This is a brief demo of my recent weekend project, partially porting the popular visual novel Katawa Shoujo to the Atari Jaguar. I really love my Jaguar, and I always felt it deserved more games, so I've been trying my hand at development lately. Sadly, the lack of storage on a cartridge, and the lack of development tools for the CD system will likely prevent this particular project from ever g...

The ribbon is all sticky and coated in a glue like substance from the original r...

    Thanks for posting this. I totally forgot about that Vram upgrade option. I have an old Tangerine in the garage and I've not used it in years so I don't even remember if I upgraded it when I did, and if I ever put an SSD in or just a regular hard drive as well as how much ram I used. It's next on my list of "retro" computer stuff to mess with. I got my old Blue and white G3 going again with SSD a 32mb radeon 7000, an adaptec usb 2.0 card, an internal IDE card (which the system seems to see as SCSI) and a gig of ram as well as a super drive. Waiting to get a 64mb video card to arrive from Ebay. I think I'll have to flash it, maybe. One of the SSD's I have is running OpenBSD (no i'm not super techy, just trying out something that will run at an "okay" speed on this old machine) so not sure if it will recognize it without flashing the rom. No biggie if I have to flash it. I have 9.2.2 on one partion and osx on another partiion of another ssd drive. Just being able to make outdated computers run (and be able to get online) these days is kinda cool. BTW there's a browser called Classilla that works on OS9 that will allow you to get online and go to most websites. Since most modern websites have updated ssl stuff and none of the browsers made for classic mac have been updated.

      Is there any reason at all to have >32MB VRAM on a classic Mac like this? The hope here was to get extra color resolution, since the built in CRT can do 1024x768 and 32-bit color, but 6MB of RAM does not permit this combination. I believe it was limited to 24-bit or even 16-bit color at XGA. I've never attempted to run SSDs in any of these machines.

    • @AiOinc1
      @AiOinc1 10 місяців тому

      No, there are no samples here. Without a background in assembly, you are unlikely to make any music quite as good as this. The "complex waves" come to exist because of the nature of the TIA's sound generator, which is a mere 5-bit divider that can select it's input from a few different internal signals, which have to do with video generation. There is some kind of composer program out there for it, but keep in mind that it is extremely difficult since the TIA cannot produce very many notes, only 31 in each range and they are not spaced in a sane way. It was never meant to generate music. To get anything in tune, you will need to do a lot of trills.
