      @mia.eklund94 that's fine but you can't generalize an entire country of of a few cities you have been to that would be like us coming to your country seeing the red light district and telling the world that's what your whole country is about or not even seeing your country and using history of the world wars to say that's what your country is because for us that don't go to your country and all we know is history then we are able to say this is how it is because that's all I've seen of it you can't use an opinion and say this is definitely how things are and say it's a fact

    It's hard to give this video a pass though honesty and candidness are appreciated tact and thoughtfulness are important too. I did watch your positives video before I commented but it just made your comments here more puzzling. A lot of people recommend doing some homework before visiting a different country and I think it may have helped you here. The thing is I don't even disagree with all the conclusions of your observations but some of them come off as stuck up and uninformed. Saying its racist here is a big red flag, I don't shy away from political takes but get some nuance before you make such a statement. Segregation is also a loaded word, there are plenty of diverse communities rich, poor, and in-between. There are neighborhoods with homogeneous demographics but to throw around the word racism begs the question who, what, and where are you refering to? I challenge you to reverse your comments and picture how it would sound if someone made those statements about your country with little context, and a limited perspective. You'd get anything from eye rolls to actual hate. I believe most Americans love foreigners, but if you're going to swim in murky waters get acquainted with the fish.

  • @epicgamertool
    @epicgamertool 14 годин тому

    There is only one point I’d like to make, and that’s about the “segregation.” The places you are talking about where there isn’t much variety of the races is not segregation, nor is it an economic issue (it can be though). Places like “Chinatown’s” “Little Italy’s” etc. are not the product of racism, but that of other cultures bringing in their customs and traditions to build a community. I can speak for everyone (at least I think) that we love these places because you can take part of your own culture without any problems. Americans and foreigners alike are proud and grateful places like this can exist in the US. This is coming from a first generation American. 🇺🇸

    A few issues: -there are 1.2 MILLION homeless people in Germany. In the USA, only about 650,000. Europe has a higher population and therefore more homeless. -We are the most racially diverse country in the world, by a wide margin. Everyone wants to come here. It's pretty normal that people want to live among others to whom they can relate.....but you'll find a lot more racism in "red states" that like Trump. New York City is far from racist, San Francisco and Los Angeles are far from racist. -Expenses, our salaries are higher. Median household incomes: USA: 70k (63k euros) California: 90k (81k euros) Silicon Valley (my area where I grew up and still live): 153k (137k euros) Germany: about 50k (50,250 euros) So, that's your answer on how can we live with higher prices. They are higher because we have more buying power. I would imagine home prices are quite a bit higher here. Here in Silicon Valley, the median home price is 1.7 million dollars (1.5 million euros). So we are the more desirable place. Obesity, Germany is not much lower than California. Our rate in California is 27%, Germany 24%. Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley) is only 18%. Obesity is a good problem to have; it means your people have access to a lot of food and don't have to work physical jobs for a living. But individuals need to choose to exercise; in a free country, the government cannot force that upon them. Food quality....there are 13 restaurants in the USA that have achieved Three Michelin Stars (we are tied with Italy for 4th in the world). In Germany, only 10.

    Our country is just as big as Europe where you have 8-9 different country's next to each other, with different languages, cultures, and customs. We have a "melting pot" of all those individual cultures here and they are mixed and living together. Yes, we have problems but show me one country in Europe who doesn't. Your generalizations, prejudices and pre-conceived notions only show how little you know or understand our culture. A lot of things you mentioned are politically related and you dint know enough about us to form an informed opinion.

    Your comments are sweeping generalizations and without nuance. And, without telling us where you visited, your comments are pretty useless. It’s a big, varied country. And if you were largely in tourist areas, of course it will be expensive, just as it is in Europe.

    You really should have published this video BEFORE your negative video. I learned about your channel by watching a reaction video on another channel and I came to your website specifically to tell you what I thought of your observations and criticisms. THEN I saw this video and decided to watch it first, and that changed my perspective about you. Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but you should always begin with the positives BEFORE you share your negatives, otherwise we're just left wondering why you bothered coming to the USA in the first place and hoping you'll never return. Perhaps Europeans are accustomed to starting off with criticism, but if you truly want to build your audience in the USA, you need to start with the positives.

    You just went to LA. Typical European destination 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Go to upstate New York. Yes there’s an upstate. New York is more than nyc. So go there and you will see farms farmers market and mixed neighborhoods. Also, if you want to see people in fancy clothes. Go to Beverley hills that’s where most people are. For the drugs. We have laws in almost every state and county. For the clothing. It’s not a competition to see who can wear the fanciest. It’s all about if you feel good enough to wear all day. So go to more places that you never heard of. For the portion sizes: there something called left overs. So that you have some more food for tomorrow or later in the week. Also only time you see plastic silverware is mainly at food trucks and fast food. Every other restaurant has metal silverware. Before you go and talk lies to the internet. F

    Interesting I never heard you mention guns. Other European youtubers almost always say something about guns. You are right about the wastefulness in this country. We need to do more recycling. Once when I was in Berlin, I threw a plastic bottle in the wrong bin and felt like an asshole for doing it so I dug through the trash to find it and put it in the right bin. lol I like your video's keep up the good work. You forgot that you can go to the bathroom in the US for free. It is such pain in Europe to have to pay for the facilities. Sometimes when we have been in Europe, we have to buy a drink (water or coffee, usually), so we can use their bathroom, which, of course, means you're going to have to go to the bathroom again pretty soon. LOL

    • @mia.eklund94

    When in Munich, I was shocked at the unfriendliness and coldness of the people. I was told that most Europeans are not very outgoing and tend to be very stiff and overly formal, especially in Germany. Also, I was shocked at the lack of restaurant diversity. All restaurants had, basically, the same items on their menus. I found it to be a very bland country.

      Yes we European are much more reserved and do lot do any small talk with strangers, it’s just cultural. Living in Germany I can confirm that’s how it is. I’d disagree with restaurant diversity tho. If you’re in the central area then maybe as they cater mostly for tourists, but there’s lots of nice places with cuisines from all over the world.

California has six of those restaurants, five of them in my area, the San Francisco Bay Area. 🙂 Fair to say that San Francisco is one of the great culinary centers of the world, and centers of culture in general. 🙂 (of course, the number of restaurants that are on the Michelin List without being good enough to have a star, and the number of ones with only one star, is much higher in both countries.)

    As an introvert, I frankly used to dislike small talk when I was younger but now I don’t mind it & enjoy it even. It takes some practice but I’ve found it can really improve my mood, maybe help someone else’s mood, or even learn something new. I much prefer it over the “everybody minds their own business” or unfriendliness which I have experienced. Imo there is no such thing as small talk, only small minds.

Does it come from being immersed in a culture with an authoritarian mindset? That is to say just because you saw a lot of people wearing casual clothes it must mean that casual dress is somehow mandated by law? Because that would be utterly ridiculous. This is America. You wear whatever you want when you go out. Whatever makes you feel comfortable, happy, prideful in your looks, etc. Nobody forces you to dress casual. Up until I retired, I wore dress pants, a crisply ironed dress shirt and necktie with shiny leather shoes every single day of my life for 37 years to work and to dinner, no matter where that was. The taste of drinking water varies from location to location. Some water has a high dissolved mineral content. You get used to a certain taste and everything else tastes a little "off". But all public water systems in the USA have to meet certain standards, so even though you may not think it tastes as good as what you are familiar with, it is safe. I think a lot of foreigners think that people are only nice because they are trying to get a bigger tip. That may be true to some degree with restaurant staff, but nobody else in customer service gets tips and they all act nice. Nice is just how the vast majority of American's act. I lived in Germany for 3 years and traveled all over Europe on vacations. I don't have anything negative to say about Germany. Some things are going to be different, as it is a different culture, but it's up to the traveler to adapt to the country that he/she is in.

    I think in general you are very accurate with this. Sadly America does have a lot of problems. As some others have mentioned though, things can differ a lot based on region, or even cities within regions. Sometimes it's not even the most obvious stuff. One might think larger cities would have a greater focus on recycling for instance, but a city like Chicago is far worse on recycling than a lot of smaller cities I've lived in throughout Michigan. It doesn't always make much sense. I've enjoyed your videos. Happy you took the time to visit a part of America not always traveled by tourists!

    I know you understand that Germany as you live it would not exist if not for America. You prattle on about segregation and racism in America, which most Americans do not deny, and act as if it does not exist in Germany. Really? What you do not understand, apparently, is that America is a nation of immigrants. Immigrants to America come over in droves. Those immigrants seek out family and their own countrymen. When my ancestors immigrated from Italy, yes they were unwelcome, but they settled in neighborhoods were Italian immigrants predominated. I would never deny that America has a long terrible history of racism, but we are dealing with it. Don’t forget that German fellow with the bad mustache, cheered on by your parents and great-grandparents. The street where I live is diverse. Some Europeans, like yourself, are blind to their own problems. Race riots in the UK. Racially motivated attacks in Europe. Piss poor neighborhoods of immigrants in Germany, France, Spain, etc. Italy turns back African immigrants. So before throwing stones at America look around you. So you dear lady stick to your lederhosen and price gouging American tourists.
