    For dumping the excess power, Robert Murray Smith on YT shows how to use resistive wire to create a thermal sand battery. With the temperatures there during the cold, it could come in handy and not be wasted as you rightly concerned about. Great information you have given.

    man, the rule is simple: the bigger the windwheel diameter - the lower rotation speed. the lower rotation speed - the less noise. pick the turbine with 3 or 3.5, or even better 4 m in wind wheel diameter - that one will be worth it in all aspects: production, little noise, nice looks, and overall effectiveness.

    I would dump from the turbine You can put a separate three-phase rectifier in line and use the output from this to run the dump load and use the controller/ rec setup to change your battery bank with a over voltage dump load ,as soon as you start dumping from the separate rectifier the current going to the the battery bank will be reduced according to the strength of the dump load running from the separate rectifier. Try putting two and a half raps of insulation tape on top of each other round the tip of each blade to stop the whistling noise

Yesterday i received my shipment of 1 16kg and 2 32kg turbine package 📦 Still didn't try cz i might be selling it tomorrow . We can communicate more threw whatsup or make a group there to help each other with information and maybe i could give a good selling price from china factory 🏭. Keep in touch .

    Looking good, did you need to go down the route of a home manager, or did the SMA webconnect do that all. Do you use Bluetooth for the Sunny boys, or ethernet card?? I think you could achieve 85% off grid supply, with the number of panels. A bit more detail on the ATS would be great.

      Hi Ivan. went down the data manger route as was unable to find a used web box. I did look at the home manger but the data manger will take 50 inputs. the new sunny boy and sunny islands are Bluetooth and Ethernet. the two old sunny boys have the rs485 card and connected to the data manger . hope I can top more than 85% but it will be fun seeing the numbers. I will try and get some info on the ATS cheers.

      @@twistedtube1310 thanks for the reply, awesome, videos, can only dream of having 50 inverters all on one setup would be great to see that production. You could always add more solar in parallel keep the same volts, but increase the watts, the production problem is always in winter, that way you don't need anymore inverters. I would think that appx 12Kw of solar will be more than enough for battery charging and usage in summer, but could be a bit light in winter. I'm getting more questions about grid connection on my channel, with higher self consumption, and there is so much confusion around the ATS, think this would really help. Thanks again Ivan

You are definitely right summer solar production is not the problem it’s the winter. My biggest problem is I have a heat pump. And the company that I went with back in 2008 were a new company. They have massively change the way the system works now . So I need to sort this out and get it to be more energy efficient. Need to find a way to dump my excess energy into my water. And other ways . Still trying to work the ATS out need a way to make the contact to trigger on the generator side went power goes down.

Hit a new all time high in the storm today 2415w out of my little wind turbines, should only be capable of 1700w, looking at 10Kwh today. Have a look a Peacefair enegy DC meters, for a basic meter with display they are great for data storage. Did you manage to get your other turbine up?? I'll be doing a video on data integration, you can see on my vids just completing it. Works with SMA home assistant too. Just a thought of my head you could use the load shedding or dump additional load off the SMA inverter relays to control an AC extra load. You can combine these with Sonoff wireless relays to control loads like heaters etc. Good luck and keep up the superb work.

    We've just moved into our new home which is small farm (6 acres). Needles to say, with electricity prices in the UK increasing to stupid levels, the subject of wind turbines is now my new obsession. I'm about to pull the trigger on my first ever purchase. I've found UK based information limited or confusing whereas the guys in the USA have lots of suppliers and a more established market. I'm finding it difficult to source a decent affordable turbine (say sub £10,000) which kicks out a nominal rated 1000-2000w at slow to medium wind speeds. I'd ideally like to go vertical axis if I can locate the right hardware. Can you please link to the turbin kits and this UK off grid chap you mentioned, I don't think it's in the info yet.

I bought one of the Sun grid tie inverters that has a battery discharge, what this does is when your battery needs to dump it does so through the inverter so the power gets passed to the grid. you can set the amount of power you want to draw and the battery start and cut off voltages.

    Excellent video and install work. I’m looking forward to your update on using the system with grid connection. Is your plan to use it to move excess power to the grid? I want to use the grid connection only as a backup, similar to what my generator is doing now but not to move power to the grid. So when battery state of charge drops below let’s say 20% I will connect to grid to charge the batteries up to let’s say 40% and then disconnect the grid. I will also have setting that allows back feeding the grid off. I’m curious when you have the back feeding on, how do the sunny islands control the solar inverters (we know that in off grid mode it is by frequency) when the batteries are full? Do you think it will just leave the panels on and send the excess power to the grid or do you think it will disconnect the grid and then let the sunny islands shift frequency up to dial down the sunny boys output?

    • @twistedtube1310

      Hello and thanks for stopping by, we’ll on grid as not worked at the minute for me. I am going to do an update on the setup in the next day or two. so I am setup as off grid at the minute. There is a lot more to the on grid setup than I thought and for us in the uk it gets right complicated. I think I will do a video on this two. it will hopefully work out better and just maybe some other people will be able to shine some light. the new sunny island are two complex but I do hope to get to the bottom of it. sorry I didn’t answers your question but not to good at reading and writing. so I will try a video and hopefully answers questions. thanks again.

      Hi Curionsum, just going to respond to your first comment. as my computer has crashed and my last video has been deleted. and I’ve got 2 weeks straight work. my plan is to use all my power myself and not dump down the grid at all. I also only want to use the grid as back power and set the battery soc. for grid connection. in the Uk we have to have a disconnect switch to isolate from the grid if the grid goes down. at the moment I can get the discount to work but not the ATS. so I lose PE connection and that’s what the sunny boys are looking for. so I need to sort that out. I did find a off grid pdf. on the Sma web sit that spoke about off grid with grid connection if your able to find it hope this helps.

    • @offgriduk2643
      @offgriduk2643 2 роки тому

      Hi, not to high jack another mans post, i run SMA sunny islands in off grid mode, as so, use frequency shifting for power production at the sunny boy solar inverters. For grid connection, when you have sunny islands, the "feed in" is programmed at the home manger to talk to the sunny boys to ramp production down. If i remember correctly, you can select an amount of power you wish to export. If you are connected to the grid and don't have the original "home manager" 1, that can have 3 separate meters, or an additional SMA meter for measuring "feed in" for excess energy, it will be very hard to use the excess energy. 1 way would be to use the contact programmable relay inside the sunny island to turn extra devices in the home on or off, you can program, SOC of the batteries, or there is a setting for lead acid batteries to trigger the relay for excess voltage. I would go the route of load shedding on the relay based on SOC of the batteries to turn a device on and off at 90%, this mean i can leave the feed in set to off and the home manager. Hope this helps. Ivan

      @@twistedtube1310 we have -10 versions here in US. I see that the -13 has Ethernet and speed wire much like the sunny boy solar inverters. Look forward to your video

    Do you think that raptor paint would be any good in the chassis of a leyland roadrunner to protect against corrosion?

    • @twistedtube1310
      @twistedtube1310 4 роки тому

      I have spray a lot of chassis in my time . if the chassis is clean and free of lose paint . then you will be in a good place to use Raptor. because it has a hardner in it . it’s a lot better than normal under coat. you can use raptor and then top coat if you won’t to. but I don’t think it is necessary. the raptor will give you good coverage and protection. if I can help with any other things just let me no. cheers and stay safe.
