I really enjoyed this discussion on the social impact of co-op housing. As I was watching, I know panelist Kathryn and Yuri talked a lot about their direct experience as co-op members. However, I was curious to know if Tiffany has ever been a member of a housing co-op or if she has stayed in a community where a co-op(s) has had a big impact. Ultimately, what personal experiences outside her professional career has lead her to become a believer/ advocate for the co-op housing model?
Great video, thank you all for doing this!!! Looking forward to learning and doing more.
You are not indigenous stop taking their rights it should be H.I.P. (hire indigenous people) to honor the promise Justin made to Gordon Downey not BIPOC ( black first then indigenous people of Canada if there is anything left)
Why no black lives matter protests in China, India, middle east or any non white countries? Please explain!
Trapped in an old way of thinking, You can 3-D print a house for $10,000 put solar panels on it have geothermal energy for heating and have it profitable enough to give everyone in the co-opt a check every month instead of a bill after paying the debt.

For many years I worked in the Housing & Community Development at Fannie Mae. One of my responsibilities was to work with the Institute for Community Economics and other groups promoting the creation and expansion of community land trusts. One strategy I advanced was to create city-wide or community-wide CLTs using a scattered-site strategy. The marketing group at Fannie Mae decided not to put any funds behind this initiative because they did not believe the amount of business to be generated justified the development and promotional expenses. So, the blueprint sat on the shelf. I eventually retired but still continue to believe in the strategy. If anyone would like to learn more, contact me at edod08034@comcast.net. I am happy to send you a copy of the paper I wrote on the initiative. Edward J. Dodson
and when you grow old and sick ,certain religion, lesbians, polically correct baby makers, bigots etc. band together to threaten a member and her caregiver to be ousted to a care home, in living in a coop I've had to endure discrimination , hateful neighbours, against me and my caregiver lately in 2019, Neighbours can't mind their own business and leave me and my caregiver alone, I helped build this place in the 80s, it was nice and coop ideals were fine then over the years its become full of hate. Originally this coop was intended to give rental security to poorer peeople its now changed to people who can pay market value rent, boards are always made up of people who lack any training in this area..coop living is for the birds
That's wild, but if that hapened to you, even without knowing the full detailed story and what the other's complaints were...I'm sorry. I am saddened to hear you went through that. I've lived in a co-op almost my whole life. Although it may be one of the better ones considering the awards it's run, we've had problems and disfunctions all the same. And we continue to, while I am on the board now too. It can't be understated that the people make the co-op, but by that same token the principles should be compassionately followed above all else. Is that not the part and parcel of co-operative living: to support, learn and grow alongside each other regardless our differences? What happened to sounds a great shame, however it happened, but it's my sincere wish you've found a community that respects you and has your back proper now.
Couldn't Have started this without you Ladies either!!
