Thompson Falls Montana (Montana's Best Episode 22)
Thompson Falls is nestled along the historic Clark Fork River in northwestern Montana. The town was named after British explorer, geographer, and fur trapper David Thompson. He founded a trading post called the Saleesh House in 1809.
Over the years the mining, railroad, and lumber industry kept this small town thriving. Today's reality has different feel. Their local lumber mill is 1 of only 5 operating lumber mills left running in the state of Montana. This Sanders County town boosts a population of just under 1500 residents. As you enter this family friendly town you will be greeted by a series of locally owned mom and pop businesses. The natural beauty that surrounds its local attraction is refreshing. If you love the outdoors, small town charm, and river activities Thompson Falls will prove to be a place to hang your hat for a few days.
The historic Old Jail Museum is just a quick turn off of Main Street. It was the first jail house built in Thompson Falls. We highly encourage you to go and visit Sanders Country Historical Society volunteers and staff who will dazzle your imagination with the stories the building holds. You will witness intact artifacts and authentic antiques. You will get to have the opportunity to see what glasses, jewelry, grooming kits, clothing, beadwork, firearms, and cameras looked like over 100 years ago. The informative staff still use the original keys to show visitors the jail house. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
Just a hop skip and jump is Island Park that will lead you to the historical High Bridge, which is 588 feet long and 80 feet high, and was originally constructed in 1911. It hovers over the Clark Fork River just down the way of the Thompson Falls Hydroelectric Dam. The dam was built in 1915 over a set of natural waterfalls on the river. Island Park is a great place to stop and stretch your legs.
A short 5 minute drive from downtown you will come upon the Thompson Falls State Park. This 36 acre campground hosts 18 campsites. Whether you are looking to camp or just visit the campsite you will enjoy the scenic Clark Fork River as well as well maintained grounds. Come with our host Julie Mac to explore and inside look of Thompson Falls, MT.

At 6;42: Huckleberries definitely grow outside Montana and Idaho. Maybe she is thinking that the huckleberry is the state fruit of Idaho and Montana. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huckleberry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccinium_membranaceum .

Triceratops my ass. Where's the rest of it. Where's all these excavation videos of these dinosaur bones and how come they can only find pieces and not the whole damn skeleton. Look up excavation of a triceratops. Won't find nothing. Look up excavation of a Stegosaurus. You won't find nothing. But y'all have all these entire skeletons with no video proof of the excavation of each certain skeleton that they find. Dude picked up a piece of rock and said it was a tooth. Well if you believe that I got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. There's tons of video footage of them finding mummies in the valley of the Kings so why not video footage of them finding these dinosaur skeletons.

@@MontanaCountryBoy406 They dug up peoples yards and did a huge cleanup for years in Libby so I think it's safe, but I would have any house inspected for asbestos before I would buy it. Personally I wouldn't want to live in Libby. It also has an inversion problem resulting in poor air quality in winter.

Chico is a going concern these days. Livingston has been discovered. Back in the mid/ early 1960s, Chico was just a shadow of its former glory. The plunge was the main attraction and the bar and a delicious burger. Then the whole place changed hands, the new owners saw the times changing for a money making investment. The rest is history. One can bring their camper/trailer there for a healthy fee and relax for a week or two. BTW, the plunge was covered until the roof collapsed in 1957, never to be replaced. A lot of fun being in the hot water during a blizzard in the winter. 😅
