wandering around tokyo neighborhoods during a hot hot weekend | japan 2024 vlog 5 I'm back in Tokyo again for a few days before we have to leave :(( I wasn't initially planning to come back for a whole weekend, but the opportunity to visit the EF Japan office came up, and I needed to come into the city earlier. So, I booked a capsule hotel (my first time trying one!) and sort of winged a solo w...

enjoying nostalgic routines back at my grandparents' house | japan 2024 vlog 4 We're back in Niigata, the prefecture where my family is from. This is where I spent most of my childhood summers, but It's been a while since I got to spend a whole week here. i'm going this upcoming spring and im...scared!! the dorm application is in about a week, and i watched your everything you need to know video, and im HEAVILY considering doing an off campus option. its my first time travelling alone...any tips?

    • @lynneguine
      @lynneguine 22 дні тому

      First of all, congrats! I think what I would recommend doing is to start looking at off-campus options that you'd be interested in. Would you prefer to find an AirBnB to stay in alone? A goshiwon? Would you look for roommates? Figure out what your plan would be IF you weren't to get into a dorm. If you have already found places/people that you'd like to stay at/with in the event that you don't dorm, start to arrange those options. I would still apply for on-campus housing, since you can always decide not to take it when/if the offer comes. You should have enough time from when you start looking to when you hear back about the dorms to figure out or even start booking your accommodation plans/preferences. As for traveling alone, I think you've picked a great country to start it in! My tips would be to save offline versions of Papago in Korean and English (or any other language you'd use), bookmark every possible location you'd be interested in visiting ahead of time, and to keep a portable battery with you at all times. Obviously, you should always be aware of your surroundings and study up on the language as much as possible, but generally speaking, I think if you have got translation and navigations apps on your phone with an extra charge on you, you'll always have the tools to help you stay cool and confident while traveling. Best of luck on your housing (it'll turn out okay, no matter what you end up doing) and I hope you have a great time in Korea this spring :))

      Thank you so much for watching! We went in late August (I think it was the 26th?) and I would say the temperature and humidity was perfectly mild. However, that was most likely because it was just as a typhoon was hitting southern Japan, and some of the rain was cooling everything down.

    did you need any specific information to book your arc appointment? like a korean phone number?

    • @lynneguine
      @lynneguine 4 місяці тому

      No, I didn't need a Korean number to reserve it! I'm not sure if it's changed in the past year, but last year, I was able to book it on the website while I was in the US, when I didn't have a Korean SIM card yet. I think you'll need your visa issued because it'll probably ask for your visa number and info, but I believe that was it.

    Did you end up needing the whole second suitcase on the way back? Or do you think just taking the large suitcase would have been enough?

    • @lynneguine
      @lynneguine 5 місяців тому

      Hi! Yes, I did end up packing both the full suitcase and the carry-on (as well as my backpack and purse) to their fullest on my way back. I definitely recommend having that much free space, or at least anticipate that you'll need it and be okay with buying more luggage if you don't go over with it. I had a few friends who even needed to buy two additional suitcases for volume of stuff they had to take back with them. Thank you again for watching and good luck!
