Musky Town | That Moment
Переглядів 2442 роки тому
That moment when we revive and release them. It's special.
Is the hook split ringed off the back of the shank?
Nice bug
Thank you for posting this remarkable video. It has taught me more about stacking, packing and trimming deer hair than I have learned in any book and any other videos on the topic. Well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video, I will tie this patern for sure! John you said you like the airflo sniper fly line 425gr. Do you run it with a 10 or a 11wt?
That’s usually on a 10, but really depends on the rod.
Nice video! I should have seen this serie before to help my tying! What fly line is the most effective to run this fly? Floating or sinking? And what sinking rate?
Thanks for the kind words! It fishes best on intermediate and linking lines.
I have another question for this video, which size for the bumbell eyes? Thanks again!
Awesome presentation!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Like you said, ricky ties fast (especially in the middle section ) Wonderfully, by the way. I will give it a try this spring. Lots of Yellow Perch up here.
Glad you enjoyed it! Please do, will look forward to hearing how those work for you!
Great looking fly thanks for sharing your tips and tricks with us.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Paul!
Do you make your own brushes? And should they be different size brushes like a 1 and 2 inch so as not to do to much trimming and waste material. Thank you.
Yes, we make our own tapered brushes, but you can also buy some great pre-made, tapered ones in different sizes. Tony at Nightmare Musky Flies will take good care of you.
I make my own also. what size are your? I'm new to tying big predator flies. I ty trout flies but there is not a whole lot of trout fishing in Texas. we do have large and small mouth bass, walleye, gar, etc. can you tell me some good flies to ty?
Such knowledge, goodspeed is the goat of musky on the fly.
I was searching for months for this video. Thanks for the content.
Thanks Matthew, appreciate the kind words!
Would there be an advantage to using belly hair for the last tie over using full length bucktail.
You could make a case for belly hair to finish Buford heads based on color availability and saved trimming time with the shorter fibers, but belly hair fibers are often too short for our desired profile and too hollow for our preferred density. We recommend using the shorter, hollow fibers near the back/base of the tail when finishing this pattern.
@@MuskyTown thanks for the reply. Was just curious as to why you used full length over belly hair. That makes perfect sense.
@@cotypihlaja576 of course, happy to help. Ah yes, those hairs were from the back/base of the tail...hollow but not overly so and with right length for our desired profile.
@@MuskyTown okay. Loved the tying series. I’ve been messing around with tying some castable fly’s for conventional tackle. Always fun to watch in depth videos like these.
Fantastic tying Pat! Huge fan of his and have been studying stacking hair now for a month or so. The process can be extremely frustrating but unbelievably satisfying all at the same time. Pat's creations are truly inspirational!
Thanks Justin, glad to hear that you’re enjoying the series! If we can ever help you work through anything, please feel free to reach out any time.
Amazing!! Thank you for sharing your ridiculous skill!!
Pat’s a wizard for sure. Thanks for the great feedback!
One of these days I'll actually have the day off to join in on the live tie!
Thanks Dan, we'll look forward to schedules lining up!
I really enjoy these tying videos. Thanks for continuing to provide them. Great stuff.
Glad you're enjoying them, thanks for the positive feedback!
What hair stacker do you have? Im looking for a larger size.
We recommend this one: muskytown.com/products/loon-zippy-hair-stacker-large
Where are you getting your bleached deer belly hair? Are they available on muskytown??
Hey there, Ronnie. Thanks for reaching out. We do offer select belly hair, and just ordered more white. A full list of color options can be found here: muskytown.com/products/select-belly-hair
Awesome episode, very informative
Happy you enjoyed it, thank you!
Good content, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Geoff!
Absolutely awesome episode! Thank you ti everyone involved!
Thank you, Dan! We’ve had so much fun recording these, and more episodes are already in the works!
That might just be the best episode yet. It would be really fun to take a tying class from him. I was hoping he’d talk more about the teaser. What it is, how it’s made and attached and why he uses them.
Thanks for your feedback! Agreed, definitely one of our favorite (if not our favorite) episodes season! His teaser concept is relatively new (came about last fall if memory serves), but the purpose is to emulate a Musky baitfish chasing a smaller baitfish. It appears to be made of mylar tubing with some form of adhesive (likely Marine goop), but we'd be happy to see if Joe is ready to share more.
@@MuskyTown I’d be really interested in learning more about that teaser.
I am in need of a pair of hackle pliers !! Soon I will make a order on musky town !!
Thanks, Ronnie! We appreciate your support!
Thanks fellas!
Thanks, Jason! Please don't hesitate with any other feedback or requests.

👍
👊 🤙
So many helpful tips in one video! Love the series
Thanks, Thomas! Happy to hear you're enjoying the series!
@@MuskyTown What size of a swivel would you use between split rings? I really liked that setup.
Straight from Marlon, "mix it up to adjust length but trust anything 60lb and up." Adding to that, terminal tackle is a spot where the investment is usually worth it, so go with a premium swivel in that 60 to 80 lb+ range.
@@MuskyTown thank you!
Looks awesome but I would ove to see some action video of it swimming and hook size + attachment for the fly rod. As a European fly fisher for pike (which grow also above 53” here) I mainly use #9-10 so I may want to downsize your pattern to our standards. Thanks for the vid! 🎣
Thanks, Dirk. Great feedback! We've already got quite a bit more in the works with our Let's Talk Fly Fishing series that sounds like exactly what you're looking for. You can definitely downsize the 747 with either shorter materials or as a 2-section articulated Buford. For hooks on this shanked version, we really like the Kona BGH in 6/0 and 5/0. You could also go with trebles in the 1/0 (rear) and 2/0 or 3/0 (front) size range depending on proportions/preference. In the meantime, for terminal connections… loop to loop connections are simplest. Perfection loops are a staple. If you prefer otherwise there, you can go with a nail knot from your fly line to leader. At the end of your leader, we recommend a large loop to help with quick fly changes (where we leave the bite guard rigged to the fly with a perfection loop on the leader side and either a perfection or nonslip loop to the fly). There are a bunch of different options here, but hope that's a helpful place to start. Fish on!
Keep em coming!!
Thanks, Jason! You got it!
Good lookin fly!
Thanks, Austin! Definitely one that belongs in every musky angler's box!
Very thorough video and explanation. You should consider having more close up view to be able to better show tying techniques.
Thanks, CG. We appreciate your feedback and would be happy to include those adjustments in the future.
Great video. Full of awesome insight and information.
Thanks, Jason! Happy to hear you're enjoying the series!
Great info, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Incredibly excited for this series. The February Line-up looks like it’ll be a great group and there’s plenty of phenomenal information here available. I’m pumped to see what directions this could go and what it’ll develop into!
Happy to hear you've been enjoying it! It's been a blast making these, and we have quite a bit more in the works!
