Eype 30Apr2022 a scratchy day
Переглядів 42День тому
The wind was quite light so I thought I might have been walking back from Doghouse...
Golden Cap on a lovely day 17June24
Переглядів 66День тому
It was a lovely, bouyant day but I was flying for about an hour before conditions improved so that I could transition to GC. Then back for lunch but the wind had picked up a bit so I opted for the beach.
Eype 29Aug24 bouyant day

This was a very lifty day but the wind was forecast to strengthen. Didn't try too hard for GC and when white caps started to appear, I decided to put in ears and land on the beach.
Batcombe 17Aug24 thermalling with Matt

After thermalling for an hour to only 1800ft, I was ready to land but Matt crept past unseen and grabbed the best one to 4000ft and XC to Maiden Newton...

A good day at Eype. Wind slightly light to begin with but after an hour or so, it was strong enough to stop for lunch...

On a gentle day with weak thermals, I spent an hour going up and down the mountain until I finally landed by the lake.
Eype Bolero top land 1stApr2017

Eype can be tricky to top land but it helps if the take-off is not too crowded and the wind is about right...

Bit of a murky day but good lift although a bit west. Orographic was coming and going. Decided on a beach landing to avoid possible complications...
Dobrostan TTBs with Kira 21June2018

After getting queasy practicing pitch control, I then struggled to catch a thermal and had a nice TTB with Kira before another "XC" to 500m from the landing field...
Dobrostan pitch control 21June2018

Having done 3xTTB the day before, I elected to join another pilot doing a pitch control exercise. As luck would have it, I then found a thermal and gained good height but decided to carry on with the training...
Batcombe final flight 18Sept2017
Переглядів 315 місяців тому
This was the 4th flight of the day and I was determined not to go to bottom. However, at one stage I was considering risking a side landing but didn't get quite lined up so I was grateful when a cloud lifted me enough to make a top landing and avoid a long walk up.
Batcombe touch and go 18Sept2017

After an initial TTB, the sun emerged a bit stronger to allow some more flights. Decided to play safe and top land but took off again with slightly dodgy lift and then managed to top land again.
Batcombe TTB and top land 24Feb2017

After a quick TTB on my Adam, I was struggling to maintain height compared to the B & C wings. Eventually, I came in a bit low for a top land but it turned out ok and saved me another walk up!

great video...
Thanks -this is Eype in Dorset, UK.
@@jwrefordj ok cheers... I actually realised after posting the comment 😅
Have you not flying for long time?
Thank you. That was awesome to watch.
How could you land from that condition? My mouth was dripping...! 😂😂😂
Ha ha! After an exciting climb out I was mentally exhausted and ready to find a beer or an ice cream...
Love your videos, especially the tracking interspersed with the flying footage. Have you ever considered overlaying the tracking real time? Also get a kick out hearing your Variometer chirping. Keep them coming!
That's good to know. The Ayvri plots are no longer available and I never did figure out how to overlay them...
It's always enjoyable to watch your flights. Thanks for posting.
That's nice to know. I post for personal use really (convenient flight diagnosis and archiving) but if anyone else finds them useful, that's fine by me.
NICE BRAVE ONE
2:55 to 3:07 , 5:15 also…nobody told me but I kind of noticed myself... when I am sniffing some lift around, the best approach is to keep the turn direction I started, widening / tightening the turn, trying to figure out on what side of the 360 I have the best lift … I was doing the same mistake of indecision, turn left then turn right like a zig-zag, but it never worked... you get greater sink and disorientation... impossible to map where the lift actually is... Also when entering the lift, try to anticipate before vario goes silent, the best would be to initiate the turn right before the high notes start to fade 😊 5:52 perfectly executed! I hope you don't mind I'm nagging you 🙃
No problem! The reason I used a GoPro was to analyse my flights rather than to make UA-cams so to have expert review is very useful, thanks.
@@jwrefordj I'm far from being expert but I had my struggles myself...and apparently older pilots don't share "small details" Indeed you learn a lot from debriefing your own videos, I do the same... and I also get better understandings from other pilot's videos... so posting yt is good both ways 👍
Good job... don't be afraid of forward launches... you can always abort in the last moment if you feel the slightest thing not alright, it's simple :) My approach was to train my brain to take the takeoff decision in the very last moment right before accelerating the run, if everything looks good... the point was not to preset my mind with the takeoff decision in the early stage, at the risers pull, as it's "now or never" :)… this way you give yourself enough time to feel the symmetric pull and the wing feedback and be ready to let go if something doesn't look alright. And when there is enough room to run or to abort it's even better and it's fun :)
Thanks for the advice!
Nice flight. What a superb flying site. What is the red, white and blue marker on the ground at launch? We'd enjoy seeing a brief "tour" of your flying gear. Thanks!
Not sure about the colours. The cutaway track never used to be there but the farmer put it in for something to do with clay pidgeon/pheasant shooting...
Nicely done! Excellent piloting skills.
Well mate, I had water dripping my mouth on those thermals... 😂 Cross country day so it seems...
Nicely done. What a great flying site....but a bit intimidating.
It can be, but there's a safe beach below which I often use if conditions are more tricky...
A great memento from a lovely 2 weeks in Bulgaria, a pleasure to share it with you John 😊
For those interested in the unusual standing up posture of the pilot (me), it was our first go with the Handivol and with hind sight I don't think we needed the extenders connecting it to the tandem spreaders.
Love the high jeopardy music John!
