Hi, The result is beautiful. A true example of labor of love. Is this piece a keeper or a sale? Looking forward to your next episode. Thanks
Thank you! I've sold this one, although did really want to keep it by the end!
Looks amazing
Thank you Kelley!
Beautiful result. I'm sure some people love the sound of scraping. Unfortunately I had to fast forward through it. I'm subscribing tho
Thank you! You're absolutely right, some people would definitely find it hard to hear - like nails on a chalkboard I'm guessing!
You could mute it for that part. But the shop sounds are pretty loud, especially compared to the voiceover. I’m guessing it’ll be adjusted with experience 😊
@@pattiobrien5408 First time trying the voice over out. I wasn't too sure about the balance of it all, but you're right, next time ill tweak it a bit manually. This time I just put them in as is and hoped for the best 😅
Beautiful work! It's always shocking to see the before shot, you did so much work on this piece that I forgot what it looked like originally lol. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! To be honest - by the time I had finished that table (I took my time, maybe a month), that I had forgotten how bad it was too until I went to edit all the footage!
What a beautiful piece of furniture! Excellent work on blending the repair. I have a Teak cabinet, it has the exact same red tone, it's almost like it's the same teak. I appreciate your artistry and easy way.
Thanks for the kind words!
Nice job 👍
Thanks Julianne!
That turned out a treat. The wood grain matching was excellent.
Thank you!
Love your work. Liked & Subscribed.
Thanks a lot!
Lovely job
Thank you Rae!
Wow! That is beautiful. I recently decided to start restoring furniture. My first piece is a vintage oak dresser, thank goodness no veneer. lol I have another piece, a small vintage side table that has swelling on a corner. It has veneer where it’s swelled, but the actual edges are solid wood. If I may, I’d like to ask a question about how you fixed your table. I saw that you added a bit of water to the glue. Since particle board reacts to water, would using the wood glue without water make a better fix so you wouldn’t need to use filler afterwards? Or am I just completely uneducated because I am definitely not an expert by any means, I was just curious. Thank you for sharing your videos with us, your restorations are beautiful 💖
Thank you! The reason I thinned the glue out with some water is because the syringe was so small that it wouldn't be possible to get straight glue through. I only used a little bit to get it thin enough. It would definitely be better to use straight glue, but because of how thin the gap was, only that small syringe would work. That being said, with that small amount of water mixed into the glue, and the clamping force of it, I don't expect it to cause any problems. The reason I had to use the filler is that even with the chipboard dug out, and the veneer glued and clamped down, it still wasn't perfectly flush with the edge trim, so I used the filler to even it out :)
what a fine job you did there!! i’m so happy i passed by your channel, instantly subscribing!
Thank you! Appreciate the support :)
@@toneandteak you’re welcome, ofc!
Stunning table! Love your artistry. I just subscribed.
Thank you for the kind words!
hi sir ,,,i wonder what was the name of the wood filler that you used ?
Hey! The wood filler I used is Earl's Timbermate Teak wood filler. It's available locally here in Australia at most hardware stores.
Lovely job, beautiful grain, what a stunner!
Thank you! The grain really surprised me. I'm not sure if you could tell but at the start of the video when the old finish was on, you could basically see no grain at all!
Ah, a Newbie! I Enjoyed Your Video. Nice Restoration. You have a sort of Easygoing Laidback Pace. Almost Relaxing. I'll Check Back!
Thanks mate! I was a newbie not too long ago either, it's a great hobby to get into.
Stunning end result 👌
Thank you! Your channel looks nice too, ill be watching your video tonight :D
Love it great work, loved the touching in process which I'm sure is a Art on it's own, have a nice day !!! Brian UK !!!.👍👍.
There was a lot of trial and error in learning how to do it, and still much more to learn!
Great work friend, look's good have a nice day !!! Brian UK !!!. 😀😀👍👍.
Thanks Brian, hope you have a great day too!
Looks awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!
That's a beautiful table! Great job ❤
Thank you very much! It definitely exceeded my expectations, especially with the top.
Wow! Beautiful but such a lot of work! Was surprised by the number of finishes you applied. Did you sell it or keep it?
Thank you! If there is no veneer repairs needed I would usually skip that shellac stage. You can just use the Scandinavian Oil alone, but for pieces that might see more water spills and hard wear and tear, I like to add the poly on top as well. I sold this one, but I have an identical one of my own, and another one to refinish at some point too. It never ends!
I've never seen teak go so red like that. Was it a natural tone or some colour from the Scandinavian stuff? Or is Australian teak just really red?
It's actually a bit of a mystery... I thought the same as you, and I actually suspect it may be a Blackbean table (which is another common native wood used on MCM furniture here). I had a few different people look at the table in person and online and more people concluded it was Teak than other species so who knows!
The underside of teak furniture is often mahogany which is much more red.
I was looking it up and can’t find anything to explain the red?!?!
@@lindaoharris In person it does appear much more along the lines of teak's brownish/orange, but it still is undoubtedly a bit darker than normal. If it is indeed Teak, one wood specialist told me that it may have been very old heartwood, which would be darker/older than most teak veneer scene in MCM furniture. I still personally think it may be Blackbean though!
A lovely piece to start with..a great restoration👍👍
Beautiful! You inverted the the legs!! Looks a little more sleek that way.
Nice spotting! I much prefer it that way too.
You did an amazing job.😊
Thank you! I was happy to save this table from landfill.
nice job. the repairs were very - very nice.
Thank you! Always trying new methods but I'm really liking this pigment/shellac method lately!
Beautiful results, and that repair job on top was really well done. Love it!
Thank you mate!
Beautiful restoration ❤. My family had a table like this in the 70s.
They are a lovely piece aren't they! I sold this piece, however I also have my own Model 90 as well!
Awesome first video, excited to see more from you. Like Jay, I really enjoyed watching the pigment colouring 😎 Very nice table 👌🏼
Thanks mate! Already got the next video in the works.
Great work Ben, especially the colour blending. Spot on 😀👍👍
Thank you! This was my second time using the pigment and shellac method, I definitely have room to improve but it's really quite a forgiving method compared to paints.
Great work!
Thank you! Love all the work you do on your channel as well!
That’s a pretty great first video mate ! You definitely know what you’re doing 👌 do you have a link to those pigments you used? I can’t find anything like that here where I live.
Thank you! I actually got these pigments at a local arts store, but the person told me that it doesn't matter what brand/where you get them, they are all from the same natural sources. Maybe try this UK source colouredearthpigments.co.uk/
I was going to ask the same thing!
