The stock market can appear as a bewildering cauldron of fake news for new investors. I would advise using a CFP, giving him/her 2/3, and then investing the 1/3 on your own, but only if you have time to track stocks and educate yourself.

There's a risk depending on growth stocks for your emergency funds. You rightly pointed out that there's an issue during market crashes, which ETFs are not immune to. If your emergency coincides with a big market crash, you'll be forced to liquidate at a bad price. Something to consider could be to stow a portion of your emergency funds in a low interest rate bank account or equivalent instead. You do need to work out the math on whether that makes sense for you, since i know you are trying to grow your portfolio as fast as possible.

However, the main focus for markets now is Nvidia, which has powered a large chunk of the S&P 500’s recent earnings. Nvidia’s stock, up more than 90% this year, rose 2.5% in New York on Monday, sending the Nasdaq 100 index to another record high. If you had zero in the stock portfolio right now, what would you do? Would you still buy into the banks and ETFs at this current stage? I just turned 26. I have a stock portfolio pretty sizable but it is heavily US. I had moved my Singapore stock portfolio over to properties overseas, kinda regret it due to the foreign exchange drop. I do make quite a substantial monthly income from my job now, about $45-60k/mth, which fluctuates due to the majority coming from the commission. I roughly save 50% of it, and the rest goes to my US stock portfolio and lifestyle expenses. I want to reignite a dividend portfolio but looking at the bank's current prices, they are miles above when I bought them during the covid crash. Do you find them overvalued at the moment?

awesome work. Starting young gives you the power of compounding. I would however, encourage you to focus on your day job in order to maximise your earned income while you are still young. That would give you the firepower to invest over the next 10-15 years, including growing your CPF, to supercharge your passive cashflow. Don't aim to retire so early at 28yo, but aim to have the flexibility to retire after 28, while focus on your skills at main job to earn more to feed your investment, as well as allow you to have some buffer to pay for experiences that you can enjoy at your age. While the comfort of having a safety net (passive income) is desirable, it can also end up creating a conservative self imposed limit on your earning potential, which will get eroded with age. Regardless, awesome work at this age. I have friends who are double your age and have no idea how to invest lol.

keep in mind you can't just happily decide to move permanently to another country. you need the right visas which usually involve being a skilled worker there, or being rich enough to buy property or outright buy a 'right to live indefinitely' type of visa or a permanent residency status. people try to use tourist visas and go in and out of the country repeatedly to 'renew' the visa when its about to expire, but that is not a foolproof method and the immigration can just decide to deny you entry because you are clearly not a tourist, and you are screwed.

I used to have the same “philosophy” as you, thinking that aiming for an early “retirement” is going to be the holy grail or that this freedom will bring me the happiness I seek. In fact , I realize now that boxing yourself up in this path only deprives the potential and experiences of your growth both in life and in experiences. Why do you need to retire at 26?

Doesn't the financial freedom grant you the potential for even greater experiences in life. After all im only doing this for a few years!

@@AaronSurvivinginSingapore there’s a lot you don’t experience in life if you limit the paths ahead due to financial constraint. In your 20s, the best thing you can do is to be limitless, try as many things , make as many mistakes. The only regret most people have at an older age is not having enough great relationships and not trying more things. Since you like research, go look out how people who have reached Fire early all start regretting if. I.e - lean fire is severely over rated. I’ve been down your path . Hit a million at 27, thought about “retiring” . Man it’s so fcking boring. Number is just a number. What keeps you alive is living life and growing. Don’t box yourself up in this fire mindset man. Freedom is a state of mind, not optimizing a spreadsheet. Within 5 years from now, I’m pretty sure you’ll see this differently.
