241214 #12 VJ Big Apple IV Greg and Zoey at Teralba. At the end of the 2nd lap, we round the bottom mark with the 13ft skiff of Don and Graeme just in front of us, and we both sail on port tack towards Marmong Point as the moderate southerly begins to build a little.

This looks like a two man canoe. What type of boat is this?
Robert the boat is a VJ which is short for Vaucluse Junior, designed in the Great Depression in 1931 in Vaucluse at Sydney Australia, the only boat of its type then to teach children and teenagers to sail and race. I used to race VJ's out of BYRA at the base of Pittwater in the 60's and last time I checked the VJ fleet has been disbanded. In fact there is not more than a trace of those little sweethearts. Guess they couldn't be adapted with foils so they got dropped. I dunno, anyone?

As the West Australian VJ State Champion in 1954 (The same year when the National Championship was sponsored by our Club on the Swan River and which was won by fellow club member Lance Rock. I broke a mast when competing and lost my chance of winning). This internet clip showed some impressive VJ's competing. Are VJ's still competing in 2023?. I would love to see them racing again. Hi Ross, this was filmed using a GoPro Hero 7 Black camera, just checked the manual and yes Hero 7 Bk has GPS enabled, and we can access speed and other data through the GoPro app. Will look into it soon. Cheers, Greg
