Round Miles - 2022 Documentary
Приєднався 20 гру 2021
‘Round Miles is a 2022 documentary film about one of music’s greatest innovators, Miles Davis. Shot in the summer of 2008, ‘Round Miles is a tour de force, unique retrospective through the eyes of six Jazz legends without the traditional input of critics, disc jockeys, and record producers. An intimate discussion about Davis, the plight of the Jazz musician in America, and struggles with racism, drug use, and most of all..the music.
Six Jazz legends gather at the Catalina Jazz club to discuss the style and personality of Miles Davis. We filmed this as research for the 2015 film, Miles Ahead, but the conversation turned out to be so compelling, we decided to release it as a standalone documentary. Thirteen years after shooting it, we are pleased to present a fascinating glimpse into America’s one true art form - jazz. While the conversation centers around Miles Davis, you get a rare insight into the genre through the eyes of six of its greatest practioners.

37:15 Freddie Hubbard: "Trumpet players don't get past 70. I'm knockin on wood." Freddie died 6 months later, at 70 years old.
What an interesting, unpretentious, great group of guys.
In college 1971 or 72 ,bitches brew had come out I bought the album and was playing it loud in the dorm in my room. I could hear everything up close, but other students would approach me and would ask me, who was practicing playing their trumpet in the dorm. They didn't know it was a record because all they heard was the trumpet. That's when I understood the genius of the album. Miles had a vision that eclipsed a lot of listeners who thought that they had a profound understanding of the music. Ornette Coleman had that type of vision early on before standard musicians found their footing, including Miles and trane. I used to practice using ornette Coleman's music because he fit my aspirations even more than Trane. In total Miles was the trend setter. The most profound musicians never craved exposure. These musicians were the ones who Trane and others sought out to learn from. These guys couldn't stomach the average musician. Mccoy tyner was going to sever his relationship with Trane, because the music was not discernable enough for him.
Where are his paintings?
Miles used to visit slugs club in nyc to recruit talent.he was the ultimate chameleon.i guess the scary look like hurricane didnt help.no real bio on his real life.
In my Hood on A FULL MOON NIGHT WE SAY, The MOON IS HIGH & SO AM I.❤
Miles and Prince both Gemini, both kept moving and changing. Both genius.
I always figured jazz dudes for smokin weed cause they were so cool and laid back
The jazz magazine, Down Beat, did an anonomys test with musicians. They played, they smoked weed, played againand then they listened to the recording. They said, when they were high, it sounded good to them. But when they heard the playback they all agreed their playing was worse.
Miles and Coltrane, they spoke Truth.
I remember Miles Davis. He was a heroin addict with a sour personality and a band that was ALWAYS better than he was. Time will erode his reputation once New York has collapsed.
Thank you, beautiful convos
Jazz expose. The final horror. Miles Davis is the boyzone of jazz. The ballad commercial masonic horror never ends
God, I love the conversation these music giants are having. Freedie Hubbard had such a melodious voice---and he cracked me up with that description about how women would react to listening to Miles play.
SOMEBODY please go straighten up those drums!
I remember in the late 80s Adam was working at Goodman Music in North Hollywood. Greg Philinganes came into the store and Adam was trying to cop Greg’s diminished scale licks. It was shortly after that he got the call from Miles
ask coltrane is CRAZYY
Spacing was just as important as the notations. Miles was one hep cat.
What's the positive and negative on weed? Any experience? I'd guess you'd probably forget the standards? I can totally attest that your technique goes away with alcohol. Intonation bye bye.
You don't forget a song stoned if you actually know that shit
yeah you will just forget shit and see unicorns
The difference between Miles & everybody else is that you can put on Miles when in the company of a woman & they'll get it. No matter the race or music tastes. Even if they aren't into jazz. I discovered this in my 20s & have tested it repeatedly over the years. His playing has a romantic tone to it...The Ladies can really hear him.
wonderfully put, ill try this lol
Talk about a musical talent...
🙏🏾
foley was a TOTAL waste of time. Idiot.
Loved it, sound was great.....why no credits for the production sound mixers? Mike Lavallee ... sound mixer Joel Petersen ... sound mixer
to be honest the sound on this was kinda bad
Great interview. I've always loved Mr. Holzman's performances. Also, the Doors work...
Wow what a story
Is that mr James moody ?
20:23 I feel what he saying. Though the chords helps the note… miles played the note that no one played. You would’ve thought it was just luck. But as I listen to his songs he just has those “fit ems” lol thanks for sharing
Star signs are irrelevant we are all human and all from god and capable of having natures that desire changes as change is nature
FOLEY!!! WHERE IS TK?
You know there’s something about this interview that makes your heart warm, just listening to people who really love music.
is this the full cideo?
It's worth mentioning that talking about mood of "Kind of Blue" and right way and right people to play it, Bill Evans is never mentioned by this distinguished group of Black musicians, yet the whole concept of "Kind of Blue" came from him and, at the time, he was one the few musicians able to play modal jazz and was one of the originators of that style.
You might want to listen again. 4:06 Marcus Miller says his name!!!!
He was such a talent. But to be honest, Joey is really struggling to even breathe here, listen to it. He could be alive today if he'd drop the weight much earlier. By the time he lost some weight, the damage to his heart was already done. We keep losing these people due to stupid shit like that.
Mathmaticly
Thanks Round Miles Channel- For about 30 years now I ve wanted to know what the hell Tutu was all about. I thought Miles wrote it. Instant Subscriber. God bless UA-cam man. Time for me to start singing melodies so I can play them Thank you You tube for the real story on Tutu
Facts. Problem is it doesn’t last and the negatives greatly outweigh the positives and you get sick as hell and can’t play at all
I just love listening to these brothers , a great jazz documentary I just listen over and over and over again
The beginning 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 legendary footage
Miles loved Foley, Miles loved and respected Foley's youthful spark that came out in his playing...Honesty. I heard Miles lament that he did not find Foley earlier, because Miles looked and listened to many guitar players to find the right feel and sound that Floey has.
Joey D, missing you big time already. I can see you were in some degree of pain and ill health in this video. I hope you didn't suffer too much in your final years.
Incredible ❤
Fantastic this was like going to church amazing amazing thank you so much
RIP Joey D. 🕊
Cool....
freddie hubbs
They should go to the schools and give tips on how to dress.
LOL
They are so cool!
Ron Carter was very honest about Miles as a person, more honest than most.
Yes, I guess there’s the music and the man. Both are true.
So cool love hearing about Miles. I saw him in St Louis backing up Herbie Hancock when he got sick and went to the hospital. Possibly his worst performance.
Love this guy, seen him many times with Miles. Like he said, I noticed often how Miles played a particular note for any of his musician play a solo.!! Like he did with Benny Rietvelt playing “Me and U” in Munich in 88, great base solo! I miss those years seeing all these amazing musicians live, as much they miss playing with Miles!
