very cool, how you first heard them and became hooked immediately. my journey to being a mavs obsessed music fan was a bit different. i first heard the mavericks live in concert. i had never heard of them or knew anything about them. it was the year 2000, and they opened for dave matthews band at a concert venue i worked at (the gorge in wa. state). i was taking the weekend off to see dave (i was a huge fan back then and saw 59 DMB shows). so i sat down with my backpack full of beer, and watched the opening act, while waiting for dave to come on. the mavericks blew me away from the first few notes. entirely different sound than DMB, but they got the whole 20,000 fans dancing right away and they never stopped. it was one of the most fun sets i ever saw, and i've seen a thousand bands in my life and working shows. people were literally laughing and dancing around. it was so fun! i was hooked. i wanted to know who that band was and, like you, went to the record store the minute i got back to town and bought their smash hits album. i played that cd constantly, even though i was big into phish and DMB and jam bands at that time. i bought raul's solo album 'today' and loved it too. then around the 2010's decade, i didn't hear the mavericks much. i never listened to radio, and i just forgot about them. i still had my cd's but rarely played cd's anymore and the mavericks faded from my memory...then i was on youtube here, back in june of this year, and saw raul's cancer diagnosis post. it made me so sad to hear, but at the same time, it triggered my memory of what a great, fun band they were...so i started going back and listening to all their records and became obsessed. i am finding a goldmine of concerts, clips, videos etc, that i missed the first time. they have become the band i listen to every day. they make me smile. thanks for posting this memory. thanks for reading mine.

Love the use of the drum loop, with the drummer coming in and out of the song. This was a thing in the late 90's to mix in loops, etc.

I have loved the Mavericks since the first time I heard their first album. Had to have it. My husband loved them also and gave me a special treat one day by dancing 🕺 into the bedroom. “Oh what a thrill”.

I wish that i want to listen to some rare unscoped radio airchecks of KISR 93.7 from the 1980s and 90s ,the 2000s, and the 2010s, even though i recorded a number of KISR 93.7 airchecks since December 2023. Because recently I was born on April 26th 2005 and I also wish that i wanted to turn back time and revisit moments of listening to KISR 93.7 back in the 2000s as a whole decade to remember and early-mid 2010s. think about the real vibes of nostalgia.

Both Elvis and Fats Domino recorded great versions of "Your Cheatin' Heart"...Jerry Lee Lewis did the same for "Crazy Arms"...

At 5:22, he put his left drumstick in his teeth, reached to get something behind him, kept drumming one-handed while making an equipment adjustment with his left hand, and seamlessly continued normally afterward. I absolutely love watching him work!
