Sopot assymetrics and landings 24June2018
At a time when I had more energy, I did 5 TTBs from Sopot. The first was for assymetric collapse training. On the second, I forgot the camera until landing. On the third I had twisted risers so had to land early. On the last flight the wind had gone west so I landed in the west field due to likely rotor at the ski-lift.

Roll pitch training Sopot 22May2018

I requested to do pitch training last since I always get queasy. Interesting landing at the ski-lift...
Eype scratching 28Aug24

A marginal day at Eype with a slight collapse on take-off. Too far west to attempt GC. It was ok to top land, though.
Fish restaurant the hard way 30May2022
Переглядів 12Місяць тому
With the right conditions, the fish restaurant is a fairly straightforward 17km XC from Sopot. However, I had to survive two low saves before getting enough height and courage to pass by Karlovo. When I finally arrived high above the restaurant, I was at least half an hour after the others and then it took me 20mins to lose height and land... But the beer and trout tasted even better!
Sopot lake landing 28May2022

Bit of an overcast day at Sopot with very weak thermals. I eventually gave up and landed by the lake.
Dobrostan TTB to stork 27May2022
Переглядів 12Місяць тому
After taking off from Dobrostan, I couldn't find any decent thermals so I ended up near the road, pretty soon. I then was desperately looking for a low save before finally landing a bit downwind, next to a field with a stork in it (unfortunately not visible on GoPro). The lady on the cherry stall just up the road had been working in Bristol for 3 years...
Eype 29June24 tricky landing
Переглядів 147Місяць тому
Wind was a bit light and variable so it was lucky that Eype was not too crowded. A nice flight but the top landing was a bit tricky...
Batcombe 3June24 land near farm

Managed to TO into some nice lift but after that it was more tricky. In desperation, I went searching near to the farm but then had to land...
Batcombe 28Sept24 two flights
Переглядів 932 місяці тому
On my first flight, there was an anxious 20mins scratching low down before I eventually achieved a comfortable height. The second flight proved tricky to find a worthwhile thermal. Later on, a sea eagle joined Adrian for a while...
Beer Head 23Oct24

After a fairly strong and gusty start, it eventually calmed down a bit so I got a short flight. As I was coming in to land, I didn't notice that someone had sneaked off to Seaton...
Eype 26Oct24 light lift landing on Beacon
Переглядів 2592 місяці тому
This was a glorious day at Eype but the lift was a bit weak so that you had to be careful to maintain height. A red Photon managed to relaunch from Sea Town and then made a top landing just west of the beacon.
Bell 7Aug2022 gentle thermals

One TTB then two nice flights with gentle thermals. Need to improve my side landings...
Batcombe 25Sept2022 thermalling

Nice gentle thermals but I couldn't get much over 1,700ft.
Eype 18Aug2022 land on beach
Переглядів 754 місяці тому
A nice lifty day at Eype but the tide was high so I didn't try for GC. Then the wind picked up a bit at the end so I landed on the beach. Maybe should have approached from the west.
Eype 26Aug2022 big ears landing

After a nice flight from Eype, I made several approaches to top land but eventually opted to put in ears and land on the beach...

Batcombe 17Aug24 thermalling with Matt
I kayak that coastline. Stunning.
SD camera clean-up?😊
Nice one's John (Tenacious) Wreford ! The secret sauce is all in the magnificent windsock!
First time I've seen a top landing up there... 😁
Yeah guilty. As usual.... Lol... 😂
great video...
Thanks -this is Eype in Dorset, UK.
@@jwrefordj ok cheers... I actually realised after posting the comment 😅
Have you not flying for long time?
Thank you. That was awesome to watch.
How could you land from that condition? My mouth was dripping...! 😂😂😂
Ha ha! After an exciting climb out I was mentally exhausted and ready to find a beer or an ice cream...
Love your videos, especially the tracking interspersed with the flying footage. Have you ever considered overlaying the tracking real time? Also get a kick out hearing your Variometer chirping. Keep them coming!
That's good to know. The Ayvri plots are no longer available and I never did figure out how to overlay them...
It's always enjoyable to watch your flights. Thanks for posting.
That's nice to know. I post for personal use really (convenient flight diagnosis and archiving) but if anyone else finds them useful, that's fine by me.
NICE BRAVE ONE
2:55 to 3:07 , 5:15 also…nobody told me but I kind of noticed myself... when I am sniffing some lift around, the best approach is to keep the turn direction I started, widening / tightening the turn, trying to figure out on what side of the 360 I have the best lift … I was doing the same mistake of indecision, turn left then turn right like a zig-zag, but it never worked... you get greater sink and disorientation... impossible to map where the lift actually is... Also when entering the lift, try to anticipate before vario goes silent, the best would be to initiate the turn right before the high notes start to fade 😊 5:52 perfectly executed! I hope you don't mind I'm nagging you 🙃
No problem! The reason I used a GoPro was to analyse my flights rather than to make UA-cams so to have expert review is very useful, thanks.
@@jwrefordj I'm far from being expert but I had my struggles myself...and apparently older pilots don't share "small details" Indeed you learn a lot from debriefing your own videos, I do the same... and I also get better understandings from other pilot's videos... so posting yt is good both ways 👍
Good job... don't be afraid of forward launches... you can always abort in the last moment if you feel the slightest thing not alright, it's simple :) My approach was to train my brain to take the takeoff decision in the very last moment right before accelerating the run, if everything looks good... the point was not to preset my mind with the takeoff decision in the early stage, at the risers pull, as it's "now or never" :)… this way you give yourself enough time to feel the symmetric pull and the wing feedback and be ready to let go if something doesn't look alright. And when there is enough room to run or to abort it's even better and it's fun :)
Thanks for the advice!
Nice flight. What a superb flying site. What is the red, white and blue marker on the ground at launch? We'd enjoy seeing a brief "tour" of your flying gear. Thanks!
Not sure about the colours. The cutaway track never used to be there but the farmer put it in for something to do with clay pidgeon/pheasant shooting...
Nicely done! Excellent piloting skills.
Well mate, I had water dripping my mouth on those thermals... 😂 Cross country day so it seems...
Nicely done. What a great flying site....but a bit intimidating.
It can be, but there's a safe beach below which I often use if conditions are more tricky...
A great memento from a lovely 2 weeks in Bulgaria, a pleasure to share it with you John 😊
For those interested in the unusual standing up posture of the pilot (me), it was our first go with the Handivol and with hind sight I don't think we needed the extenders connecting it to the tandem spreaders.
Love the high jeopardy music John!
