Retaining Walls | How to Build Gabion Cages Using Spirals
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 місяці тому
Gabion cages are easy to build and perfect when you have limited access for machinery to dig footings for more conventional retaining walls. In this video I use up the remainder of my materials to come up another 40cm on an existing retaining wall. The additional retaining wall spans 430cm (long) x 40cm (high) x 35cm (deep). The height and depth were based on what materials I had left. When cal...

    Looks good! You might be able to wire the other brake into the controller twice if you know what i mean... like jumper the the brake inputs on the controller...? So you don't have to carry around that redundant one

    Great job with the project! It was fascinating to see the process from design to testing. I’m sure the result will be fantastic after the final assembly and painting.

    Interesting prototype! Have you seen any ready-made joggers with a similar solution for sale? Maybe you should patent this invention quickly 😉. I think people living in hilly or mountainous areas would love it. By the way, can I claim 5% of the shares in your future startup? 😄

      I couldn't find any motorized joggers. I think I came across a pram with a small motor. There's definitely a market out there. Getting products patented and manufactured is no easy task. Not sure if I'm game to even try. Will be fun to get it working and jog the kids to school at least. Thanks for watching and taking interest. Cheers Rob

    Great video Rob, thank you. Where did you come across the long spiral coils ? I haven’t managed to find the outside of kits

      @@martinbarker7500 Thanks Martin, I’m based in Brisbane Australia. I bought them from a place called ANP metals. They call them helical/ spiral wire. Alternatively you can go with C rings ( hog rings) but you’ll need to hire a pneumatic tool use them. The tool is too expensive to buy as a once off. The cages worked out about half the price compared to the kits. Hope that helps 👍 cheers

      Could I ask what the dimensions of your posts and the boards you used for the wall? I’m in the states, and our dimensional timber looks way thinner than yours!

    • @DIY_Rob
      @DIY_Rob 2 місяці тому

      @@davidorionpaden Hi David, the post are 100mm x 75mm (~4” x ~3”). The sleepers are 200mm x 50mm thick (8” x 2”). I’d say 2” is probably the minimum thickness for retaining walls. If you building a retaining wall higher than 60 cm (~23“) I’d rather go with a steel post (I-beam) and clad it afterwards with timber to make it look like a timber post was used. You might also go up to 3” thick sleepers. How that helps 👍

    I like your fence and nice video, given me some idea's for my own project. In the past when building fences in areas with restricted access, I have built the fence first with the posts, then lifted and dropped the fence into place, with post holes already dug out. Then concreted them.
