Timecode run from Winamp into 2 cue stacks totaling 59 cues.
Audio used: 2WEI - Smoke on the Water
Rules were:
Select a 1-3 minute song of your choice and program the lights using MagicQ with MagicVis visualization.
Record your entry via screen capture and send along with your show file, your name and mailing address Chamsys by Nov 8th 2019.
Top 3 entries were notified and given the opportunity to playback their entry live at LDI on Nov 23rd at the CHAUVET Professional booth.
TOP 3 ENTRIES won a 2 night hotel stay in Las Vegas, show entry and flight to LDI (from inside the US only).
No modification to the vis, room, fixtures or patch allowed

I losses my all cues 😔... Reason i don't know????
1:04:30 how is the extra fader configured and is it a chamsys product?
how viable is learning chamsys in todays day and age is it as valuable at GMA2/3?
Lots
FIRST!! Can you explain what is an Art-Net?
thanks bro
this is sick!!
Cool video! I wonder what you could do if the rig was pre patched and vised and all you had to do was truly make the show file
Can't take this in, just not getting information across.
So I setup my show on sight but now when I wanted to edit and make changes at home on visualizer, after setting up my stage, for some reason, the lights do not match the positions live, for example, if I have certain lights pointing straight out when I line them up in the visualizer, and then change the scene, they do not point in the same direction that the light point in life does anyone know the reason for this like I cannot tell which way the screen on the lights is in the visualizer
Crazy how you did this in just magic vis. I know Collyns would be impressed
thx for the video!! I think is one of the most complete tutorials of this software, I'll watch the rest of the parts
how u put visualiser in corner there ?
Hi Matt, how can get in touch with you please?
Hi matt
i know its for lower class lighting designers... BUT Chamsys QuickQ doesnt have anyone to help people walk threw that board. could give some good views.
well the offline editor is available to download and program on, the manual gives you the basics from which to start experimenting on.
How can I use a simple effects like sinewave on a channel of my choice. Only options for me are R, G, B, or Intensity, but I want it on the zoom channel
hi bro, can you teach me how to use and program my chamsys magicq mq60...thank you
Do you have Some showfilles that you can send me I Mean like the viseleaer I dont have the pasint for it
Hey matt, is there a way to copy your color palettes into an exec page for a fixture, set the region for the group and then have them not be placed into the programmer when using the palettes?
Yup, there's a bunch of tutorials on "soft palettes" about this. Real quick: Select all fixtures/groups and record a new color palette. Select palette>vieuw palette>unlink palette. Now call this palette something like "variable color". Copy your fixture/group, this new variable color and all the colors you want to use to your exec. Put them in a region. Now, change the button type of your variable color and make it a soft link. Any programming where the color is included in the programmer, make sure it's set to your variable color palette. Now you can change colors from the exec page, bypassing the programmer. Hope this helps!
Hi Matt. As I am new in this business, your work is overwhelming me. I am trying to do my fx page but there is something that i don't understand. This page does not store positions and intensity for a movement fx(let's say that fx is aplied on a specific position). If it is a intensity fx it does. What am I mising? Is there a setting to make or this is how it works? How did you make the 2 shutter fx? Thanks a lot. I admire your work.
Great Video !!!
About an hour in I'm wondering where the performer is going to be
I think it would be Much more intuitive if they would allow you to select an axis, then drag the fixture to the approximate position, then type the fine-tuned adjustment. At least on the PC software, if not on console too.
Great video. Just about to start part 2 today. I’m programming a show for work (I’m an automation guy way more than lighting and this is a great fresh challenge) The one issue I have had has been my Coloradosolo2 I’ve had to change the mode several times in order to be able to create RGB or CMY pallets. Everytime I load my showtime it resets to HSI. I’m guessing this is a bug in magicq maybe. Also I’m using a mini fader wing but I also have a quick q 20 desk. Do you know if I could export the show files once finished in order to work on a quick q? Again loved the video. 100% subscribed
MagicQ showfiles can be used on the QuickQ desks no problem. You just load it up just like any other show. I don't know the ColoradoSolo 2 light, but i have just looked at the personalities. Is it the patched light that is changing mode back to HSI when you reopen the show? Or the colour mode in the Colour window that resets to HSI? And is this on the latest stable version 1.8.9.0?
How do we toggle between the 3D and the wire frame view of MagicVis?
In the vis select Free View from the top toolbar. Or it's also in the 3D View menu tab.
name of the visualiser please
Name of the visualizer is WYSIWYG cast-soft.com/wysiwyg-lighting-design/
@@MattBlake39 thank you
it's so beautiful
1 - great video. 2 - how do you default to all your play/pause buttons to automatically read the exec page? 3 - why do you unlink your palettes?
0 - sorry for the delay 1 - thank you very much 2 - In setup > playback > third last row, playback go/pause use exec grid 1 set to yes. This will do it for all 10 playbacks. Or you can do it individually for a cuestack > Check cue stack options for the cue with play pause that you want to assign to execute buttons > on the buttons tab there are options, go uses exec grid 1 and pause uses exec grid 1. Those will do the same thing on an individual basis. 3 - I rarely keep palettes linked because in the past it has usually led to unexpected things happening. I would do some troubleshooting and figure out it was due to a palette changing or being renamed and it just adds more potential problems. Some palettes i will keep linked intentionally.
where did you get all the fx from?
We want to make a change of color from outside to inside symmetrically in an unpaired group and in case this number of heads increases or decreases during the tour, the visible effect is not harmed ... One option is to do it with this one-shot FX ... but how to make it so that there is only one loaf? (from what I am in the COL, POS or BEAM palette that I determine) Thank you so much!
Greetimgs.......Im beginner, I just get my PC Wing Chamsys, how you can reach the camera function?
Not bad, but looking at the Visualiser, whilst you are doing something on the console with the blinders was not helpful. We have no idea what you did or how you set them up. As an educator rough set of notes and possibly showing a copy of you mud map of the rig would have helped.
nice.
great tutorial on the math in visualiser.was very helpfull. Although you spent a lot of time positioning heads .instead use fit to object and auto arrange? a lot of the popups you were clicking on wasnt showing in stream.
I really appreciate the good bits of knowledge in this video and the idea behind it, but to watch you decide on numbers for 10 min.. seriously? It would have been an amazing video if you knew what you were doing to begin with or just given us snapshots of final numbers for geeks like me who were trying to do the same stuff on my pc console.
Definitely agree with you it's not great content. That's what happens when it's an upload of a live stream, it wasn't made originally to be succinct, I was just chillin and streaming. The chapters are in there for you to jump around and not worry about missing too much
can I have the chamsys file
Hi Matt! Loving the videos you’re making, im relatively new in programming shows and i have a question i cant find an answer to. When testing different heads i use the visualiser and a straight truss with the lights i will be using in a show that ive set up in our warehouse. Lets say its a back truss. When first patching the heads the visualizer puts the heads towards the audience. So the default position palette’s «down» position, makes the lights tilt towards the audience. The physical lights on the other hand in the «down» position points to the right.(i usually mount heads with the menu screen and buttons towards the audience) My normal fix for this is to rotate all the lights in the visualizer 90 degrees, but im wondering what you do to match the physical rig to the premade show in the visualiser. Do you for example mount the lights as the visualizer shows you? Or is there a way to change the default position in the visualizer? Im wondering because you are so efficient at patching and placing heads, but if i were to try the same i would have to plug in a head to see if it matches the visualiser before programming. Hopefully you understand what im trying to say:) thx for your time and amazing content
Thanks for all the kind words! I think I understand your question. My way of setting lights positions is pretty consistent. I will locate the lights, then give them a positive tilt value and will want them to be pointing out towards the audience. If they are tilting out to the left or right I'll add in a pan offset of 90 degrees in the patch view heads window. The pan offset does affect the Vis, so once I've got everything pan/tilting the way I want in real life I'll rotate the fixtures in the patch view Vis window to match real life. So yeah I basically just rotate heads in the Vis to match real life, and apply pan offset if needed, cos screens facing forward is the way to go, none of that side screen ugly side cable nonsense. 😄😄
Thank you so much for answering! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this, this came in very handy as a beginner tutorial. Just seeing how to get started and what every button click is and saying it out loud as you go was super useful.
Glad I could help!
Hi! Matt, thanks for your videos. I have one question in 21:57, I put the dim chase but it don¡t change the head, I see all heads together, any idea what I doing wrong? I punt the same things like you. It could be the old render visualizer? Thank you
Check spread is not at 0, or maybe did you add a group FX or just a standard FX? If you've added a group FX you just need to set the Group's column to either 'all chans' or 'within group'. You can double check the programming by checking your outputs page and seeing if the strobes are going from 0 to 100% in a chase or all together.
@@MattBlake39 I select Atomic in the Group section on Layer 1 and then click in Add FX. Thank you for your answer :) I am starting to making my own show on Chamys, I hope I could get a good level!
Do you have a day job?
Well, freelance lighting designer and tech, been a bit quiet lately though, I think something is affecting the industry, no idea what it could be
@@MattBlake39 Sorry I meant more like do you work full time for a production or rental house or design firm. Wasn't trying to be shitty given the state of the world.
Nah I'm not tied down to a company, just enjoy the freedom of riding solo. And all good my man!
@@AVLbyNexus Drop me an email or insta message (mattblake39) or something so i can help you with MagicHD. I've got it sorted on my end
@@MattBlake39 chrisw@lsavl.com thanks, man I appreciate it. Couldn’t get it figured out at the shop today but I’ve never used MagicHD before. But right off the bat, it might just be a network thing. I was running pangolin beyond to control some lasers from the same laptop over the same network. But nothing jumped out at me about artnet conflicts and it did say it was connected.
I really like your videos🤟💪 But you have to stop eating and drinking in the microphone😅
Haha, thanks I'll make an effort not to
Are you on stable or beta
Beta, I normally use Beta for the bug fixes and try to avoid using the new features until they are in a stable release
Sickkkkk!
thanks for th tutorial. How can use color (palette)and intensität atribute at the same fx?
Sorry for the super late reply, some shit went down with me. If I understand you correct you can add multiple fx to the same heads. Select your heads, add fx, dimmer chase (or whatever dimmer fx you want), then add fx, 2 col (or whatever col palette fx you want)
Hi Matt. I have been discovered your videos and I want to thank you for the information. Although the videos are longer than the regular tutorials, you give us the chance to see programing and not only some explanation about some parts of the console. Keep up with the good work. Now I can connect all that I have seen till now and learn more from you. Thanks a lot. Best regards, Phoebe.
Thanks for the kind words! I'd like to make some shorter videos at some point, but need to find an interesting angle
Hey Matt, learning a lot from this video, thanks for sharing! I'm really new to all of this, but curious how you were able to get the visualizer embedded in the software instead of as a separate window? I haven't been able to find a way of setting things up like this.
So that's not actually not what my magicq window looks like on my screen. My Vis is on a second monitor and I'm just overlaying it into the corner using the OBS streaming software. Glad to hear it must be looking slick though.
Other option is you can click the button middle right called "Vis" and it'll open a window in the main window area for the vis
@@MattBlake39 Got it, thanks!
