Tour de Frank Day 1 - TAC PE 5: XB Miata
Day one of this years two day tour at Milton Frank. Wasn't in a rush to upload this, but the half-dry track made for some sliding that might be fun to watch. Took first place by a mere 0.014 sec over Michael V, but he took the lead of the tour the following day with a great final run.

My 3rd session at Jzilla's "Barberque" track weekend. This was my first time on Barber's road course, and the first time running this car on a full size track, running a little less boost than normal to test the cars endurance capability.

ending drifto was slow :( turbo NA6, 225 Kumho V730, 15x9, many suspension things, no aero mods. Very much a shakedown event after having the car apart for a while, I am pleased to have no issues throughout the day. First in class by ~0.3

properly butchered the hairpin, keeping me out of the 52's. Nevertheless I figured I should post some raw driving now that this car is somewhat setup. 93 NA6, TD04hl turbo, 2.5in catless exhaust, 205/50r15 dunlop z3, spec miata bilstein setup with 550lbs f 350lbs r, nb front sway bar.

Triumph Spitfire Mk3 Exhaust Mic Test
Nice, very nice.
I just watched this again… looks like there is entry oversteer in many places…actually maybe after every input, but not necessarily loose steady state. You might consider playing with rear rebound which may allow your steering inputs to be more committal and less need for counter steers. Fantastic car control btw.
Good observation, and thanks for the compliment. This is Daniel's car, and he generally has smoother inputs than I do. This works well with a car that is sensitive to yaw. Additionally, we were testing Bridgestones as opposed to the usual Kuhmo tires the car had been tuned on, and while there was a little more grip, the rear breakaway was more sudden than before. We considered messing with the dampers during the event, but ultimately agreed to leave the car as is. I can't help but think of the run that could've been if I didn't lose so much time sliding around at the northwest end of the stadium. Would you consider increasing rear rebound damping to reduce pitch at initial turn in, or decrease it to aid rear tire contact with the ground?
@WTGRacing - likely softening. I would test the current settings for 2 runs (4 with codriver), then soften for run 3. This way you get everything warm and steady state. If you have good dampers, it will be apparent if the change is helpful. If you’re under damped, you could need to stiffen, but it appears that softening will help.
I would suggest the smallest increment that you will actually feel.
@@ckrampertracing thanks for the input.
Great driving as always! Nice job!
Awesome run!!
Dropped a valve
Very nice run, Cameron. You were flying.
67 in 2nd gear? Do you even have a rev limiter? 😂
Slightly lower final drive ratio than what the car came with stock. Much better than having to sit on the limiter through a slalom!
The skills it take to do that alone is insane. 😂
Fantastic driving. Which event is this?
Thank you! Twickingham Auto Club, this was their first autocross of the season.
Awesome driving skills.
Thanks Johnny!
Looks like a fun little car, ive gotta get my turbo project finished here to start my race season in canada! Cheers
it was a blast to drive this past weekend. Good luck on your project!

gread vid, def deserves more views! I'm curious did adding the turbo setup make your car feel any different as far as weight balance??
the car is slightly more nose heavy than an otherwise stock NA, but the difference is small enough that I cannot tell. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@WTGRacing word. My buddy has a 2.5 swapped NC and he swears up and down that the weight made no difference but to me it feels off.
Sort of did the same thing at the finish on my final run. It was not the best line lol. You seemed to make the best of a bad line tho. Good driving.
Giggle
How was the 14x5.5 with the falken tires, thinking of this set up myself.
cheap but effective. This was my first 200tw tire setup, and got me into a competitive groove at autocross. The tall sidewall made gearing a tiny bit longer, and the steering a little more vague/heavy. You can now get the new RT660s in that same size, which is a much faster tire. If I were to put another 200tw on a Daisy, I would use the stock size (185/60) Dunlops, or 185/55 AO52's to make the car feel more light on its feet.
Alway rember happi day

Whats done to the Spitfire performance wise?
Free flowing headers, exhaust, richer carb needles, a bit of port polishing, and electric ignition. Enough to just wake it up a bit, nothing dramatic.
Great run or runs. I have been seeing a whole lot of Spitfires doing well in autocross.
Sorry for the rattley, jingly audio. Audio recorder was in the centre console, which contained coins, combs, hairdryer, and other usual miata driver stuff.
Really good driving
thank you sir! It was definitely a fun course for this car
