Not so Adjustable Now! Ryvid Anthem Seat Actuator Mod
I've put in almost 800 miles on my Anthem and so far, it's been almost perfect! The only problem: When I got it, the adjustable seat was stuck at the lowest position. After some back-and-forth with Ryvid support I came up with my own solution, replacing the actuator with a solid support bar from a local metalwork shop. My seat isn't adjustable now, but it's locked at the max height which is where I wanted it anyways!

The AQ177 Pro Max has the biggest battery I've ever seen on an e-bike... was this monster made in Texas?! The downside of all that juice is a Texas-sized curb weight of 116 pounds... no sir, this electrified bicycle is not for the faint of heart. The simple answer to can a battery be too big I think is yes...... even the smaller batteries seem to come apart at the seams over time I don't think that their structurally sound and they don't seem to care..... they are dangerous and the smaller the less dangerous
Seems like the right thing to do is to get the electric actuator to function properly. It may help if you ever consider selling your emoto.
The actuator itself works, I suspect it's a slight warp in the frame that causes it to get stuck at the lowest setting. The trouble is that once the actuator is locked up, the only way to get it working again is to plug it in to some sort of control unit and re-calibrate it. I don't have any of those tools or know-how 🤷🏻
@@ElectronRiderTech Thanks for your perspective. Why doesn't Ryvid help you with this. Is it under warranty? How good is their customer support? Those are important service questions I have prior to purchasing one of their e-motorcycles. Thanks again.
@SilverShadow2LWB Ryvid Support was helpful, they responded right away and sent me a replacement actuator. Unfortunately, the same problem happened with the second one, which led us to suspect it might be a warp in the frame causing the issue. Their support team was willing to continue working on it but it would have taken awhile because Ryvid doesn't really have any of their own service centers yet. I'm not sure what they would have done, but I would have probably had to wait until the next time one of their techs was traveling in the area and possibly drive a ways to meet them somewhere. Ryvid being a new company and not having a service center network is a valid concern for sure. All of the motorcycle components on the Anthem are standard things that any motorcycle shop would be able to work on. However, if something goes wrong with the electronics that are unique to the Anthem, it's going to be hard to find a repair shop that will handle it. Ryvid will send replacement parts under warranty and instructions for how to do the work, but you might end up having to do it yourself if there aren't any qualified mechanics in your area. For me personally, as I didn't care about the seat adjustability, it was easier to just "fix it myself" with the solid bar support.
This is nice. I owned a 2017 rad mini and it was very rough riding because it had no shocks, and it was about the size of a dirt bike, it wasn't "mini". This seems to be the right size
Another talking head... Really? Name the other magnesium frames... They started out at $700 under the Onebot brand... Same bike. Also called Ducati MG 20, Hikari, Energiz and 7 others. You can roll it folded ( It has a 3rd wheel under the crank) you don't need to lug the 44 lbs. Not even halfway... 👋 Yeah, I own 4 under different brand names. You really know nothing right?
Yet another example of the cottage industry of e-Reviewer Clowns doing a ridiculous video on crap ChiComm e-Bikes not suited for these types of trails. You'll never see either one of these e-MTBs on any trail in SoCal or in the SW. No one rides hard tail e-MTBs, let alone one with a heavy rear drive motor. These guys are poster Boyz for the mountain bike community who cite that inexperienced out of shape riders will be taking crap eMTBs on to trails they shouldn't be on, and get in trouble. Let me guess Aventon and Velotric let you keep the bikes, so you will sell them on CraigsList to support your lifestyle?
What is their customer service like when a repair is needed?
I don't have any direct experience but I've heard more stories of negative experiences than positive ones. The general theme seems to be that getting replacement parts can take a long time and sometimes it's difficult to get them to cover things under warranty.
Being inseam challenged LOL, I would most likely have the seat at the bottom. As much a I appreciate the ability to adjust seat height electrically, it's just another possible point of failure as you have shown. Your solution is the best! Ryvid may want to consider the option of just selling seat rods at one-inch length increments in the future. I had an R6 back in the day and changed the seat height with an aftermarket dog bone. You may want to patent this!
The metalwork shop did tell me they can mass produce a bunch of them now if I want 🤔
@@ElectronRiderTechjump on my that while you can.
@@ElectronRiderTechHow tall are you?

With the BMS you shouldn't be able to run the battery fully dead. Its kinda fool proof so people dont need to worry about potentially damaging the battery.
Just got a Summit - definitely agree regarding the gearing on the bike - stock you will need to use the throttle on longer steeper hills. Swapping the chainring and cassette would likely help with this, but as configured I can't do more than 5-6mph up a steep hill unless I use the throttle. That said, the Summit absolutely flies on flats with slight rolling hills and would leave the Ramblas in the dust. I tried a Ramblas at a dealer, and it is much better on the climb compared to the Summit and is certainly closer to a true eMTB. Which is better depends on the riding you like to do.
Great video! How does the suspension handle and the fact that it is a hard tail, or would getting a full sus for $500 more be more efficient?
Thank you! Considering how gnarly that trail was, full suspension would have been nice 😅 I bent the saddle on the Ramblas pretty badly, although I'd attribute that more to my lack of skill than any fault of the bike. Personally though I'm fine with it being a hardtail, at least for now. Planning to do a lot more riding on it so we'll see how I feel a few months down the line...
@@ElectronRiderTech Also need to pop the bike seat back same happened after a fall . I feel the difference with full suspension but fun outweighs the butt pain at 67 still grinding with ebike hopefully cancer free!
@@richdome1 that's awesome to hear! keep on rolling 😎 We were able to pop the Summit seat back, but on the Ramblas I actually bent the horizontal bars that are part of the saddle 😱

How long is the life of a bike battery before you have to replace it?
Typically maximum capacity will degrade to 70% in 2-3 years. It will usually still work fine after that, but range and maximum power are a lot less. It also depends on use and care. Non-removable batteries like this to tend to degrade faster because they are often left out in the elements, extreme heat and cold are very rough on lithium ion cells 😬
@@ElectronRiderTech thank you. How hard would it be to change that battery out?
No problem! For this bike, you’d need a shop mechanic to do it - ideally an Iconic Ebikes dealer. Any experienced repair shops would be able to, but they’d have to get the replacement battery from Iconic since it’s fairly unique to this frame. It would still be possible to do if Iconic was no longer in business, but more difficult. There are third-party companies that do “battery re-packing” where they replace the cells, and can work with any type of Ebike battery.
Thank you! This was a very nice review of the Iconic Ultralight bike! Thank you for your quick and informative reply to my questions. 😊
The best review I've seen. Very personable. Good job my man!👍
Thank you!
i seen lot of ads of this bike about how big is the battery but no one honest check about the range 🤡
yeah better a long distance then long name
Very nice review, I am exact same height as you (195cm is 6ft3 right?) and I borrowed it from a friend for 2 days. The thing I am worried about, is it being an unknown brand, being so cheap and no customer service, and very low quality tires, that I get stranded like 50 miles from home... So I would get range anxiety anyway haha. In my country no bicycle repair shop wants to touch fatbikes, and I definately won't be putting on a new tire in the rear myself 🤣 Would love for you to review the Himiway Big Dog, which is first on my list atm... Need a new e-bike after my 2019 Unimoke got stolen this winter 😖 Greetings from the Netherlands!
Maybe you should say "massive" a few more times. There are other words in our language that highlight the same point.
Thanks for that massively helpful tip!
I'm so psyched. Got one of these on the way.
You're gonna love it! 😎
@@ElectronRiderTech Agreed!! This thing is incredible. I can't wait to get some slick tires on it. I just figured out how to get it to go 28 mph. Oh, boy! And it pulls my trailer fully loaded, up some steep ass hills. I'm in northern VT and the roads suck. Thanks for the vid. It was very influential in my purchase. I guess that makes you an influencer. lol
@@ElectronRiderTechgot one too!!! Hopefully a few days. I just fear the assembly.
Watch your hub motor temp as it gets hot in the summertime. I have an AQ177 Pro Max and had overheating problems last summer 2023.
How should I prevent this? I want to buy one exactly for this summer
Min. 4:33 it's an option for solar charging
They should have 2 models a "Papasmrf" with saddle bags and a "Smrfette" ladies bike with a suspension seat post and different colours. They would clean up. Here's the problem. Let's compare my cheepo Gotrax EBE8 compared to this bike for about $750 USD roughly compared to the $2300 SMRFS bike. My bike with a slightly larger battery is 52lbs with the 15amp battery so it's even easier to go on a bike rack especially if you take the battery off. It has 2.4 inch wide tires which is almost the same as the 3.0 inch but even less rolling resistance. My bike has a cadence sensor so there are 5 PAS speeds effectively instead of a torque sensor. After buying a $20 unlocked display it bumped the speed up to 23mph. The throttle will go right up there with you pedaling without limiting the speed without overriding the pedals or throttle. Mine has a cruise control that is manually operated with holding down the minus key. I've ridden this bike in literally tropical torrential downpours and down to -10C on salted roads and it's totally fine and rust free. I get an honest 40 miles of range throttle only(yes I tested it) out of the 500w, 750w peak motor. I've recently put a 52v 15amp battery on there so I'll probably get 45 miles of range instead of 25-30 they claim on their website. So if my bike can do 90% of what this bike can do(with longer range). Other than it being obviously nicer, nicer display, torque sensor, paint, slightly faster etc. Is it worth just over 3 times what my bike is worth? Is it 3 times nicer? The problem with these monikers of "Purpose built" "built specifically for X". I've been a computer tech for over 25 years and it basically boils down to "Let's fleece more money out of people that don't know any better". The only thing "Purpose built" about this ebike should be, to be an ebike. I'm sure if you looked around you could buy an elevating bike rack somewhere. In fact a 2 min search of google I found one, for $835. So for a little more than this bike is selling for you can get TWO of my bikes(one for you and the wifey) AND the elevating rack. Be careful guys. I have 11,000kms on my bike and all I've had to do is change the rear wheel bearings and re-grease the planetary gears at 7500kms. Still drives great and it's a "budget" bike. In fact it gets driven 30kms every day to work.
This guy gets it!
Great channel. I forgot to tell you those range tests I did were in the city so a lot of stopping and starting. If you're at a camp site you'll probably pick up a few miles of range as starting eats up the battery a bit.@@ElectronRiderTech
I have a Hub Motor with a cadence sensor for my electric bike. Would I be able to upgrade my cadence sensor for a torque sensor, and would it be compatible with the Hub Drive Motor, or should I upgrade to a Mid Drive Motor .
Probably, but depends... which e-bike do you have?
I have the Scootstar Rockstar electric bike.
Should be possible... but I'd have a good e-bike shop look at it first. Bafang has torque sensors that *should* fit in that bottom bracket. It's definitely compatible with the hub motor 😁 I don't think you could put a mid-drive onto that frame, at least not without some serious modification.
Is there a reason why you don’t wear a helmet? Just curious.
It depends on where and what I'm riding. My city has good biking infrastructure and culture, so I feel pretty safe in most areas here. I also have good defensive riding instincts, and professional training in how to fall and roll safely. Even so, I still strap on a helmet whenever I ride higher speed vehicles, or when I venture out to narrower roads in the foothills or ride in other cities. I used to always wear a helmet in my reviews, mostly to set a good example and encourage more people to wear them. I still think it's a good idea for most people, but at the end of the day I support people having the autonomy to choose their own risk level.

I love the bike. Not to crazy about having to say S-M-R-F-S every time. It will be interesting to see the pricing on the second battery.
Where can I get some of those goggles though??

A 60V with 40-50 amp controller would sell tons. Upgraded 4 piston calipers and 203mm rotors maybe. Could even go with a 40ah 60V.
The dual motor version of the A8 is out now
Got this bike brand new out the box look like it has been flipped upside down the battery broke the key lock place to review on it on Amazon that denied the review because I said it was broke out of the box which was the truth they said they'd make it right but yet they will not let me post my ad because I was speaking bad about the FedEx company shipping Amazon just don't you want to be posting no bad reviews even if it is the truth
It would be a good bike in a dense urban area like NYC.
45lbs is not particularly lightweight. Other ebikes that are quite high-spec come in at around 36lbs.
That's true, there are lighter ones out there. But (from my experience) most of those are either very expensive or really compromise on performance to get the weight down 😬
@@ElectronRiderTechIconic Ultralight Step-thru currently stickered at US$1599, and (for eg.) the Velotric T1 is also stickered at US$1599 and is 36lbs and fully specced. I mean....different styles, different target markets and all that I would think, fair enough. My standard (old!) non-electric MTB is 31lbs and that's fine but I wouldn't personally want to be on a 45 or 50lbs+ ebike as lifting it upsteps or into back of a car would be a bit more difficult etc. plus the range is reduced on a heaviner bike (for same size batt). - I do think we are in a phase-change heading towards lighter ebikes, generally. Ride1Up also do a 33lb bike (the Roadster v2) but it's only single-speed and rim brakes but nothing wrong with that if it's the spec people want.
@@brianmcginley7215 great points. I haven't ridden the Velotric T1 yet though I'd love to! Looks like the ST version is only $1099 now too www.velotricbike.com/products/velotric-t1st-ebike

I heard two different noises. The rubbing noise you heard is your brakes. I had the same issue. I turned the bike upside down and loosened the two bolts for the brake just a little bit and then I spun the wheel. I kind of moved the break left and right until the rubbing stopped and then I carefully tightened up both bolts while still maintaining pressure on the break to make sure it wasn't still rubbing. I had to do that a couple of different times on both wheels until I got it perfect but it's doable.
Stay away, worst customer service ever, they don't even bother to reply, I ordered AQ177 Pro Max on 2nd October 2023 and two and a half months later they still haven't delivered anything.
Barrery too big? Not according to my wife! OH, AY! I'm here all week folks. I'll be here because I only have a .5ah charger, so...
your chain looked a little lose and I saw it hit the frame when I heard the ping. I would adjust your derailer tension.
Thanks for the review. I've been looking to upgrade - range wise - from an Ariel Rider, but the big issue for me for this bike as well as others is the lack of service centers to do repairs. If you can't fix things yourself, you end up with a costly, disposable bike, and trying to repair things while it's upside down on the sofa isn't what I want.
Exactly! Depending on where people live it can be really tough to recommend a lot of e-bike brands. I'm lucky where I live, there's two shops in my city that will work on any e-bike no matter where it's from, even custom builds.
Guess you better learn how to fix things😆
Congrats to Sascha from Colorado, he's the lucky winner of the giveaway! Thanks so much to everyone who entered, stay tuned for our next one 😁
Fingers crossed 🤞
I have this bike. I've ridden seventy five miles on it in one charge. Still had two bars of power left. The range test I think is pretty accurate. My brake handles, though like you were saying in. Your video are very flimsy and I fell over on the bike and it's ruined also the left crank bent way out of shape. So I have not been able to ride it since then.
That's a major bummer! Hopefully it won't be too expensive to get it repaired. I believe it uses standard length cranks so that part at least should be cheap.

I've heard, lots of motor issues with the Aniioki 60 Ah Ebike. Also, you can tell a “Throttle boy” right off as soon as you hear them rattling on, and look and what gear the cassette is in (note his was in the smallest). Oof yeah, that's one of the downsides of heavy bikes 😬
" Can a battery be too big" NO not big enougth
Perhaps not too much capacity... but they can definitely be too heavy!
I’d be careful dealing with this company. I bought a Turris in June and it was a complete mess. Rear brakes were faulty and needed to be replaced, controller needed to be replaced TWICE, and the motor was faulty and also (you guessed it) needed to be replaced. Got it all taken care of eventually but it took three months of me nagging them. Basically wasted the whole summer season. They need to seriously reassess how they handle quality control before I’d consider buying anything from them in the future.
Oh man, that sucks! Thanks for sharing your experience. Sometimes it's hard for me to comment on quality control since companies are careful to send me a perfect review unit 😬
I’ve assembled many of these bikes and other Ride1up models for customers. On the whole, I’ve been very pleased with overall quality and excellent customer support. Your issues are not a normal reflection of R1U bikes or service. I’m not an employee of the company.
To clarify. Many Ride1up bikes assembled means over 250. Sorry you had a bad experience. It can happen with any company selling e-bikes
Mine has been great!
Yeah that sucks, I have two Turris bike (1 bought a year ago, other just bought a couple weeks ago) and both are awesome and I didn’t have any issues. I did have to make some adjustments to the front brake on one of them but nothing I had to take to a shop to fix. I’ve got 300 mile on one and 40 on the new one and both are running great.
You're one talented bike rider! All that no-handed, talking-to-the-camera nonsense :P Great review, dude! Seems like a very cool bike.
Hey, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
My answer is a definite no, a battery can’t be big enough in terms of battery capacity and watt hours. There must be much bigger batteries that will take you thousands of miles per charge, which there aren’t yet.
I'll definitely agree with you there! No such thing as "too big" when it comes to capacity and range. They just gotta figure out how to make them more lightweight first 😱
I have an ebike with a miles smaller battery and is really heavy ..Was getting a lot of punctures with the 26x4 tires .. with the weight of the bike you reviewed must be prone to punctures you reckon ?
