Knock Sensor Removal Honda Aquatrax F12x (2007)
this is a video of the removal process of a knock sensor on a 2007 Honda Aquatrax F12x. I know this is the same process on other years, but I don't know for sure what all years it covers. My 2006 is identical.
video includes descriptions of bolts sizes and the entire removal process from simply removing the seats to having the knock sensor in hand.
this was done to cure my code 25, however this is NOT what typically causes this code on these jet skis. normally it is a failed computer.

Can I ask where you got the plugs from because I have the same kind of car that you have so please respond to me and I would really appreciate it
I'm a professional technician, so I had plugs laying around from previous repairs. Those were off a ford fuel pump connector I had saved while doing bigger wiring repairs
@@ajpotter4330 okay where do you think I could find them connectors
@lennyharding4265 those specific ones you would have to go to a junk yard to steal off a vehicle. However a quick google search found these 5 pin connector sets Male and female a.co/d/9ylimP2
Thank you very much I will try them
How’d you get the water temp to work mines miss rereading do to sensor
Do you know if I can use this cluster in a digital berlinetta?
I do not. I would reach out to intellitronix directly. They may make one for it
Where did you purchase your plugs from
I didn't. I'm an automotive technician. I saved them from an engine swap I had done that the replacement engine came with a new wiring harness
Ok thanks for the response I’m doing it as we speak another question when u was describing the wires is it just one ground wire to control all gauges or do each gauge has it own ground
@bamabullies864 the cluster I installed in this video had one single ground if I remember correctly. However they have updated their circuit boards and the new ones have individual grounds for most of the sensors to give better accuracy. That being said most sensors use a body ground to work. So you can try a single ground, but if you have a sensor that isn't reading exactly right then run its own ground
Ok thanks a lot bc mines does have separate grounds
@bamabullies864 using them will get you better accuracy on each Guage. I only personally ran my updated cluster to have a stand alone ground for the temp sensor and oil pressure sensor. Everything else got a standard frame ground and it works fine. I did update the oil pressure sensor and coolant temp sensors to the ones they supplied that are two wire sensor too
For myself it is not helping to talk about what you did and what you thought because I didn't and don't see it. Basically I need to see someone doing it to understand not tell me about it.
I'm surprised I don't see anyone mentioning that it looked like you have 1 bar (second) on your speed gauge was not lighting up...
I didn't, your correct. It had a bad solder joint. I was able to fix it. Just pulled the board out, got the solder back to liquid with a soldering iron and then let it cool again. Fixed it
I second the question, is the fuel gauge accurate. I THOUGHT the fuel gauge was supposed to display how much gas you have left. What I just saw in this video does not look like it's doing that.
Yes it does. It's displayed as a number representing the percentage of fuel you have. From 99 percent at a full tank all the way down to 0 or 1 percent. I've never personally gotten it lower than 15 percent, but has been accurate based on the amount of fuel I put in.
@@ajpotter4330 thank you. I don't have it completely hooked up yet because of issues with hooking the speedometer up, but I had the fuel gauge going yesterday.... sitting still slightly revving the engine watching the tach the fuel gauge went from 2 to 1 to 0. The car was still running, so I assumed the gauge wasn't working.
You do need to remember these older vehicles dont have the same baffles in the fuel tanks newer ones do. So the fuel moves around when the vehicle is moving to and you will get a small fluctuation in fuel gauge reading from it
Is the fuel gauge accurate?
Yes it is. It's displayed as a percentage
How did you run your wire to the VSS? I can't find a hole in the firewall? I have a 1988 camaro btw
I honestly don't remember where I found the hole for mine. I may have used the hole for the speedo cable since I removed mine and mounted my sensor on the transmission. Then I built a three wire harness from the cluster to the transmission for the vss
How do you recalibrate the mph
I'm not sure. Since its sensor driven I'm not sure if you can or not. Mine ended up being close so I didn't bother digging that far into it
Yeah I’m getting a 3rd gen camaro and I’m not doing this it looks like too much work and I have a feeling I’d mess it up and not know how to fix it
your dash will eventually go out
@@arthurjordan8371 I know
Looks good but do the gauges are inaccurate then what’s the point?
Once I played with everything the only gauge that isnt 100 percent accurate is the oil pressure gauge. It reads above actual pressure when oil pressure is 50 psi or above. Everything else is SPOT on now. However the original point was because the old gauges were failing and I was tired of replacing them with more used parts. And it looks cool
Thanks man! Pin connections w/ what they went to helped a bunch!
What type of pins comnectors are those and do I need more wiring of same color to connect to wires in the car
Your very welcome
Alaud those are connectors from a couple of fords I had worked on in the past. Something i had laying around not something I purchased
Hey AJ I followed what you did in this video to put mine in. Most of it worked out like it should but my speedo and odometer don’t light up. All the wires in the cluster are all connected seemlessly as well as the wires coming from the sensor for the speedo. The rpm and other gauges light up and work but the speedo and odometer don’t. Any ideas?
I had some issues with my cluster when I first got it due to solder joints that weren't soldered well. If you have part of the cluster that turns on and lights up and part that doesn't. I would suspect you probably have a similar issue or a bad cluster.
Ok thanks
got any links of any kind to any connectors/adapters that you used? (even product numbers or google images)
No I dont. I just looked quickly to try to find a link. Not having much luck. However it doesnt really matter what connectors you use as long as it has enough pins and you have both a Male and female side since your going to have to wire both ends up anyway. Those were just what I had laying around from harness swaps I've done.
HELP. what light is on the bottom left of cluster???? mine is staying on but dont know what warning light is that.
I have no idea. I would need to see a picture of what light your talking about
A.J Hey bro. I have the same issue with my speed sensor after installing my led cluster speed on the unit stopped working, everything else is good. How did you get your speed sensor to work? Intelletronix is taking for ever to resolve this issue. Thank you for the help.
I don't remember exactly how, but I ended up modifying the sensor they sent me so that it would screw into the transmission. the only problem i have now is by doing all of this i have removed the circuit board that was in the cluster to run the speed sensor for the cruise control. so once in a while i get a check engine light with a speed sensor code.
@@ajpotter4330 thank you for replying back AJ. Great video
I have a 1984 camaro but the Gauge cluster only goes to 80mph all I want to do is upgrade the MPH because I know I'm going well over 80mph but their doesn't seem to be too many Gauge clusters I can use that are not digital
Balin Williamson the only thing I could think of to do would be swap in a speedo gauge from a different submodel that goes higher. They are cable ran so they should work fine.
What type of plugs did you use?
Michael B they were just extra plugs I had laying around. Off of a ford as I'm a mechanic. But you could use just about any plug
AJ.. where, through the firewall did you run speed sensor white wire, and where did you ground the new Speed sensor? And what power source 12V did you hook into for the speed sensor?
Brian Adamson I think I used the ground and 12 volt source from the cluster as well. So I ran a three wire harness through the firewall. It's been a while so I would have to look at it again to be sure. For running through the firewall I used the grommet that's already in the firewall which if I remember correctly is up and towards the driver's side of the brake pedal. It was a pain to find on the engine side. I used a hard fishing line to poke a hole in the grommet and pull the wires back through it. Pushed from inside till I found it outside. It's tucked near the booster on the outside.
Hey man I just bought an 86 project car!! Subbed more vids plz!!
Fabian Arreola gotta be honest, don't have much that mine needs anymore. It's mint. I may recover the headliner again. Not entirely happy with my first job.
so where did you get your black plug connect from?
Darren Stevens I'm an automotive technician (mechanic) those were plugs I had laying around as test plugs.
where did you order from
Monico Haro from intellitronix through ebay.
AJ Potter thank you my fuel gauge wont work and it stopped working ever since i got the fuel pump fixed.
just being honest, chances are EXTREMELY high it's not the gauge. your probably going to get this cluster installed and the fuel gauge still won't work......take it back to the shop that installed the fuel pump and tell them that it quit when they installed the pump.
AJ, Thank you for the video. My son and I are working on his 83 "project" car. His cluster was removed by the previous owner, and when the previous owner reinstalled it, he ruined all of the circuitry that is on the back of the white cluster housing. Nothing works. I like the look of this cluster and the price. I have a few questions.: Does it show you how to hook up the gages to each sensor? (Oil, temp ect...), and does it come with an entirely new harness or do we have to utilize the factory one? Thanks!
givemaboot it only comes with a small amount of wire attached to it with the expectations of useing the OE harness. I added plugs to both ends just so I could remove it if necessary. however other than the speed sensor harness it's designed to use the original. that being said since it gives you individual wires for each input there is no reason you couldn't run those wires directly to the signal outputs of each sensor.
Thanks AJ!
ok but how do you take out a cluster that's what I want to pls..
Enrique Infante the main cluster is just screws. They aren't hidden. Right on the face of the cluster the torx bolts. I think 8 of em. Then remove all the gauges to get to the back part
It would help to unbolt the top "shelf" part of the dash and lower the steering column
do you need a ECM for this to work??
Riggs no, this is designed as a stand alone computer. it takes the same inputs the original cluster did and converters them to a digital display. except for the speedo which it comes with a sensor and plug to make that work.
AJ Potter perfect!
Riggs hey how do you take out a cluster cuz i need to replace my gauges or just replace the gauges..
on this vehicle you just take the screws out of the main face covers then the gauges just pull out. other than the speedo it has a cable attached to it
AJ Potter yea i took it off but i couldn't take the brace off the gauges came off but that..
Nice vid. Thinking about doing this to mine. Was it worth it?
i feel it was. i was tired of the old gauges going bad/not reading right. in particular my temp gauge. only down side is the glass doesnt block all visibility so when the sun shines on it you can see the circuit board. otherwise very happy
richard it was around 200.00 bucks.
How much did the new cluster cost?
thank you and absolutely. I hope it helps the next guy. ends up no matter what I do when I have more than 70 psi of oil pressure the gauge reads 99, but I know I have good pressure so yea. coolant sensor just needed a different adapter worked great, and the Speedo I ended up getting a Speedo cable for a two cable setup in a corvette and then connected that to an adapter they sent me for a cruise control setup and put the sensor on the end of that. so it's golden now
thanks for the video that looks great
