Jack Carey Tribute
I and Mary Ann Mercer had the honor of creating a tribute video for Mr. Jack Carey. I have known Jack for as long as I can remember. My dad and Jack Carey knew each other when they both danced at the Hollywood Palladium in the 1940's. This video documents some of the highlights of Jack Carey's Life. The video was first shown at Jack Carey's "Celebration of LIfe" event on October 27, 2013 at Jack Smith's Club House in Placentia, CA

Lance was quarterback for Taft HS in Woodland Hills, CA back in the mid-60's. A gifted athlete. Gone too soon.
I was sorry to hear that buddy passed away, I know him back when we competed against each other at the Grand hotel when singles exhibitions were the thing.
Thanks you for this. Ann Hirsch was my aunt. RIP to both....
Fabulous🎉
Good luck up there, I hope we dance together up there.
Jack was an excellent dancer. He made a lot of friends no matter where he went. Unfortunately Jack forgot he had 2 boys. A lot of grandchildren and great-grandchildren before he passed. Dancing was his whole world. You saw a different man than I did for 40 years. In the movie Living It Up was his wife Lorraine. The mother of his 2 children. I look at this Tribute and I say WOW!! how much my children, grandchildren, his son Ron my husband, missed so much of his Life. Jack you were the life of the party. Unfortunately you missed the best part of life, and that was your children and your grandchildren. That's what life is all about! Hope it was worth it!!
That was beautiful, love it❤❤
His event in VA (wish I recalled the name) was unique in bringing together every form of swing dance he could locate: Houston Whip, St Louis Shag, WCS, Carolina Shag, Lindy, Shim Sham, Smooth Lindy., DC Hand Dancing, Bop, Balboa, you name it. This reflected his approach to the dance, which, while very much about enjoying and spreading these dances, was truly that of an historian. He understood the value in giving all of these styles a platform and the respect they, and those who danced them, deserved. I do believe at the time, lacking youth and flash, that he was not understood by, and given the respect of, the wider dance community, which he richly deserved. If my recall is correct, he taught Swing in the military, which meant that he was instrumental in spreading Lindy around the world, as this is how the dance arrived on shores overseas. My condolences to the loved ones of the many people in (and posting) this video who are no longer with us.
wonderful dancer and MC
Benji dances like him which makes sense!!
What a life!
I miss you Uncle Lance!!
absolute LEGEND family!
What a Lady!! I have taken lessons from her and have held her in high regard for more than 40 years! Thank you for your immeasurable contributions to the world of dance.
Sweet> I was there and did 2 jumps. Talking to my daughter and wanted to show her and this is the only video of the ski splash. This is the reason I gave my 4 kids GoPro's. They need to document their life.
Wow he is actually better than his son considering everything that changed with modern dance is and requires
Love this!
Fantastic Debbie!
Legend...
No mention of his two boys. He wasn't much of a family man. It was all about him sad to say. He had kids, grandkids, and even great grandkids.
OMG, Benjii, so looks like his younger Dad!
So cool. The Schwimmer gift that keeps on giving. XO

That's awesome. That is now I our "to do" list... Have done swingouts in many places but never underwater...
Omg...! This is incredible. I went looking for Annie after talking to her at BbtB. She shared about jack and what's happened... we had such a beautiful moment with some tears and hugging. She also gave me a cookie! It was delicious.
The 1970's dance clip shows Buddy with Lynn Vogan, doing a disco routine that near the end of the clip includes a few moves from the Latin Hustle, a non-mirrored dance that came out a bit before the New York Hustle, which was a mirrored dance. The song is You Plus Me by Undisputed Truth.
Missing you Lance.......
I'm so glad to have met you at the various Lindy events. Thanks for sharing your love of dance with us. Your Charleston variations were so cool! I will always remember you.
Lance, you're a class act. Great job on this moving tribute to an amazing man and one of the greatest influences of our dance family worldwide.
A Lovely tribute for a Lovely man!!! Love to Annie!!!
A real visionary and inspiration. Without his hard work, often unappreciated at the time, the swing world of today might not exist. Personally, I owe him much and miss his friendship, expertise and guidance.
Nice job, Lance.
great tribute!
Love, Love, LOVE! Thanks for doing this and sharing it with everyone, Lance & Mary Ann. I'm going to watch this every day .... and smile! xoxoxoxo
