Finished Objects, Buying Too Much Yarn & Other Updates / a Knitting Podcast from ThatsWhatSkeinSaid
Hello hello!
Today I bring you an ever-chaotic knitting podcast. I have finished up a few objects in the last few months, made good progress on one long-term WIP, and cast on a couple of summer tops. Additionally, I have been spending too much money on yarn (as per usual). What summer projects do you currently have on your needles? What's your favorite summer yarn? Let me know in the comments!

Nimble Needles Norman has few great men's sock patterns.
They say to freeze your mohair to make it easier to work with.
I’m gonna try this!!
Try camping socks by Tania barley! My husband loves them and she has other patterns that would work too.
So cute! I’ll show my boyf and see what he thinks! Thanks for the suggestion 💞
Great episode! Glad you didn't have to impale yourself. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
as much as i love tamara’s patterns, i never saw myself making that one until i saw yours and now i need one asap!!!! and i appreciate u making the halibut bc it’s on my need knit list but i’m terrified of it lmao
I love the sweet nothings pattern! It’s so simple and easy to make, it was really relaxing to knit up! The halibut on the other hand… is proving to be a struggle lol
I‘ve knit 3 Halibut sweaters and am very curious how yours will turn out. The yoke is definitely too long and also, the crew neck shaping seems to be a little off. I still fell in love with the colorwork and will soon knit the Halibut cardigan. 😊
Omg THREE halibuts??? What color combos have you done?? How long did they take?? I’m so impressed
@@thatswhatskeinsaid Oh, thank you! 🥰 I did a black/white one for me and my partner and a dark blue/electric blue one for a friend. Took me ages, haha. Probably 50+ hours per sweater?
You can never have too much sock yarn
First thing I ever said to you actually
the fishie is so cute wth 😱😱😱
I cannot recommend this pattern enough, I am obsessed with it
With a nice variegated yarn I'd say knit vanilla or just 2x2 ribbed socks. Let the yarn do the work of being pretty.
I was kinda thinking that too!
Girl your Podcast is gold😄🧡
I agreeeee
You're so funny!! I cracked up several times watching this. "I'm not putting my feet on the internet... for free" 🤣 Your Halibut sweater is looking amazing, don't be too scared about the yoke mod! After you split for sleeves and join the jumper in the round, you'll be able to tell pretty quickly if the yoke depth is good or not. In the worst case, you'll have to unravel some rows to get back to adjust the yoke depth, but trust me you'd rather do that than have a swoncho lol. (My first ever circular yoke sweater is pretty uncomfortable to wear due to this exact issue). Good luck with the move! They're never easy 🙏
Thank you so much for the reassurance about the Halibut yolk, this genuinely made me feel a lot better about it! I think I might also put in a lifeline before I split just in case I do need to go back a few rows… thank you so much for being so helpful and nice and encouraging ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would say a fantastic sock pattern for variegated yarn is Summer Lee's Mermaid Avenue Socks...as far as men's socks, I like Tin Can Knits Rye Light. They're great. My husband loves the pair I made him ❤️ Really enjoy your podcast! Cheers!
I LOVE the Rye socks!! Gonna have the boyf check them out and see if those are the ones! Thanks for the suggestions!!!
Woah, thanks UA-cam algorithm for suggesting your channel to me! 🥰 Love how you comment not only the design itself, but also the designer, size range, suggested fibres etc. Plus you're really funny and have good insights. Subscribed!
Omg you’re so sweet, thank you!!! Glad the algorithm brought you here 🩷🩷
I am SO ready for fish girl summer
No wayyy I’m crochet to knit as well and I cannot figure out how to continental. I want to, cause continental seems way faster! The holes are too small for me to do all that yarn maneuver 😂
Keep practicing!! You will get the hang of it eventually! Also maybe try larger needles
Thank you so much for this great video! So many great patterns! You are adorable. And really funny. 😍
Thank you for the incredible run down of summer projects. Wow, you did a lot of work and brought several to light to me. Thank you so much.
Yay!! I’m so glad you found some new patterns
Thanks!
First time watcher, drinking coffee, musing on possibly subscribing and then 11:45 -- WHAM hit the button
Awesome podcast ❤
Omg, I'm so excited to see a pattern by another Polish person!! The rybka pouch is actually pronounced more like "rib-kah", it literally means "fishie" and that makes the pouch all the more adorable. I'm still a knitting beginner but this fish girl summer I gotta at least try to make one too.
Omg thank you for the pronunciation guidance, that is genuinely very helpful!! I just finished my first pouch and I think it’s totally do able as a beginner knitter!!! I believe in you!!!!!! Fish girl summer is about trying new things and also about the friends we make along the way 😌
Lovely roundup, thanks :))
Lovely collection. The background waves sound is distracting and not necessary.
I didn’t add a background sound but there is a very real possibility I forgot to turn off my white noise alarm clock before filming lolllll apologies on behalf of the management
YAY! I got a gold star, lol. Thanks for doing this round up. I’m off to your bundle to save quite a few to my bundles. HUGS 🤗
You get an extra special bonus gold star(s) ⭐️🌟✨💫 glad you found some pattern inspo!!!
please don't do a neutral lol i followed you because you're making cute fun designs, not the millionth neutral lol
Wait what did I say I was gonna do a neutral for?? If it’s any consolation I just ordered some poppy orange and bright pink yarn from a pre-order (Savanah Rose Handmade’s Midsommar collection) so I can assure you the fun colors aren’t going ANYWHERE
@@thatswhatskeinsaid the skort, tbh it looks quite frumpy on the (already super skinny) model, so idk. i LOVE your "iso mrs" top, knitting youtube is so boring lol there must be a lot of people looking for fun creative content, im guessing thats why your channel is successful
I think it could be super fun in that aforementioned bright pink… time will tell on that one. And thank you! That piece was apart of my senior capstone for my English degree so it will always have a very special place in my heart! I’m glad it resonates with others 🩷 thanks for the insights about what you think is working with my channel- this is valuable info and is very appreciated!!!
What yarn shop in eastern WA did you go to? That's so crazy... I went to one in Moses Lake and the lady was so nice!
It was in the Tri-cities 🫣 like half of the reviews for the shop on Google report similar experiences unfortunately
Such a useful review! Great presentation and thank you for making the ravelry bundle!
Your so sweet and pleasant😍
Some libraries may also have old knitting magazines on microfiche or other storage media. I have managed to find a few that way! The size ranges are not what we use today (large is not a large now) but still CUTE.
This is SUCH a good idea. We love libraries on this channel 😤👆📚💞
Watching, drinking coffee in my sweats because for some reason the PNW has decided to delay summer this year. Blah. Thanks for this round up. I’ve saved tons more patterns to ravelry. ❤
On the bright side at least we get to wear our fall/winter knits essentially year round lol
This is true! I always find myself less inclined to make summer knits because it’s such a short season. But want to make at least one a summer. So I need to get on that.
Omg I have been searching for a replica for one of my tops and the Stella top is perfect! Thank you!
YAY I’m so glad!!
loved your video!!
Just found your channel and I love your aesthetic! I’m obsessed with the sweater you’re wearing too and I’d love to know the yarn details if you made it ☺️ I may have missed it if you already mentioned it 🫢
Thank you so much!! This is the cloud sweater by Petite Knit and I used “Le Lambswool” and “Le Petit Silk and Mohair” from Biches & Bûches both in the shade “Soft Gold”
FYI the valley cardigan is on the designers website in English too!
This is major
i'm finishing up a bolero with a fish motif, it really is fish girl summer 😭 this is crazy
Omg NEED to see pics of this
Wonderful episode! Great pattern ideas. Thanks so much for you time
Thank YOU for your time ❤️
You and Ivy are adorable and informative! Subscribing!
Two of the patterns are in my library already so it really inspired me to knit them sometime this summer. Forgot the name of sweater you liked but it is a another language, I bought a summer (Daydream Tee) which is in Danish so I tried to google translate but is not very accurate, then I just opened the pattern copied and paste into chat gpt and it worked. Give it a try
Wait this is such a good idea… I think you just saved my Danish best friend a few hours of translating. Much appreciated on her behalf lol
My cat also eats all my pens and pencils! And my yarn. And my hooks and/or needles. And ribbon. And hair. And random stuff off the floor.
I’m so glad it’s not just my cat that does these things lolllll
Great podcast. Your humor is delightful and the cat!! One of mine would totally be doing the same thing with the pencil!
Love the Vegas Top! Ivy is adorable 🥰
Omg I love your picks, the Vacation Vest and Kylie Pullover are also in the running for my summer knits! I'm also in Seattle and also have a cat who is a monster, watching with her by my side while knitting a sock rn 💖glad to have found your channel!
Omg hi!! Message me on insta!! I’m trying to start a super casual knitting group in Seattle!!!
@@thatswhatskeinsaid ahhh that's so exciting, I can always use more knitting meetups :) will message you now!!
These are thing that make me wish I didn’t live across the water from Seattle
Love fishgirlsummer 🐠🐟🎣 And lol Ivy is a mood!
a great dupe for the vacation vest is the claudia top (its a free pattern!)
Omg love a dupe, thank you!! I looked it up and the designers name is Dani Ruiz for anyone wondering!!! Super cute pattern
Love this video! You’re so cute. And Ivy too! 🥰
She’s the real star of the show here 🐈⬛
Wait your cat is named Ivy? I have an Ivy too!
Twins! What’s your Ivy’s nickname(s)?? Mine is Bean as in Ivy Bean, Ms. Bean, Beanie, Bean Bean, Beanie and the Jetts, etc (it’s a reference to a children’s book series called Ivy and Bean that I adored as a kid)
Super informative! 🧶
Watching this video while sipping hot tea and knitting mittens and a teapot cosy... a vibe.
This is how it’s done folks
Loving this vibe <3 <3 <3 far away from Berlin :)
I love your episodes and your sense of humor. I can't wait to see your fish bag, and those socks are hilarious. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
You’re the best, thank you! Happy knitting!!! 🫶
Fun episode! I made the Vegas top, but I wouldn’t classify it as “super chill “because of all the I- cord edging. Just a heads up.😊
No because you’re so right, that was an oversight on my part lol. That much I-cord is definitely not super chill, I formally rescind that statement hahaha. How did it turn out though?! What color and fiber did you use?!
