Pitching Speeds 40 - 100 mph
#baseball #pitching
Disclaimer some pitches move unrealistically. This is only to demonstrate the time the ball takes to reach Homeplate.

    one trick to hitting balls in the upper speed range is that you have to start your weight shift before the ball is released from their hand.

    like a 1/3 of a second to adjust to 100 mph fast ball, it's mostly a guessing game, will it be any of the various pitches thrown and decide which one in a fraction of a second,

    This explains why like a third of all current MLB at-bats end in strikeouts these days. Many more pitchers now can throw 90, 95, 100 mph. Some are now hitting 102 to 105 mph.

    I remember getting in one of those batting cages at an Espn Zone and you could select from different mlb pitchers. I chose Verlander & i think it was set to 90mph or close. The loud pop of the ball hitting the wall mat behind me followed by the swish of my bat followed by laughter from my friends.

    i would say this is actually under representing it. as someone who is involved in training both pitchers and catchers, the velocity simulation you have from 70-100 is significantly slower than real life perception. Your 100 is more like a real 85mph. Go stand behind a catcher with a pitcher throwing upper 80's and then watch this again.

    Unless you’ve stood in the batters box and faced live pitching, you can’t appreciate how difficult it is to make solid contact. Throw in a curveball or a change up, then a fastball looks even faster.

    That’s why hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports. It’s the only sport where a 30% success rate could put you in the HOF.

    This is really good for helping people understand at a basic level. Even if it doesn't actually represent the true speed of a pitch because the horizontal velocity by a slower pitch will be greater then that of a faster pitch. This leads to a 40mph pitch being even slower relative to a 100mph than indicated here. But could you possibly alter the animation to include the most efficient arch for each ball speed?

    As a hitter who had the “lucky” chance to face 101mph in a game, in my experience, 100 and 92 look almost identical to the eyes, however, when swinging at 100, I felt like my hands were so slow, like suddenly my bat speed disappeared

    • @blueguppy9321

    90mph is 132 ft/sec. The rubber is 60.5' away. That means from the rubber to the plate takes only 0.4583 seconds. At 95mph, that is 139.333 ft/sec and only 0.4342 sec. 100mph, 146.6667 ft/sec, 0.4132 sec.

    • @hanklevesque426

    as a baseball player this looks so much slower than it does when ur in the box

    • @squallrulz20
      @squallrulz20 4 місяці тому

      This is likely faster than in the box since the ball is sustaining speed instead of losing it and has no arc. The reason why it feels slow is because there is no vertical movement to account for. If you throw two objects with the same horizontal velocity but one flat and one in an arc, the one with the arc has a greater total velocity due to vertical movement.
