged so many girls all mostly French Spanish ect and a couple of cork girls well anyways I miss and love cork, I wish her well.
The change from what's shown on this video to what's here in Cork now is staggering; there has been so much change & not all of it for the better..... 🤔🤔🤔
@@Parseenfroo sorry for that; from Little Island to the city-centre, the amount of change has to be seen to be believed. Eg. Little Island is a massive industrial estate as for Cork City, it's unrecognisable from that video. Kent Station area is being redeveloped to as are the Quays & centre itself. A lot of Grand Parade has been pedestrianised etc. The Bob Dylan song 'Times, they are a changin' was never more appropriate.
My Dad was born in Cork City (the North Side). He told me that the boys would doff their caps whenever they went past a church ... and Murphy’s Brewery. I wish he were still here so I could show him this.
Its 1988 because Merchants Quay was been built at the time and opened in 1989.
It gives the impression that all people do is drink.
I was in UCC in the late 1980s. It’s sad to see some great venues of the time are now gone… Nancy Spain’s, Western Star, Sir Henry’s, Jackie Lennox.
Wow Ireland destroyed itself through multiculturalism. Well done Ireland 😁
Which year?
I’d guess that it’s around 1988.
brutal singer wtf
I was around then. I was probably in school...
Hi just found the channel. I spent all my child hood in Cork. We had a holiday home in Garryvoe. I love these nostalgia vids.
Interesting video but I had to mute that awful racket that was playing.
The wipers on the Renault 4 are a bit gammy.
There was more than the wipers a bit gammy. Great to see an ole car like that being used every day and the owner dead happy with it. Better times!

Great video. Bloody God-awful music though!

Drop the name THE ENGLISH MARKET and change to THE IRISH MARKET. Some bad memories of exclusion for the Irish People.
Get a grip man.
The Irish market was on the Coal Quay, while the richer people shopped in the English Market.

Cork was once a city of tremendous pubs. Not too many left today.
Late 80s early 90s
Great footage.
Nice mucic selection Niall.

That red Renault blast from the past.
Really cool footage.Well done.
My grandparents lived on Blarney Street and my grandad used to drink in Hoggies (Horgans) 😊
My uncle was brought up on Blarney Street.
I'm sure the cycling sign is still there in the train station 😂

@TheMuller35 it's at least 1988... I saw car registration 88 D
It has to be at least '88 going by the car registrations. @@TheMuller35
'88-'89 I'd say. I moved to St Lukes in 1995, Washington St in 1996 and Roman St in 1998. A lot of memories there. Thanks for the video.

Where do you live, Beverly Hills ?
Rainin' again😱
Aw great memories of Cork City. Coming home. I wished they waited for a nice sunny day to film this. Cork is much prettier on a lovely fine day.
We only get sun one day a year in Cork
ny one remember getting the brusk in the sweet shop in blarney street or savages chipper for the pies and patties
the left bank what a knocking shop
I wish I'd known, I'd have went for me hole!
some things never change the fucking weather lol up the coal quay
what a fantastic video!
Back when Cork was Cork. No Nigerians or Romanians back then
Hah.... You'll be squirming by now so
Beautiful thanks for the memories. Catherine gurranabraher. 💖👍
Hello 👋 Catherine
simple times long gone now ! sad
And the north side is still a dump
Not my neighborhood or any of the other 2010s-built neighborhoods. It's paradise.
Gets a bit trippy around 11:15 :)
Looked like quincy took over the VHS. Was weird indeed. At least it was brief
Who is singing that song?
Love cork city
Hello 👋 Monalisa
The awful photography complements nicely the true squalor of the the second largest dump in Ireland.
oh dear
You obviously don’t leave your house much !
Well done, Jim. A great video you how do you send it to deserve great praise

I like that video
99% of the video is the Northside
A priceless glimpse of recent history, I haven`t been there for many years, but my heart belongs in Cork.

@StarDust thank you! Any chance you know who sang this version ?
The dying rebel
Looking for who's singing it myself
That video was made by James O'Brien. The original is in the archives in Cork.
That accordion should be fucket into the sea...
It should be titled "A little bit of Patrick Street and all the North Side" The South Side doesn't get a mention, our beautiful Lough.
Fuck it would be nice to watch all of this, I lasted 2 minutes with the stupid fucking music

40 years later Cork shitty is still the same. A dump.
It’s a great little city...you just don’t know where to look. Loooove cork
Great old city. Be even nicer if the tans didn't burn it down in 1920. They pumped money into rebuilding Dublin but not so much cork. 👍🍀
No it's not. It's much better now.
Not much changed except that streets were cleaner then
Cork 2020 50% foreign nationals
Yep... Soon it be 100%
I am from Croatia but live and work in Cork for almost two years. Love it one of the best citys and people here are so nice.
As opposed to the 80s when most people were leaving.
