Project - Shorts with outercurve binding
As I mentioned in my video about outer curve binding I am now sharing my whole project - using outer curve binding as an element of design.
I cover all the steps that I needed to make the complete pair of shorts. Including a mistake or two, unfiltered reality.
Since doing this video I have learned that the reference to closing binding with a serger is no longer available. I will work on posting something soon to compensate for this.
Please remember that sewing is my hobby, I am not professionally trained. I enjoy sharing what I have learned with you.

Wide needle setting with a binder and bonus track!
Переглядів 1,6 тис.4 роки тому
In this video I show you how quick it is to switch to using the wide needle setting with your single or double fold binder. After that I show you a very different look with your binder - here it is important to use a double fold. So have a look - I hope that you enjoy it. I will add info cards to link in my other videos - until then just look for them on my channel!
using a chain stitch with a double fold binder
Переглядів 1,4 тис.4 роки тому
HI today I am having a look at how to adjust and use the double fold binder with only one needle and in this case with the chain stitch on my coverstitch machine. I share with you the adjustment that is needed, how to check it and how to position your binder on the machine when you are ready to sew. Also checking it one more time - this is very important if you have adjusted your binder. You sh...
Hemming - making a hem part of your project, not just an afterthought!

I would like to share with you a few steps that I take while preparing and assembling my projects that help me get great looking hems. I will not talk about needles, tensions, the differential or anything machine specific. Use these tips to make your hem part of your project and not (look like) an afterthought!
Winding thread spools with your sewing machine
Переглядів 12 тис.4 роки тому
In this video I share with you how (and why) I like to wind thread onto a spool rather than a bobbin. This is of course when I need a second source of thread in the same color - like when using my coverstitch for a hem. Additionally this is a good way to wind serger cone thread onto a spool if by chance you want the same color to use in your machine.
Convert a double binder to a raw edge binder
Переглядів 2 тис.4 роки тому
In this video I show you how to easily covert a double fold binder that has already been converted to a single fold (see my channel for that video) to a raw edge binder. A raw edge binder can help you apply Fold Over Elastic (FOE) or if using strips of fabric create a different, slightly used look. All done with a tool that you already have. Thank you so much for another brilliant video. You won't believe how much this has helped me.👏 I am doing a Hong Kong seam finish on an unlined jacket. This hack is just brilliant for this application because the back side of the Hong Kong seam is left unfinished, and I did not quite care for that look. My binder gives me a finished width of 8mm, this is a tad too wide. Is there a hack to get that finished width to 6mm, without buying another binder? My current binder is a double fold, 30mm to 8mm. Thank you again.

The only way to get a slightly narrower bind is to adjust the bumpers. You would need to pull them closer to the binder. If this will achieve your required width I can not say.

Hello, I’ve never owned a cover stitch machine in all my many years of sewing. But when needing to take up hem on my granddaughter’s formal dress and it was made with Lycra, I struggled to replicate the stitch. This was when I decided to purchase one, (4 more girls to go). Your very welcome explained instructions made me decide to get the binding attachment too. Thank You so very much 😊

The binder in general does not like bulk. I try to avoid it any way possible. When I do have it I use my beloved hammer and give everything a solid whack or two to reduce. Also I glue things together in advance to keep them in place while going thru the binder. So glue - whack and guide.

Thanks for this excellent tutorial. So much more informative than the information (or lack of) provided by said manufacturer! I had a question about the position of the rake, but I found the answer in a previous comment. Loosened the screws and flipped it upside down so I can move it forward as well as backwards. Very important to me to be able to create more stretch in the binding as I sew a lot with knits.

Great tutorial. Thank you. Do you have any advice on why I can't get my single-fold knit binding to work? The stitch just won't enclose the raw edge. It works beautifully with woven fabric, but the knit, even a stable knit similar to the heart fabric you show, fails me. The raw edge lands left of the left needle. Even fusing interfacing to the knit makes no difference. I've set up my machine exactly as you described, with the upper bumper 2-3 mm left of the lower bumper, and the lower bumper lined up with the left needle. The settings work great with woven fabric, with the coverstitch nicely straddling the raw edge, but not at all with the knit. Thanks for any advice.

When binding an inside curve as in a neckline, should I increase the tension toward the center?

    • @rebeccassewingcorner49
      @rebeccassewingcorner49 2 роки тому

usually no - you will have more consistent results if the tension is the same around the whole neckline. I honestly do not adjust during the entire process. If you are unhappy with the results you are better off removing, steaming it to get the fabric to recover and starting over.
