Sig P226 Gun Butter Application
I'm trying out a new lubricant, Gun Butter, and the first pistol on the list is my Sig Sauer P226. I typically only use CLP, so this will be a new experience with nothing to compare against -- so if you know of a better lubricant, please let me know.

Doing a slightly-more-than field strip on my Ruger Mk IV because it turns out I hadn't really cleaned it since the last time I took it out. I talk about how to disassemble the bolt, including removing and reinstalling the firing pin and extractor claw.

I never really paid attention to how striker fired pistols work, so I figured that needs to change. Join along as I look at the mechanics of a striker fired pistol (Sig P365) along side a hammer fired pistol (Sig P938).

I started this video and after 10-15 minutes realized my mic was muted, so the initial disassembly is missing unfortunately. I will do another video with this one in a week or so to illustrate what happens with the extra CLP and I'll double check my mic. I opted to remove the RDO during this cleaning as well because of a number of reasons I get into in the video. I hope you enjoy the discussion...

Loading up some .308 cartridges with N150 using Factory Second 168gr bullets. I only loaded up 30 of them, but you can see how long it takes and most of that time is the powder dispenser running.

Doing some case prep work to catch up on my .308 reloading for the next range trip. I've been using 168gr Hornady ELD Match projectiles with 42gr of Varget, but lately I've been testing some cheaper loads based on 168gr Factory Second projectiles with 42gr of N150. The jury is still out, but I think it could be great. The Factory Second projectiles shot a 0.5" group (5 shots) at 100 yards using...

I was playing some Ghost Recon and thinking about my last video when I realized there may be a simpler way to install the striker assembly and slide cover plate. It's still not ideal, but at least another option that does work and maybe puts less stress on the plastic tab.

Doing a quick field strip of my P365 to clean up the pocket lint and lubricate it. This is my pistol of choice for concealed carry because it's readily available and inexpensive to replace. Update: added another video describing a different way to install the striker assembly back into the slide here: ua-cam.com/video/sVE4lD3xGsY/v-deo.html

In my previous video, I found some unusual wear on the barrel of my P938. In this video, I compare that wear to another barrel that was used in the P938 (original, unthreaded barrel) and to a few other Sig barrels from my P365 (similar size to the P938) and my P226 (also switched to a threaded barrel).

Ended up at the range solo this morning, so I took the chance to make an impromptu video with the PSA Rock 5.7 pistol using the Ecco Machine Caracal suppressor. Sorry about the quality at the range I was using my phone propped up against the frame for the table. Don't judge me by my group at 7 yards, haha. To be fair, this is "good enough" for self defense, but I would prefer to do better of co...

      @guntimetherapy I'm pretty sure in 2005 they stopped Sig Arms and all pistol were Sig Sauer. The 229 the prefix on the serial number gives ya the date, and inside the grip panels you should see a date. The SRT is less than $50 and you'll have the short reset trigger, makes a huge difference.

      @jimchambers7548, this pistol came in the DAK configuration, so I replaced most of the internals and added the SRT kit while I was at it. Seems like it's probably not as old as I thought though, thanks for the tip there. I'll pull out the original grips and see what they say.

      @guntimetherapy on the bottom of my factory mags have same date. Don't know if it helps but on mine the mags and grips have 2-95

      @@jimchambers7548, this is where I got the early 90s date from. The magazine that came with it is marked for Law Enforcement only and has a date of 9-14-94. It says "SIGARMS INC" and not Sig Sauer like the slide though. I'm pretty sure the gun shop was mixing and matching magazines (they had tubs of these trade-ins), so I shouldn't put too much faith in that date.

    Where did you acquire the threaded barrel?

    • @guntimetherapy
      @guntimetherapy 6 днів тому

      alleghenyarms.com/product/beretta-81-84-threaded-barrel-380acp-nickel/ Looks like they're out of stock, but I assume more will show up at some point. I could only find one in nickel which is why I opted for a nickel trigger and stainless screws on the grips. The balance worked out, though, I think.

    Do you have a dissembling video??

    • @guntimetherapy
      @guntimetherapy 14 днів тому

      I don't. I have taken this one apart fully and reassembled it twice, but I didn't grab a video of the disassembly. One thing to look for are the roll pins in the slide that retain the firing pin -- mine at least had a roll pin inside of another roll pin and I initially only removed the center pin. I do plan to make full disassembly videos as well, but I'm not sure when it'll happen.

      I've been using Simple Green. I have my frame and slide off getting cerakoted because it was fairly damaged in a few places where I needed to clean it up with files and sandpaper. We'll see how it all goes back together -- the trigger spring was a nice challenge the last time. It's fun to shoot though, I think you'll enjoy it!
