Steps for Spelling

Follow these steps to spell on your dictation pages. Dictation means that I say a word or sentence, and you write it down on the sound and word lines. I include a bunch of examples here with different sounds and visual cues so you know how to approach any word. On your pages, you'll only have words with ONE target sound.

Steps for Decoding (reading words!)

Watch as I demonstrate how to decode some example words. This is helpful for longer words (2 syllables or more). You'll notice the 7 syllable types, as well as the 4 syllable division patterns. If you can, grab a pencil and paper so you can follow along! Write the words and do what I do.

At school, students borrowed books from me to read at home. I made sure everyone was reading just-right books mostly comfortable with somewhat of a challenge so you're growing as readers.
