I think I can do on myself but I would first soak rubber bands in oil to protect my hair!!❤

I tried this method, worked well in the front, but the back was not as neat!!! I cant grip or add hair, so this method works.

I think the rubber band method is a waste of time cause I did it a few times and each time the braids were giving loosy goosy. Not only is it time consuming, you cant wear the style as long as you would actually braiding it in. And lord forbid if the rubber band pops, then its going to be bulky at the base for no reason. I think this is a style someone came up with just to have something to put on youtube (not you i mean the first person whoever posted this style)

I agree it takes FOREVER if your doing it yourself but try to put the hairband on first and then use a crochet needle to pull the extra hair through and then tighten easily and then continue as you did here. Still takes a little while but I think it’s still faster
