Lex isn't wrong though. Superman if he does lose control becomes a major threat and has shown examples of this. It really simplifies their relationship while also blatantly explaining the reason behind Luthor's contempt for Superman.

The fact that they took some goofy elements like "Lex's evil niece Nasthalia 'Nasty' Luthor" and played it straight, and pulled it off, really says something about how much tone matters.

Personally, I would've preferred if Lex was characterized as a "moral sociopath." If Lex was shown off as a sociopath with zero empathy but intense introspection that allowed him to independently come to the conclusion of effective altruism being a winning strategy(good through selfishness) AND the philosophy of ego death(truly selfless morality, helping others purely because it is righteous). That would make Lex thinking Superman was a monster in sheeps clothing super tragic. It'd be a moral sociopath projecting his fears of what he could become onto superman.

I remember an old Pre-Crisis story in which Superboy went back in time to save Abraham Lincoln. However, he runs into adult Lex Luthor, who freezes him with Red Kryptonite. Lex had used his time-travel technology to escape the adult Superman and wonders why Superboy is in the past. After toying around with the helpless Superboy for a while, he hears a commotion outside his hotel room and realizes that the date was April 14, 1865 and he was across the street from Ford's Theater, where Abraham Lincoln was shot. To his horror, he realizes that he had prevented Superboy from saving Lincoln. He leaves for the future with the following guilty thoughts, *Why did fate choose me to prevent Superboy from saving the life of Lincoln, a great man? I'm responsible for many crimes, but this is the worst of all! Lincoln's blood is on my hands...!*

I like how lex, in his finale moments of life, realizes that superman, his arch nemesis, is right and he is wrong.

Seems like a complete waste of 5 years, tbh. Imagine if you had spent that time doing something useful like feeding and housing the unhoused or working with disadvantaged kids. Instead you've opted to devote your life to what is apparently Zelda fan fiction 🙄

I'm not denying on lex luthor was an ecotistical maniac. But at the end when Superman's about to die. When he said you're right, Superman didn't just truly break. Lex he destroyed him, and now the way of physically or mentally, but he destroyed lex's ego. The same one that inspired. Lex to achieve all he had done but at the end of the day when it was finally broken Superman finally did what even lex didn't think was possible. He didn't just defeat him. He destroyed him.
