    I would remove the mower deck as well. With that amount of snow you could get stuck!

      I've tried that once but I found that the extra weight from the deck allows better steerage.

    FLUID FILL YOUR TIRES AND PUSH THE SNOW TO THE STREET!!!!!!

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 10 місяців тому

      The city prohibits dumping snow onto the streets and each property owner must clear their sidewalks. Fluid filling these small tires doesn't make much of a difference, I have a milk crate on the hitch filled with granite rocks.

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 9 місяців тому

      Actually I was being hung up by the plow itself. The plow would ride up over the snow and I can't lift it enough to clear the ridge of snow beneath it. I leave the deck on, I find it just heavy enough to allow better steering.

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 2 роки тому

      It does have chains on it! My snow blower wouldn't start, otherwise I'd use the tractor just for clean up work.

  • @jjbackwoods6700
    @jjbackwoods6700 2 роки тому

    No substitute for chains! Huge difference with some weight added also, Can’t tell if that’s a ballast box on rear or not, but I’d remove deck too.. more snow coming - have fun!

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 2 роки тому

      The chains are a must, I'd never plow without them. ! The milk crate in the back is filled with about 200 lbs of granite stones. I removed the deck the 1st winter but found the weight of the deck helped a lot with steering.

    Nice video! Colors look amazing as well. I assume you are using some version of GoPro? For the first time I had problems that appear similar to what you are having with our last storm. The depth of snow (about 24”) and the type of snow (fairly wet and packed) seemed to cause the plow blade to ride up on the snow a bit leaving 4-6” of snow behind. I would then be stuck (that I could get out of but would have to rock back and forth a bit). Part way through the snow clearing I decided to switch to my snow blower which really excelled in that type of snow. I am using “rubber” chains. Straps of old tires between chains for use on exposed aggregate driveways. They work extremely well but since I haven’t used conventional chains I can’t say wether they are better or worse. Love seeing videos of others using their XT-1 clearing snow so thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    About to use the plow attachment and chains for the first time this year. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Plus I plan to keep the deck on. Thanks.

    • @CapeAnnImages

      With the mowing deck in place it's important to keep the grass chute up. I drilled a small hole that accepts the hook of a mini bungee cord then attach the other end of the cord to the seat bracket. (You can see it at 3:37) I later mounted a mini wall hook into the hole in the grass chute making it easier to hook the bungee cord from the seat. In deep snow I push with the plow up then back up and lower the blade to clean up.

  • @lmsubman243

    Thought you had to drop the grass cutting blade to use the snow blade?? I ask...

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 3 роки тому

      The older lawn tractors do in order to mount the blade. I could take it off but I found the extra weight helps with traction.

      As I mentioned in the description it was a video test using a Kindle Fire tablet. Evidently the camera focused on the storm door screen and didn't adjust when I moved it outside. The music ended because part of the test was to hear how the actual audio worked.

    How do you rotate your blade without getting off the tractor?

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 3 роки тому

      There's a lever with a 3 notch position and a very tight spring locks it in place. I removed the spring and replaced with a bungee cord then ran Romex wire from the lever up the handle. I pull on the wire when the blade is down and turn left or right then release the wire and it locks into that position. At 5:14 of this video is a quick look at it....ua-cam.com/video/1IaR4NlkkGI/v-deo.html

    • @lumpyg63ipod
      @lumpyg63ipod 3 роки тому

      @@CapeAnnImages I tried putting a bike brake cable and lever attached to that lever. When I first installed it it in the summer it worked fine. Pulled just enough to let plow rotate and when released it latched the blade in position. Once winter came I guess the cold made changes to the length of the cable and if adjusted to release the blade it would not let the lever back fully and under heavy load the plow would rotate as it was not fully locked. Going to look for a bike lever with more travel to see if I can make that work.

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 3 роки тому

      @@lumpyg63ipod The key for me was the spring on the lever. It had way too much tension and to pull it back far enough I had to use both hands pulling the cable(Romex). That's why I unhooked it and replaced it with a bungee cord. Perhaps give that a try.

    • @lumpyg63ipod
      @lumpyg63ipod 3 роки тому

      @@CapeAnnImages I hear you! Moving that lever by hand the way it is supposed to be done from the factory is very difficult. They came out with a new plow about a year ago that is almost the same price as what I paid for mine that easily rotates itself with some levers on the handle. Figures!! That being said I still love my CC tractor and plow.

    • @CapeAnnImages
      @CapeAnnImages 3 роки тому

      @@lumpyg63ipod That plow with the angle crank has been out for years now. The one I got is about 1/2 the price. I paid about $200.00 for mine.

      I greet him every morning. I trained him to keep other gulls off the deck. They are territorial and defend their source of food. Before this at daybreak there would be dozens of of gulls and all the tables would be covered with poop! It would take about 3 people over an hour to clean up the mess . Now only the rail gets messed up. He only allows his mate "Gertrude" to join him most times.

    I've encountered a few of those intersections, where the lights are so close together.....and you happen to be stopped at the 1st ( and maybe your sun visor is down......or your roof blocks your view of it....).....that soon you find yourself actually focused more on the light directly ahead. When THAT light turns green.......and you go.......realizing too late, that you've actually just run the light you were at.
