Genuine question to you as a sensei, if Wing Chun is so good why doesn't anyone in MMA use it?
@@tazskelton2194 Jon Jones is a champ with mostly the oblique kick,.....most of the things WC uses for self defense are not allowed in the ring.
I'm not at sensei level yet and my style is different than Wing Chun. However, based on the knowledge that Wing Chun as a martial art was developed for smaller people to defend themselves against larger attackers. Plus the fact that many really useful martial techniques are not allowed bc mma/ufc combatants are fighting mainly for ego/bragging rights & a gold strap instead of fighting to the death, or to end their opps possibility of working and caring for their family(s). Good Sense says the truly best fighters of any martial arts style do NOT seek the commercial status of a mma/ufc fighter. Btw, the intent of my response is in NO way, shape, form, or fashion an attempt to detract from the high level of skill & dedication that the mma/ufc fighters' are competing. These folks are all dangerous in their own right and naturally they deserve respect as such. Well, at least those fighters who comprehend that respect is given where respect is earned. To get respect one must give respect! 💯❤️👍🏾
@@dreaddyhaha2838 well said, some of the best fighters will never be known. I stopped seeing wing chun as art for smaller weaker people, rather I see it as refining ones natural reflexes in a martial way and being able to to expand techniques and tactics infinitely!
WC works primarily at clinch range (although it can be adapted to a more "duel" striking/kicking range), and you DO see a lot of stuff that is in Wing Chun (and often shared with other southern Chinese styles, and Okinawan styles of karate) used in MMA...but generally it's not going to look like an Ip Man movie.
@@zaneivy yes, it's mostly a close range system, but after you learn the system, you can expand it to Whatever you want it to be! It is set up to be infinitely expandable. The ip man movies are showing you what's possible, in real life, there won't be any long exchanges, it's short and to the point!

would love to see this against an actual boxer throwing proper punches. just to see if its effective in a real situation and if you can do that move when someone with a strong arm is going after you. would be great if you could set that up. thanks for the video
@@TREW24-r4k if I speed up, they say slow down so they can see it... Plus I have to make sure not to hurt the student! It'll work against big and strong because you take them off balance!
The magic is being able to flow from one technique to another And have a planned counter IF they might be able to get out of it..... Have many traps!
@@modern_wing_chun Hi, thanks for the reply. i get all that, i like the video and the breakdown of the move, very informative, i wasn't criticising in that respect. i'm just really curious whether its an ultra effective real world fighting tool or just a sport kind of thing. i wonder if anyone in MMA uses it for example or there's videos around? 🤔
@@TREW24-r4k no one in the mma could use these jointlocks as they aren't allowed. I teach real world self defense. I appreciate your feedback, it helps me to try to answer these type of questions in my videos. The main takeaway that I can share, is to learn a whole martial system, because every martial art has its own way of doing jointlocks.
And me
It looks open to counter attack defence...that said I take your point about "off balance"...otherwise that wouldn't work at all.

yeah but boxing is cooler
@@jessestinkman wing chun is boxing with specialized hand techniques, kicking and grappling,... Boxing is just hands!... It's OK, but one slice of the pie!
@@modern_wing_chunwhy are you deleting comments, cause you know you're a flop.. they were the slowest wettest punches in human history. Re do it with a boxer not a dude from revenge of the nerds
"What's the most challenging part of learning Wing Chun for you?"
Throw a couple of punches.. dude throws the slowest, wettest punches in human history.. remake the video with a boxer throwing lightning punches and your lights are out.
Get a boxer and try that, not a dude from revenge of the nerds.. they were the slowest wettest punches in human history
I don't know about this one...This move would work if you were a bouncer in a nightclub but not on the street. I been in a few scraps in my unremarkable life and I feel a response to an arm grab almost automatically a punch to the face or if they're going down they're gonna hit you in the groin as soon as they know what happened to them because you've moved towards them and pulled them towards you. It puts you at a serious disadvantage. My two cents for what its worth. I could be totally wrong because I ain't Steven Segal, akido expert.

@@ekim96 looks are deceiving, I'm actually free, you couldn't get in! My sticky hand is very controlling
@@ekim96 obviously you're not familiar with other versions of chi sau, dap sau. It's less constrictive and has more range to move
I dont know where you are and not gonna waste my time, go chi sao another nearby master and see what they do against your structure and stance, you can do whatever works for you respect to that but teaching other ppl in a manner without structure like this will get them hurt without a proper foundation, there are no pros to having gaps and structure like that when you can do all the same things with proper form and structure lol really just keep your elbows in and stance upright you can circle your hands as wide out as you want 😂
@ekim96 thanks for your concern, but I do teach my students proper structure and elbows tucked in, but there are other ways to use same concepts. Wing chun isn't the only way. There are multiple sensitivity hands, you probably haven't experienced other ways to do things in martial arts. As you go up in skill and understand more, you'll find that internals, song, silk reeling changes the game when it comes to controlling an opponent!
