😅 Not completely. It's all back to as it was now.
Hope all is well
Cheers for asking. For the most part, yes. Hopefully back in to it in January. 👍 Have a good Christmas!
Nice video. What make of cruise control is that for the Abarth?
Search for 'Precision Cruise Control for Fiat 500', on Google. 2 websites (same company) sell the kits.
💖
You ok DW? Did you lose the unit?
Cheers for checking in Andy. Rather long story, to be honest. Good news is, still have the unit. Might get back in to it in the New Year. I haven't checked on your build. Will have to jump back on YT.
@@datbuildI’ve just had a month off mine. Has to be done sometimes what with life stuff and all that jazz. Glad I’ve still got the unit, looking forward to an update in the new year. :)
Cheers. Yeah, had a bit of mostly off-line time to myself. New car and continuing the build in 2025. 👍
One question, i have also uses these type of suspensions and my rims size 8x18 and tyre touches each other. So no space in between... How worked that for you out?
I'm on factory sized wheels and tyres. So no real clearance issues, once i wound up the suspension a bit.
@datbuild oh I see,do you still ride this suspensions? Aren't they too hard for longer journeys?
Still presently on the car. Wont be staying on there. Did them to see what coilovers were like, and to see what ride height I was happy to live with; long term. Will be going back to conventional suspension in the future. The roads where I live do not work well with the very stiff ride. On smooth ground, they're nice. On the roads I daily, not so much.
Every video skips how to fasten to the top with the black rubber piece
Which piece? Do you mean securing the strut to the vehicle?
Why is engine pixelated out. Did it not want to be recognised???🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha. I filmed the intro and outro after I had done more work. Was for a reveal in a later episode. Hence the pixels. Weirdly the editing revealed it for a split second, at one point.
Also looking at no ground connection. Odd.
Yeah. Still manages to work though. 😅
Not a space frame by any stretch of the imagination!
Yeah. Didn't know what to call it. No one's ever called me out until now. 😅
@@datbuild 'Tube Frame' usually fits the bill nicely!
Will change my terminology to that, moving forward. 👍
@@datbuild You, sir, are a true gentleman! It is a fascinating and enlightening experiment to build model frames from brazing rod and soft solder, or drinking straws and hot melt glue. Stiffness is all about triangles and tetrahedra in a spaceframe; remove just one element and the model transforms from absurdly rigid to floppy as warm toffee... A true spaceframe has to satisfy at the very least the following criteria: All tubes must be straight. All loads must be fed into a node. No tubes can be loaded in bending. No apertures in the frame can have more than three sides unless torsion boxes are used. Good luck with the impressive build, and Google the gull-wing Mercedes 300SL, the Maserati Tipo 61 'birdcage', and British Supermarine Spitfire engine mount for inspiration. The last of these is truly mindblowing, and might change your outlook on frame building for life! Cheers, Carl.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Honestly never looked in to the full on construction of a frame at all. Definitely quite a bit of art, and workmanship to get right. The Gullwing and Tipo I have watched a lot of videos on. Absolutely love those cars. But was mostly the design and engine I was always fixated on. Doing this build certainly has peaked my interested for building frames. (Doubt, I'll ever do this again though.) Thanks for the kind words, and appreciate you watching the videos and commenting.
i whant one but i am affraid my knee gonna hit the stick, the stick is very low.
Can place it in a different spot. Even up top.
@@datbuild hi ty for your tip:)i gonna see if i can find another spot for it,but it should be easy to get to so I don't turn the steering wheel by accident evry time i use it,i had it in my old car and miss it,its so relaxing, sry for my bad english.
Your English is fine. The other spot I had in mind up the top; near the gauge cluster is also a good spot. (In my opinion) A lot of my Mercedes have the cruise stalk in that spot.
@@datbuild i dont know what gauge cluster is:)is it over the light stalk?
The gauge cluster, is the car speed, tachometer read out. Pause on this portion of the video where I hold the stalk. 01:09
That "sigh" I'm so sorry - got me snikkering. Well done mate. Keep it u - wonder why you dont have more subs.
Haha. Glad there's other enjoying my stupid humour. 😅
Well done, are you going to keep the drum brakes on this? There is a kit out there where you convert to discs.
No. Not keeping the factory Beetle brake system long term. Just to get it engineered initially.
Great to see a craftsman at work 🏆Thoroughly enjoyed the build. 👍
Appreciate it.
Build is coming along great, everything looks tidy and proper! Glad to see that the washer idea worked out, and thanks heaps for the shout out!!! Glad to be of help! Cheers!
Cheers Chris. Yeah, the washer idea was tops. Walked in, opened draw, voilà! Just wished I'd remembered a final picture. 😅
G'day nice video mate 👍
Cheers Murphy. 😁
Nice solution
Cheers.
for that fuel line you can weld a thin flat washer over the hole with a smaller I.D. that you can use a grommet that fits around the fuel line and the washer I.D.
That's a really good idea. Little annoying as I've done all the painting. But that is by far the best way for a good result.
@datbuild ah, thanks mate! Its an easy enough of a fix and only a small bit of touch-up . You should be good!
Yep. Little bit of grinding around the lip, and should be solid. Will look at that tomorrow.
Just editing my latest one DW. Looking forward to watching this one 😁👌
Ahh nice! Can't wait to see the finished result.
G'day nice work mate 👍
Cheers Murphy. Getting there.
The last line "Dont get an SUV, get a station wagon they are much cooler" is the exact reason i test drove a legnum today, im currently daily driving a boring barra SZ territory and working on my 6A powered mirage steet/track car haha. I really want the legnum they are such a cool car! I should buy that damn thing, Mikes is actually really nice example now too!
The Legnum is a great all-rounder. Does lack some creature comforts, but it's still a way nicer car to drive, and loom back at! If you can, I highly recommend.
Do you still have the bug? I’m in a similar position with the boost surging. I like that intercooler. Where did you get it?
Yep, still have it. Just been swamped with my main project on the channel. The surging was the return pipe from the boost supply to the boost feed. Common issue. Split right through it. The IC was bought from the states, company called Tyrol Sport.
Great progress DW. Well done bud! 👏😎
Cheers Andy. Waiting for an update from yours now. 😅
@@datbuildOn it! Had some eBay issues with a dodgy seller of that compressor. Turned out to be faulty. Got a new now but has taken a few days to sort it all out. 😭😄
That sucks. At least buying through eBay, you have a bit of recourse. Still no fun to deal with however.
Looking fresh! Frame looks great mounted
Cheers. Yeah, I love the 'buggy' look.
@@datbuildImagine putting a Honda Goldwing flat 6 in it with a turbo or supercharger... ??

hi building one right now any chance you could put me in contact with the guy that built the unit cheers g
Unfortunately, I don't have his details, sorry. Was literally a bump in to at the car show. Was nice enough to let me film/ interview.
Mate is the car still on the ramps?
Nope. Just had no time to do any videos for it lately. On a time crunch with my primary project presently. Taking all my spare time and resources.
I like it! Love the yellow brake calipers. Grey is very cool. Wish we could get 595 's here in the US.
Re-tap, Helicoil, or tynesert?
I've had a suggestion from a colleague about being able to retap, which I'll try out first. Fingers crossed. Helicoil or insert is more complicated than it seems due to angle and tight space for drill.
So, what is your opinion on the shaft play in the transmission? Share your thoughts if you have any insight.
There is what they call a gland nut that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft. This gland nut has a needle bearing in the center that supports the clutch end of the input shaft.
Thank you for this insight.
Well done DW… Progress has been made 👊 How’s the steering box? Any play? Mine’s got a bit and I’ve adjusted it too, might need a new one. More expense… hoorah 🥳 😭
Cheers Andy. I think the steering box is ok. I believe majority of the slop in the steering, was from the dead ball joints. Will find out in the near future. But box off the car, it feels tight in its movements.
That’s good news 👍
The wind has been crazy lately
Absolutely. I'm surprised more damage hasn't been caused.
