The bikes we choose to ride are not typically associated with Enduro. They are built for long distance travel, with large displacement engines, monster gas tanks, seats for two, and a couple of panniers. Most often found on dirt roads, loaded with luggage, and headed for adventure. Let’s be honest, that’s what they’re designed for, and that’s what they’re good at.
But here at HE, we just think they’re big dirtbikes. We are at the beginning of our UA-cam journey so we'd be grateful if you could like and subscribe. It helps us to create content that includes bike builds, gear reviews and race & adventure documentaries.

Corky at the Carta Rally 2024 on the KTM 990 Adventure in Morocco
Carta Rallye. My last rally done. It was a mixture of much pain and pleasure. The 990 impressed as always. It had some mechanicle issues (no working radiator fans on day 1 and the complete loss of coolant on day 2) but what a tough machine (certainly stronger than the rider). The bike was pretty stock and it definitely missed the bigger rad, extra fuel tanks and stiffer suspension the previous 950 had. Ended up 3rd in class and 12th overall.
Huge thanks to all the other competitors and the organisation for all their kindness.
A big thanks to the medics for the pain killers and anti inflammatories helping me to get through it.
Thanks to JD for following me down in the Hilux at the last minute and being my assistance. The spare radiator fan in the spares box was a stroke of genius.

Massive Thank you for your massive sharing of tips and knowledge on the 950 conversion, kudos from a 950 proud owner in Italy ❤💪🙏🏻
You are brave to ride your bike off road alone! I have a 990 adventure and I know how heavy it is. Cherrs from Brasil
Awesome looking machine.. What front mudguard is that? Love how compact it looks!

AJ was using an Acerbis universal front fender.
Welcome back in rally world 😁
Hi old friend. Hope all is well. It's like a drug and you keep going back for just one more. As much as I love competing, hanging up the race boots is long overdue. The body is just not willing and the race pace not acceptable. Will still be around supporting and working.
Way to go buddy I know you love getting back to the desert, dream ride for sure.
Bloody brilliant, well done indeed 👍
Thank you. Good times.
Assuming that she tips the scale at 200kg or thereabouts , how does she fair in the dunes? Must be a near WOT conditions at all times...
Fully fueled we are around a 1/4 of a tonne. The Big bikes fair just fine in the dunes of Merzouga. The extra horses just powers up the bigger stuff. The extra weight makes for a stable ride. Just a little more commitment/speed needed and you don't really want to be getting much air off the back of a dune. They don't like that much. The LC8 does need a bigger radiator ideally. The 950 that preceded this 990 had a custom bigger rad and oil tank placed elsewhere.
@@HeavyEnduroRacing I'm asking because I've put 110K kms on my 2009 990 and it never overheated in Greek summer conditions, but we obviously don't have dunes here. Just beach riding which is flat. I am in the market for my second 990. I sold the other one years ago and still regret it. P.S. if you had issues with the fan(s), like you wrote in the description, it's expectable to run hot. I don't think it needs a bigger radiator. Sand in the radiator fins could be another hindering factor?
@@C_R_O_M________ There was an issue during the race with a fan (we run 2) which was replaced and sorted. Also run a lower temp fan switch and have a manual override. The bike overheated quite a few times during the dune sections in this event. We have raced in Greece (Hellas) and others in the Balkans with no overheating on a standard rad. The dunes are just a massive load on the motor. Lots of high revs. Collectively we have done over 10 desert races in Africa on the LC8 including the Africa Eco Race. From 1st hand experiences a bigger rad is needed in these events. Most rally bikes run big rads and/or an oil cooler. Many thanks, Chris
@@HeavyEnduroRacing Hi there, Where did you make/buy your bigger rad please ?
@@49morton I used a guy here in the UK but they no longer make them. The reason is that we can't find anyone who will supply and/or curve the core needed. After Covid and Brexit companies went bust and things got crazy expensive. I wanted a 2nd rad for a project but we have had to give up. Sorry, I can't help.
Get too dakar .. get some merchandise made up we can buy to support you ✌😃
how can you get water in the fuel injector in the middle of desert tho...
It's in the fuel out there.
Muy inteligente
💖 *Promo sm*
I have a 990 08 m0del and absolutely agree with the carburettor being easier to ride . Instant power , far better torque . At low revs the injectors get confused and can give a jerky feel at low speed off road work . Not pleasant it necessitates a lot of clutch slipping . I have ridden the 950 carb version and it is a joy . Very forgiving , very much easier to operate with better torque therefore far better acceleration . Smooth and powerful . The injectors just can't match that . Kev Australia .
As I keep saying it's all personal preference. I agree with everything you've said though and I'm very happy with the current set up. Wishing you well. Happy trails.
Are you two the polish guys from England? The two who loose their Backpack and we gave it back to you at a Restaurant in „Borda de Agua“?
That's correct 😅
Oh crazy, the video came in my inbox and i thought „i know the bikes an the graffics“ an then i saw the full version of this. I remember all the tracks, Portugal is fantastic for Adv-riding! You guys are absolutly crazy, love it! Greetings from Germany 👋🏻
@@lpw1293 thank you buddy it was a blast there is plenty of hard tracks out there and we are definitely going back to get some more, thanks for looking after Filips back pack.
Nice one! Which crash bars did you mount?
these are outback motortek
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures thanks! Still unsure whether I‘ll mount some as well. But I think they don‘t fit with my already existing bash plate. Liked them and their practice test video 😄
Tenere ! my love ! very nice trails man ! cheers from Greece
Dude, great video!!! I love the grit and determination you had in this video!!! I am from the us, so many that I know would have gotten pissed, thrown something and said phuck it, it's ovrer... soft 'mericans... you rock amigo!!! Thank you for the content you have put out!!!
Thanks buddy it was a blast but definitely a hard one 😅
Thank you for this video!!! I have a 10 990 adv and have been very happy and satisfied with her... I don't have the big throttle issues most people complain about. But, but... after going through forums and such, it makes me want to buy a 950 and another 990 and convert it to carbs... me thinking, If I have been so very happy with what I have, if a 950 and a carb converted 990 IS that much snappier=happier, makes me want to try it out...
Ask said before this conversion suits my needs and works for my application. The 950 is definitely less thirsty. This is a good balance. Others have successfully taken a 990 and re-mapped and got rid of the snatchy nature of the EFI. There are people who are very skilled and know what they are doing in this area. I would also mention that parts are getting harder to find. The 950 timing wheel for example. All the best.
Lovely! Where in Portugal are you riding?
We were staying in alijó at this time.
wow looks very fun
Such a great bike
You can get Safari tank for the 950 which doesn't dramatically increase the weight of it
SICK bike fella, sick, i run mc 360 on my 500, pretty badass tyre for the cash and it is interesting to see it on a big bike, anyone who doesn't know that should tell you how strong the tyre is - currently saving for a 990
I'm in, looking forward to seeing progress 👍
Outstanding work but i think the conversion has voided street legality because of the altered emission control. I wonder if there will be problems at the next MOT!
No issues here in the UK.
Well done mate
As a 2004 950 owner I am really really looking forward to watching your build. Best of luck
That is going to be realy interesting build! Cant wait to see more!
Sounds another interesting project
Think your lads should do the voiceover work for you two from now 🤘😃
Looking forward to seeing this happen, there's a lot to do there. And it's good to hear that you are recovering from that damned Covid 👍
There is a bit to do on this one. Keeps me out of trouble and takes my mind off the darn lungs
Go for it! Film it all..
That's the plan. As long as people are interested. We already have a delay. The Rad guy is fully booked until maybe September. That's the trouble when they are good - they are always fully booked! All the best 👍
Nice config! Are you riding on mousses?
BIG FAN FROM NEPAL
Good to have you here
Bummer you had electrical issues, I felt those crashes you had and god it’s annoying if people don’t let you pass when you caught them anyway. Looks absolutely beautiful out there 🤙🏻
Porn for ears that is 😁
Hey man, I'm from Germany an race an old XTZ 750 Tenere with 950 frontend and Öhlins in the back - whatever you say it is 100 percent my feeling go big bikes. Coming also from light racing models like a Husaberg 400 ... Big bikes create more feeling. Thanks for your Chanel! Jörg
Great watch AJ well done mate
Who makes that headlight cover?
Bro, nice work 👏👏👏 Thank's for sharing. Satanist music it doesn't suit your work 😉
Outstanding workmanship and extremely useful detailed comment responses and parts list.
Thank you. I try to put as much info in as possible in these videos. All the best. Chris
Привет из Москвы счастливым людям!
Amaaazing video. Very inspirational. Keep it up 👍
Thank you. Positive messages are very much appreciated.
I've just deposited on a 990 Adventure today, getting it Wednesday, this is EXACTLY what i need to be doing with it.....
KTM strikes again 😂
To be honest that the first time in 3 years just very bad timing 😒
Albania is very nice country (just back from moto trip there) and the people are nice!!
That's very true people are great 👍🏻
there is something 'mad max' about this....
I love it !! Man the pain when shit breaks down like that, ghhhhhhhh.. feel your pain. I so want to go try out some rally's, thats for sure. Heavy Enduro is the way to go :D , for real men LOL
Thanks buddy, am sure you will have fun rally racing it’s a great adventure 👌🏻
Good riding buddy, but very aggressive 🤷 (subscribed to help you to grow your channel 👍)
Thanks buddy
Hey man, are you doing the Rallymoto events? In Wales?
Hi buddy Just noticed your comment, no I haven’t done any of them to be fair, I just go out with friends or or my own.
@@HeavyEnduroAdventures no probs, if you decide to do one of them, let me know. I do as many as I can. I am now saving money to get the twalcom quick release plate to replace the glovebox
