Four day week and over target, van in for gearbox fault.
Переглядів 609День тому
Well this week was up and down it started off looking good with plenty rebooked in work, then we had a cancellation for a big job, but late in the day it was all good again. The gearbox fault was finally identified as the gear selector module inside the auto box and is being repaired under warranty.
Three day week, and takings down as you would expect. Plus a mystery guest appearance

Well it was a good week on the days I actually worked, again life commitments took up some of my time. We had a well paid run south cancelled, but that is how it goes sometimes.

Well a pretty good week, a great run south and north paid both ways. Had a great chat with Tom in a car park and with WKCS on the phone,

Well it is all in the video, but I damaged the cable for the rear camera feed. The cable is no longer supported so I needed a bit of out the box and blue Sky thinking on this repair.
Tough month or so I thought

Well as it turns out it was an ok week, I met my pal Mark, then my job got cancelled, bummer, managed to get Bristol back to Scotland more or less paid, but only just broke even.
Not a great week, saved by a direct contact, I think I rambled a little to much as well.

Well the week started with great enthusiasm, but the lack of available work Monday Tuesday was a disappointment, luckily a local courier company had 2 great days to round off the week.
What does ASAP really mean on your job booking

Well it was a 2.5 day week and above target for those days. The dash cam fell off and damaged the rear video feed cable, and guess what the manufacturer does not support that model anymore.
3 day week, long drive home from London Great pay going down, lousy return.

Hi neil so how straightforward is getting into courier work for the self employed??. I'm seriously considering having a punt . How many courier apps are there to punt for work ?? Cheers Paul
Hey Neil - love your videos !
It's really annoying that forklift drivers don't really care if they damage your van.
I told them that I don't own the van because DVLA do they own the title they also own all registration plates so you are not the owner
Great video Neil. So i take it that your van is out of warranty now? What mileage does it have after 3 years? I only ask because i have, in a previous life, driven 250,000 miles in the 3 year warranty period of a new Vito van That particular van started losing water at the age of 2 years 11 months. Reported it to mercedes and fixed under warranty. It turned out to be a cracked head snd and turned into a 4 grand job (8 ish years ago) The upshot is, mercedes didnt flinch about repairing under warranty with 1 month left and 240,000 miles on the clock. However, Mercedes vans are so bloody expensive these days so i am thinking of ditching my Vito (6 years old and 166,000 on.the clock) for something else. RainX...applied on side windows is a brilliant product... Applied on windscreen..hmmmm..not too sure that would be for me. Keep on enjoying your work...i enjoy mine 👍😀
The value of buying a MB under warranty.....the worry of not. I think uncertainty around the budget will kill October. After that it depends on how bad it is/isn't
Wee Susie swearer 😂😂
Farms can be fun with Jcb Loadhalls and pallet forks
I trusted forklift truck driver in Aberdeen he dinged my side door and didn’t say anything. Wasn’t allowed out the cab as had no hard hat. He didn’t even say anything and I didn’t notice it until my next collection
Mrs Neptune has repertoire which is much like mine, Confucius says don’t trust any fork lift driver as they don’t give a sh1t ……
We need more of mrs Neptune commentary 😂😂
I like how you got the blame. stroppy FLT drivers are a hazard tho.
Susie needs to do all your voice overs in future. 😂
agreed 🤣
Good luck with the gearbox, I’m one of the lucky ones who took your advice. Thanks again .
Just never fill it up. You dont need to
I don’t know who that was but what a lovely van he has 😂
Those bins are not for Tachos, they are for pasties
The “P” button is standard on Vito’s with proximity sensors this will temporarily mute the beeping sound when close to an object. This Will return to normal after an ignition off then restart. The front Dash proximity indicators will continue to work with the sound muted.
Please advise how to bid I live in Hamilton couldn’t get successfully a job how to bid your kind advise would be appreciated and very helpful 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🏴
Excellent I live in Hamilton try to bid but nothing comes through I need your advice! I started my own van under company named Sri Quantum movers no clue how much to bid please help 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🏴
What load of crap . Was on more about gaffer tape then he was changing a filter
Hi Neil You mentioned that one of your contributers was thinking about a 3rd party warranty. Unfortunately i havnt managed to find a third party warranty provider who will cover a vehicle that is used for Hire and Reward. Its too much of a risk for them Great video as usual.. Pete (PTR's Transport.)
Hi Neil can you tell me the spread over for vans . You always say it’s 10 hours driving, is the spread over the same as the HGV of 15 hours . Also is there a minimum rest period? It would be good to talk about this also .thanks Simon.
@@Shep-nf3wk hi Simon, happy to cover this, But in short 10 hrs max driving Breaks decided by driver Max 11 hrs duty No rules for rest per day, but as the 10 hr driving is stated max per day then 13 hrs rest is the only option. Great question.
Nice to hear the brakes are all sorted . Question - Going by what you have changed going into this year of your business would you change anything from your previous years or go back to compared to this year . Thanks neil
Hi Tiffy, great to hear from you, I will pop it in next week, all the best.
Hi Neil I hope you are well great videos and great content Have you ever done a job to Cornwall and did you get a job back or do you think you would May be question of the week All the best buddy M
What printer do you have in your van and where did you purchase it from? Loving the videos keep them coming
@Thelonghaulcourier hi, mine is a phomemo I got it from amazon. I think it was £150 www.amazon.co.uk/Phomemo-Portable-Supports-Bluetooth-Compatible/dp/B09ZXB6H7X

From a Londoners point of view, you’ve both got dodgy accents hehe. I second the thanks to Neil, he’s always there to give advice and good fun to chat to as well. All the best! Btw work has been dire down here too if it’s any consolation.

Thanks for the reply in the video. I would agree with the paintwork the front of mine is also covered in stone chips, one thing to consider is the plastic front bonnet deflector to reduce the amount on the bonnet. Regarding maintenance with my van over the 100,000 miles it goes into Mercedes for an A service every 12k and a B service every 36k. My van is now 3 years old so will only be going into Mercedes for a service every 24k and I'll be doing my own oil service every 10k. I am on my second set of front discs and 3rd set of front pads ,second set of rear discs and pads. on at 92k did my second gear box service. I have owned the van from only 800 miles old, I have thought about changing it for the now 24 new shape model as it brings a nice few extras over my current vito premium 9g. However not sure I can justify over £15k price increase over my current van spec for spec, nearly new for nearly new. Regarding warranty I'm now out of warranty on my van, As your doing your first MOT I would assume you are also in the same boat are you considering seeing if you can extend yours or take out a 3rd party warranty. I know vans are reliable however mine does do a fair bit of stop start driving so this would shorten the life of components. I'm looking at wanting to get into the long haul game after doing multi drop for nearly 5 years, the job like all has become increasingly difficult. However I'm massively concerned about the amount of work available in my area Exeter, having a young family at home ideally I would prefer to be home most evenings and know this isn't always possible. A couple of videos ago I mentioned about towing with the Vito I actually have a detachable tow bar for mine as I use it for towing my car to track what a fantastic tow vehicle they make the trailer weight is around 850 kg and car around 1100kg never issue while I don't tow lots the 5 to 10 times a year I do it's fantastic. I have the last of the 114 9g autos 134bph they made so do feel it could do with a little more power personally but the trade off against the fuel economy is worth it at around 60 mph for around 200 miles the van averages around 55 to 58mpg which is fantastic it's 114 9 speed auto with Michelin aglis cross climate 2s all season tyres which are the best tyres on the market I run these all year round but keeping an eye out for another set of wheels to run some eco summer tyres on to reduce ware and increase economy. Don't feel the need to read all this out in the video. Regards Jake
It was eddy ua-cam.com/video/o2ayiy9uQi4/v-deo.html Anyone seeking to pay £10 an hour waiting is a complete chancer. It's less than minimum wage.
@alexanderhughes1540 I agree it's not enough, I have one customer who states it, but always pays what I ask, the key is not to take the piss. In my opinion of course
The pleasure was all mine when we met Neil and appreciate the effort to bother to come in, glad your day worked out eventually.
Got a question about the Vito. How many MPG do you get. My old transporter swb does 40 MPG but I'm thinking of getting a newer van. It sounds like buying a slightly higher mileage Vito could be good option
@leechi001 hi, I get about 45-46 I can stretch that to 48 if I stick to 60mph, mine is the 116 160bhp model I have 2 friends with the 114 138bhp model who consistently achieve 55mph, If you can get a good 114 rwd with the merc engine it is, in my opinion the best one. But if towing then the 116 is the one to have, I have recently gone back to towing, (domestic only) and even with 2ton ton Inc the trailer she pulls great. But the huge caveat is what ever one you get it has to have history.
Which I am sure is obvious to you anyway.
@neptunecourier That seems very good for a swb van. I just need to get a bank loan. Which I suspect will be hard in this business
Hello Neil I also do breakfast at McDonald's. I also use the Greggs breakfast offering for a similar price to the maccies offer. I also have a Vito. This one is my third one. All three have been super reliable even with over 250,000 on the clock. My current Vito has 165,000 on the clock. Air con is a must in every van i have had for the last 25 years! Luckily i dont use any apps because i am in a different situation to most couriers. I am semi retired. So far, August has been goood to me but I do recall that August 23 was very poor indeed Last week i picked up a new customer courtesy of an existing client. Their work will be roughly once a week from Greater Manchester to Berkshire. They know i am a one man band, and they also appreciate that my service is good and my insurances, particularly my public liability insurance, are always up to date.. These details are very important for a well known plc. Stay safe...Pete
I've been keeping an eye on courier firms that I have been involved with over the years. They seem to have switched from churning drivers to churning office staff. I'm guessing they are running out of room on wage costs and don't think they can get any more blood out of the stone on driver rates. The barriers to entry on this game are getting higher and higher....
I can concur it's definitely less busy this August infact I reckon the whole year has been pretty poor. This week I had two good days and the rest not that great. I had one customer who thought I was ripping him off charging him more than £2.50 to go through the Dartford tunnel. He started checking the prices online whilst I was talking to him on the phone. I'm just hoping September will be more busy as people go back to work after the school holidays
Hello I'm interested in how your getting on with your vito I too have a vito 2021 I'm just about to hit 100k in 2.5 years I'm yet to have any issues with it I'm my eyes it's got to be the best van especially for distance have you had many issues with yours I do multi drop work and can't fault the van I hope to have it for another 200k mine was brought as a canceled order. Is there any spec you would have liked to have added if you were buying your van from new led light heated seats adaptive cruise blind spot mounting. For me I was lucky that I managed to find a van with the led lights as its a must for me but wish I had adaptive cruise and heated seats
@@flakey07 hi, great question I also think the Vito is totally fit for purpose, I am at 150k miles just one issue seised rear caliper slide bolts, otherwise the van is prone to bumper chips, but that is about it, mine is an auto which I love I don’t think heated seats are worth it but cruse control is a must have, I change my oil at 12k miles I did some videos on why a little while back Mercedes say 24k but independent oil analysis says oil is done near 10k. I suggest getting the Brake callipers off and slides done at 100k and fully refurbished at 200k, What engine do you have ?
Im im car trade and its always dead in 6 weeks holiday so i imagine it will have a knock on with your game
Last week was tough, I was sat in hillington and saw one of the jobs you mentioned, someone took it at that rate too. Interesting that you take confidence from the “same day payments” I take from it they want someone who wants fast cash and will work for a lower rate.
@@craigmcg125 hi yes that is my normal take on it.
Is that a Scottish cat that got his McD’s ? That’s the budget done then !
Just thought I'd give a couple of tips for new drivers starting out on the Cx regarding pricing that could save you a few pounds if a job takes you over the Dartford bridge/tunnel or any other toll. Make sure you add that to the price. And if you have to travel say more than 10 miles to a collection then add a few pounds to cover your fuel to get there. Sometimes adding the fuel cost may not work especially if there's a lot of drivers and little work.
Is the 2150kg dry weight or does it include fuel, oil, washer fluid , adr kit (and your lunch ) ?
@@chrisl2697 tune in next week I will spill
On 99% of our jobs, asap means exactly that. Immediate as soon as possible delivery.
Very close to the San Starko (Raith Rovers) when you were at Morrisons. Angus Lennie (from the Great Escape film, and from the Crossroads tv soap) used to live in the high rise flats that were behind the bush & tree when you were standing in the Morrisons car park.
Awesome bit of history, I remember the old Raith ground and collerie behind it very well.
Not everything is mega urgent, I wish shippers would put the time it needs to be delivered.
Hello mate. Looking to purchase a van from Brian Curry Milton Keynes I remember your video regarding this dealership but can't remember if they were good or bad? (I can't find the video) please could you give e me some advice before I go. Regards Laurie
